Casual Chic Outfit Basics | The Statement Necklace

This week’s casual chic outfit basic is a no-brainer and something you probably already have – a statement necklace.

If I’m being honest, this is a trend that took me awhile to get on the bandwagon with.  Scarves, yes.  Statement necklaces, hmm…

I always felt over embellished when I wore one, somewhat like a tacky Christmas tree.  But then I discovered that simplicity is key.  Keep the rest of your look super simple and let the necklace do what it does best – make a statement.

Here are some really simple looks I love, made special by the addition of a stunning statement necklace.

And I absolutely ADORE this outfit combo for spring and summer!

Even though it took me awhile to warm up to the trend, I have worn it a few times.

My favorite statement necklace of all time is my Kendra Scott ‘Rayne’.  It goes with every single thing in my closet.

Of course, I wore it when I met Kendra, who is sweetest, most down to earth person ever!

photo 5-1_edit I would love to have it in a few more colors for summer, like this pretty teal.

Here’s a short, affordable option with some fun colors.

It also comes in coral and pink.

This one would dress up a basic t-shirt or tank top for summer.

And white would go with just about anything.

  1. I was like you, I thought they were just a little too much for me at first but now I have sooo many. lol! I just pair it with a simpler out so its not tacky

  2. I love statement necklaces and own a lot of them. The shorter ones can be difficult to work into your wardrobe if the neckline of your shirt isn’t ‘just right’. I love your long pendant necklace. Those are much easier to wear.

  3. I love them too especially since I tend to be a t-shirt girl. Honestly, I don’t spend much on them. They have so many pretty ones at Versona that are inexpensive and it’s a trendy item so cheap is good for me. 🙂

  4. I was on the fence at first too – I thought they looked like dress up, costume jewelry. I never did buy a bubble necklace and am glad now I didn’t, considering how short-lived that trend was. I really like the selection at Bauble Bar.

Also, I ended up taking the Loft white jeans back and exchanging them for a size smaller. They stretch out! They started out the perfect size, but then an hour later they were baggy. You were right – one size down was the way to go. 😀

  5. I absolutely adore that last necklace! The colors and sparkle are just amazing! Jewelry does such a great job of dressing up an outfit and your beautiful long necklace goes with everything!

  6. Statement necklaces have been one of my favorite trends as of late. I was a little hesitant to wear them at first, too, but now I’m hooked. Every time I wear one I get compliments, which is super nice. 🙂

    xo Always, Abby

  7. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has felt that way about this trend! I’m still haven’t warmed up to it myself, but it looks fabulous on you! Have a great weekend!

  8. I love statement necklaces, but have yet to wear the shorter, bib style. I’m just not sure I’d wear one enough to invest in a nice piece. I did see a few at Target the other day I liked. I may have to get one and just try it with different outfits. I love my long statement necklaces though. They are my favorite pieces.

  9. Gotta love a great statement necklace! I’m loving the look of large curb chain necklaces. I tend to wear them with crew style shirts or looser blouses.

  10. I just saw this t-shirt statement necklace, have yet to try it out, need to soon. Love that outfit you put together, it’s perfect for spring/summer!

  11. I am with you on the statement necklaces. I felt way too overly embellished wearing them. I have a couple and still don’t feel comfortable wearing them. Some of them I think they look like hard candies on a string. But I like them on other people, just not on me.

  12. I’m still holding back on the statement necklaces, although I love the “Rayne” necklace! I could definitely go with that! I’m still not brave enough for bubble necklaces.

  13. I love statement necklaces Alison and my post on Monday is how to pair them with a white tee. I think simplicity is the key too. That Rayne necklace is gorgeous!! You are simply stunning. There is nothing you can’t look great in(: Happy weekend! Susan

  14. You’re exactly right about how to wear one. I, too, initially thought they were too much, but learned the same lesson you’re teaching.

  15. I love the statement necklace, but my favorite rendition are a bunch that made myself, stacked together… I have been doing this well before this trend, but not often on the blog.. I do think this trends suits everyone, and can be easily personalized.
    Have wonderful day!

  16. I’m so glad to see this post, because I am terrible at statement necklaces! I always wish I had more (I have maybe one or two), but most of my jewelry ends up being so basic.

  17. I love them all! I don’t wear mine that often as like you say sometimes its just a bit too much especially when just doing the school run but with a simple Tee, jeans & some heels they look can look amazing! Ax

  18. What a great round-up of necklaces! I admit that I own a couple of them, but feel too timid to wear them!! This post was a good reminder that it’s time to rock those things 😉
