Project Runway Inspired Eyes

OK, girls, this was a really fun post for me to create so I hope you enjoy it too. As you know by now, I work from home and don’t get a lot of opportunities to get really glammed up, which I sometimes miss. So when Mary Kay® asked me to create some Project Runway-inspired eye makeup looks, I jumped at the opportunity. Mary Kay® supplied the tools and products to create two ready to wear makeup looks inspired by season 13 of Project Runway. Both of these looks were created by Mary Kay® Global Makeup Artist Luis Casco. My teen daughter is obsessed with Project Runway, so she was more than happy to be my assistant to help photograph and create the looks for this post.

Emerald Smoke Look

Green is one of the hottest shades for fall and I love how it brightens any color eyes!” – Luis Casco

To create this look, I followed these steps provided by Luis and Mary Kay:

1. Apply Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color in Meadow Grass to eyelids as a base. Then apply Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color in Emerald on top. Next brush Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color in Lime to the inner thirds of the yes with the Mary Kay® Smudger Brush to brighten up eyes.

2. With the Mary Kay® Eyeliner in Black, line the top and bottom lash lines and smudge it slightly to create a smoky look.

3. Next apply two coats of Mary Kay® Lash Love Lengthening Mascara.

4. Blend Mary Kay® Cream Blush in Cranberry onto the apples of cheeks using either your fingers or a foundation brush. I’d recommend starting as sheer as possible and then building up to the right intensity.

5. For lips, first line them in Mary Kay® Lip Liner in Cappuccino and then top off with True Dimensions Lipstick in Mystic Plum.

My Take:

This look is really wearable for my every day. I don’t typically wear green eye makeup but I loved how it looked with my brown eyes and have found some new go-to colors. Overall it was a much subtler effect than I thought it would be. The bold cranberry cheeks and lip color were really nice with green.

Graphic Eye Look

There’s nothing cooler than a cat eye right now. Try combining black gel eyeliner with an unexpected shade like blue for a look that’s right on trend.” – Luis Casco

mary-kay-at-play

For the graphic eye look, I did the following:

1. As a base, apply Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color in Moonstone to eyelids. Next brush Mary Kay® Mineral Eye Color in Driftwood to the creases and under the eyes to create depth using the Mary Kay® Eye Crease Brush.

2. In a very thin line, apply Mary Kay® at Play Bold Fluid Eyeliner in Blue My Mind from the upper inner corners to the middle of your eyes. Then apply Mary Kay® Gel Eyeliner in Jet Black from the outer corner in to meet the blue eyeliner.

3. Next apply Mary Kay® Bronzing Powder in Light-Medium to the cheeks as a highlighter for a bronzed look. Use the Medium-Dark bronzer shade around the hairline and under cheekbones to create contour.

4. Apply two coats of Mary Kay® Ultimate Mascara in Black.

5. For lips, apply True Dimensions Lipstick in Pink Cherie and top off with Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in Au Naturel. mary-kay-graphic-eye-2

My Take: This was so much fun for a fantasy look! I’ve always wanted to try a cat eye but haven’t really had the opportunity to wear one. I’d definitely try this look again for a night out or special occasion. The bronzer contouring was my favorite part. It gave my skin such a nice warm glow that still looked natural. The key to wearing a bold eye like this is a subtle lip and this pink was perfect for that!

Both are so beautiful and easy but my fave was the Emerald Smoke Eye look.

  • Suzanne

Hands down the Emerald Smoke eye. It’s much more wearable. Love your style Alison!

  • Danniel Jaye

I LOVE both looks! They look great on you!

  • Sara

I like the emerald smoke eye!

  • They are both great looks, but my favorite on you is the green one. It makes your brown eyes really pop!

  • Kathy

I like the makeup with the green eye shadow. Love that lipstick color too. Thanks.

  • Debbie

I like them both, too, but if I had to choose I would pick the graphic eye look because it really draws attention to your eyes while leaving the rest of your face very natural.

  • Steph Grimes

I love Mary Kay products. I’ve been using them for 10+ years. I like that you tried the cat eye. Perhaps I will give it a go. And play around with greens. Neutral is my go-to, and maybe I need a little more color. So glad you teamed up with MK! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • I loved the first one! It made your brown eyes stand out beautifully. Thanks for the giveaway! I’d love to try some Mary Kay products, too:)

  • Linda Ross

I haven’t used been eye shadow in quite a while but I love the look. Never tried Mary Kay products but I’d love to do so. Great looks!

  • Debbie

Love the touch of blue in the second one! So pretty!

  • Jean

All the makeup was fun! I like the eyes in the emerald look and the lips in the bold cat eye look!

  • Jennifer

I liked the blue liner look. Fun!

  • sydney85

I like the emerald green smoke eye look. Really gorgeous on you.

  • Nancy N

I really (surprisingly) like the green smoky eye- much more subtle than I expected. The blue/black cat eye is fun, but not something I could see ever going for in real life, even on a dress-up not-my-life day.

  • Great looks. I’m unable to replicate them. My eyes are shaped funny and I can’t figure out how to apply eyeshadow and -liner in a good way. I’m glad you can.

  • Love both looks-very fun post!! I always have trouble especially with eye liner so I usually don’t even bother & this is so helpful.

That’s a tough one! I agree the green look more everyday work-a-day. I think it’s actually the cranberry blush and lipstick that so enlivens the look. I really like the second one though, and feel it could be worn with slightly different eye makeup for everyday. The bronzer was especially nice.

  • Gretchen

I love the blue eye. Especially loved the two different blush/bronzer looks.

  • Angela Gibson

I like the Emerald Smoke look best. I have brown eyes, too, and have worn green before. I never like bright blue on my eyes for some reason. It’s a fun look though, depending on where and how you wear it.

  • Debra Schramm

The Emerald Smoke Look is my favorite.

  • Rachel

    Green!

  • Lisa Brown

    the emerald look is gorgeous

My vote is for the emerald look.. super pretty.

  • Mary

Both are super pretty, but if I had to pick one, I think I’d go with the green. I kind of want to go and try that now!

  • Kim in RI

I like them both also, but really love the blue eyeliner and bronzer look! Fun but not overdone!

  • Bebe

I like both looks, but I tend to gravitate toward the eye popping blue eyeliner! Love it!

  • Lisa Dunham

I like the green as well but especially like that lip color! I think the cat eye look would have been better without the blue, it reminds me of the 80’s.

  • I love the cat eye and pop of blue color!! You look fabulous with both looks. xo ~ Megan

  • The Emerald Smoke Look is absolutely gorgeous on you and is my favorite of the two looks.

  • That Graphic Eye Look is awesome! I love the touch of blue on your lids paired with the subdued pink lip color. It would be super fun for a night out.

  • Andrea

My vote goes to the emerald smoky eye…lovely!

  • Ahh I love them! I like the green eyes best! I play with green eyeliner a lot. It’s more subtle than you think it will be for normal wear 🙂

  • Cindy

I like both looks. The Emerald smoke look would be my first choice!

  • I think both looks are very eye-catching (pardon the pun) but the emerald smoky eye is my fav. Would love to see a couple of options on blue eyes. Beautiful!

Alison you always look so pretty!!! I think the first one is my favorite though :). Karen

  • Lauren Hellberg

I love the Emerald Smoke. I don’t wear much makeup, if any, so this one is more realistic for me!

  • Rhoda

Id like to try the cat eye look for fun, but the green may find it’s way into my routine for fall.

  • I absolutely love that emerald smoke look! With the red tones in your hair, it really pops! I might have to try that out myself!

  • Oh Alison these looks are gorgeous! I am just discovering the fabulous new products that Mary Kay carries! I think I am going to place an order and try these fun fall looks!! One question – I have trouble finding the correct place to put the crease shadow – what is the best way to apply shadow in your crease? Thanks! Susan

    • Hi Susan! The key to the crease is lots and lots of blending. I learned this from a makeup artist a few years back. She put it on kind of heavy and then blended for a few minutes with the brush to get that perfect look. Hope that helps!

  • sue

Really pretty looks! I love the colors used for the cat eye look.

  • Cynthia C

I don’t normally wear green eye shadow either, but I think the emerald smoke look would go well with my coloring.
