Daily Style Diary | Entry Five

Did you have a good Valentine’s weekend?  Mine was nice.  We spent most of it relaxing and then my sisters and I had a birthday party for my mom yesterday.  We went for mani/pedi’s together afterward.  It was a much needed break!  I have to honestly say that last week was one of the busiest I’ve had in a long time.  Too busy.  The kind of busy that sucks the joy out of everyday life.  The kind of busy that prompted me to buy this book.  I just have to find the time to read it.  Here’s to a calmer, less hectic week ahead!

I turned to Pinterest for a lot of inspiration for last week’s outfits.  When life gets really busy, it’s nice to have some formulas on the style board to turn to for quick dressing. If you’re following along on Instagram, you already get these looks live.  Mondays are a recap post with links to what I’m wearing.

P.S.  If you missed it yesterday, I finally twisted Craig’s arm enough to let me style him for the blog!  Check it out HERE.  🙂

Monday

I took my dad for his carpal tunnel surgery on this day.  Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.  Everything went great and he’s on the mend now.  If you saw Friday’s post, then you know that this look was a recreation of an inspiration outfit I found on Pinterest.

Tuesday

Casual sweatshirt day.  This was comfortable and felt totally put together at the same time.  My kind of outfit.

021414-lace-sweatshirt-pink-jeans [Sweatshirt:  Loft – Sold Out (Similar)/Jeans:  Loft/Tank:  Mossimo/Boots:  Similar]

I’ve gotten lots of questions on the layering tanks that I wear.  I’ve been wearing these for years, just the right length.

Wednesday

This was my laundry and cleaning day so I *almost* didn’t get changed out of my yoga pants.  But I had to run errands in the late afternoon and evening so I decided to make a little effort.  Plus Craig got back from a business trip that evening, so I wanted to look decent.  🙂

Mint jeans make me think that spring isn’t too far away.  Here’s an amazing deal on this pair of Vigoss.

Thursday

College visit day!  We took a road trip to take Devon for a recruiting visit (more on that at the end of this post).  It was a long but fun day with lots of meetings and walking, so I dressed for comfort in my leopard flats.

021414-boyfriend-cardigan-striped-scarf [Sweater/Striped Shirt:  Similar/Jeans/Scarf:  Similar/Flats/Watch]

I live in my leopard flats when the weather is nice enough to wear them.  My pair is no longer available but here are some other great options and both are ON SALE!

You’ve probably already noticed that I wear one of my striped shirts at least weekly. They just work so well with everything – leopard, polka dots, floral…

Friday

It’s not easy being green, especially on Valentine’s Day!  Craig came home early from work to take me to lunch, then we both went to Ava’s classroom party.

Aren’t these popovers so cute for spring?  They come in eight different colors and at this price, I want them ALL!

 [Merona Popover in Mahal Green]

I got mine in my regular size (small) but definitely could have sized up to a medium.  They run a little on the small side.

The bright colored popovers are the perfect backdrop for the Kendra Scott “Rayne” necklace.  I wear mine with everything.

LIFE LATELY

  • 021414-life-lately Devon’s recruiting visit went great.  We really liked the school and coaches.  It’s a very small private university about three hours from home.  He has a big decision to make now, whether he wants the commitment of playing football in college or not.  We have two more visits planned (at large schools, not for football), then he will make his decision.
  • New favorite road trip snack!  These dill pickle sunflower seeds are completely addicting.  Craig said I looked like Ava’s hamster stuffing them in my mouth.  🙂
  • We witnessed Ava falling off her horse for the first time while jumping.  His hoof brushed her face but otherwise, she was fine.  She’s taken plenty of “dirt baths” (as her trainer calls them), but Craig and I had never actually seen one.   We were both a little shaken up.  It’s an inherently dangerous sport so we try not to think about it.
  • Craig made chocolate fondue for the girls and me for a Valentine’s Day treat.  YUM!

Happy Monday!  Hope your week is off to a great start.

  • I love Monday’s Outfit, I have the same scarf 🙂 You always look amazing !!!

  • LOVE your outfit with the green popover! Soooo pretty! And that must have been terrifying seeing Ava fall. So glad she’s okay!

  • You had a busy weekend mine was just the opposite, did I mention how beautiful your family is I love when you post about them.

  • Your daughters are so precious! I love seeing their pictures. So glad Ava is ok!

  • So scary when someone takes a tumble when jumping. I know it can make your heart stop dead. It is brilliant that she is doing it though. My niece also takes lessons in the summer. She loves it. I really wish I had the chance when I was young. It’s an expensive sport to get into.

I love that green outfit and the leopard flats.

    bisous

I cannot see what book you bought!
Thank you for all you do!
I have a trouble buying, you make it easy, I’m 54 and don’t want to look like my 26 year old daughter.
    Any recommendations for jeans?

  • I played ETBU when I was in college and have several friends who went there and loved it. Spent plenty of time out there in East Texas 🙂 All your outfits are so cute and casual…just my style!

  • You are the cutest, and I just ADORE all of your outfits. Your style is totally me. I’m so, so, so glad I found your blog through Mix & Match Mama!

I have a post request! I’ve been on the fence about buying some white skinny jeans. I think they are so fun and cute for spring/summer, but I’m nervous about them too. The practical side of me is having a hard time buying some. PLUS, I feel like you have to find the perfect fit for them to be flattering. Maybe some tips and/or brands/stores you recommend would be helpful? And some outfit ideas with white skinnies?

  • I echo the white jeans idea! I tried to find a pair last year but they seemed to show every imperfection in the derriere, unlike other jeans. I am so happy that Ava is okay, that must have been so frightening for you guys.

  • Great outfits. I can imagine how scary it must have been to watch your daughter fall off her horse.

  • Great looks again this week! I will be recreating several of those outfits this week. So glad your Dad’s surgery went well! And Ava is such a doll with her horse! Hope your week is less hectic. I remember those hectic days from just a few short years ago. It’s quieted down a lot for me since the girls graduated! Have a nice week! 🙂

  • Kim Kauffman

You look beautiful in everything, as always! My favorite is the last one. That green is so pretty – will have to check out Target soon! I’m crossing my fingers that my hubby is getting me that Kendra Scott necklace for my birthday this week. He surprised me this weekend and let me go buy a pair of dark wash skinny jeans (citizens of humanity). I hated the $164 price tag but I know from previous experience that they will be worth it and last me forever! Oh and I would also love some white jeans suggestions! I have a hard time finding ones that aren’t too thin. Hope you have a great Monday!

  • I love seeing your daily style on IG. You always look pulled together but so comfy. Glad to hear your dad’s surgery went well, you had a successful college visit and oh my how scary for Ava to fall off the horse! I feel that way about tumbling class. So scary when they take a fall!

  • Love all your outfits, especially the Valentine’s one…casual but very very chic!!!

Dinner and movies for me on V-Day. 🙂 Thursday’s look is my fav! Stripes and boyfriend jeans!

  • Renee

Love the necklace! Do you know if yours is the mother of pearl color? When I went to the link, there are a TON of options! I’d like to get one that will go with everything. Please, can you help? Thank you so much!

    • Hi Renee! Yes, it is the mother of pearl and it goes with everything! You are going to love it. 🙂

  • Great outfits! You look so cute! We have very similar styles. Glad Ava was ok! How scary to witness! I love the Target tops, do they run true to size? I never know… Thanks!

  • You look stunning!! Friday’s look is my favorite! <3

Hi! I too went thru football recruiting w/ my oldest. I am happy to say he decided on a college 3 hrs away & is a freshman. Doesn’t mean I still don’t have tears when he leaves from a visit.
Good luck to your son ( & u & your family) on finding a perfect fit.

  • I love that green blouse. I saw it on your Instagram and thought that is a good color for you. I need to check them out. It looks very J. Crew. That’s scary about your daughter’s spill. Sometimes it’s so hard to be a parent. You want them to experience things, but can’t they wear a big padded bodysuit while they are doing it?

    Tracy @Its Mostly About Fashion

  • As usual, I love your outfits! The mint jeans and your V-day outfit are my faves. I also love hearing more about your family!

  • I love that stripes can be paired with just about any other pattern. You are becoming quite the master of layering! Love the Target tunic and the blush pants – I can’t believe that I have not yet worn mine!! That needs to change soon! Have a great week! Susan

  • Love seeing your Life Lately! Glad Ava is ok and that you made it through a crazy week!

  • I love this post. 🙂 I love seeing what you wore and then getting to read more about why you chose it, where you wore it, etc. It’s hard to find that authenticity in fashion blogs anymore and I miss it! You look totally put together but realistic (no stilettos to do laundry!).

  • Monday and Wednesday are a tie for me…love the bright colors! V-Day fondue = yummy! Finally, yay for family time w/ all your loved ones!

  • Looks like one fashionable week, lady! Hope your dad is feeling better.

    Have a great week!

  • I love this post – so many cute, casual looks! That green popover is on my shopping list:)

I really like the scarf, with the striped shirt and leopard flats. I’m always unsure about how and if I can mix prints. So I like seeing how it can work and ways to do it.
Did you know mahal means love in tagalog (filipino language)? Love that green color.
