Spring Break Recap + Daily Style Diary

Hey pretties, it feels like an eternity but I’m finally back!  Spring break week was amazing.  It was low key but just perfect.  We had a lot more of what this family desperately needs – unscheduled time to just “be”.  Here’s a photo recap from our week.

The week started with bad weather, so we stayed in and played many rounds of Uno – a.k.a. the game that never ends.  🙂

On Monday, we had gorgeous weather.  We went to the lake with my parents.  Fished all day but never got a bite.  Oh well, at least we enjoyed the great weather and an outdoor picnic.

Tuesday we took a college visit road trip with Devon.  We made a stop at the university’s equine center.  Ava was smitten with the foals.  They loved her right back.

We went four wheeling, hunted hogs and did a lot of fishing.

It was so peaceful to sit on the porch swing and watch the wildlife visit this pond. 031714-pond

The best part of the weekend?  The girls put away their iPads in favor of fishing!  Miracles do happen. 031714-girls-fishing-dock

Their persistence paid off.  Aubrey caught this nice bass. 031714-aubrey-fish

And Ava caught her first fish too.  She was a little scared of it.  🙂 031714-ava-fish

There were 800+ acres to explore with plenty of cattle, deer and other wildlife.

We drove into the small town nearby for dinner each evening.

Craig had a little too much fun playing “cowboy”.

The owners caught this wild baby hog and brought it to show to the girls.  It was adorable!  Too bad they grow up to be so destructive.

Of course Ava found a horse’s neck to hug on.  🙂 031714-ava-horse All in all the week couldn’t have been any better.  Back to reality this week but we’re all refreshed, recharged and ready to go.

Even though it seems like a lifetime ago, here are the week before last’s Daily Style Diary outfits that were posted on Instagram.

We had an ice storm so the kids got a day off school.  This comfy outfit was perfect for a day at home.

One of my favorite things about spring is wearing my coral trench coat.  I wore this for lunch with a friend.

Barn day!  Aubrey made fun of this outfit.  She said the yoga jacket didn’t go with the rest of it.  Oh well, I was comfortable and kept me warm during Ava’s riding lesson.

Gray and yellow is one of my favorite outfit combos.  This was a good base for my new yellow trench coat.

Yay!  My pink popover arrived from Target.  Of course, I couldn’t wait to wear it.  Boden sent me this adorable floral scarf on the same day – a mailbox match made in heaven.

  1. The grey & Yellow one was my favorite, it looks so good on you!!!
    I Love that little Hog!!
Well, this week we should hit above 0 !!! Is it funny that it was -5 on Saturday, and we were out in flip flops, and tshirts LOL!!

  2. Those are the best type of vacations – spending it with family and “old time” activities with no electronics! I enjoy visiting my family in Michigan during the summers for exactly this reason. I love that trench. The color is fantastic!

  3. what a great relaxing Spring Break. I agree with Ava, I’m a little scared of touching a fish too. When they are in the store, with their heads/eyes attached, just looking at me. A little creepy if you ask me.

  4. Looks like you had a fabulous vacation
I just got back from a week of vacay as well
It’s always so nice to have time away with family
    Happy St. Paddy’s Day

  5. What a fun break! I love all the pictures you posted of your family! We had spring break last week, too. Love that popover top from Target. I tried one on the other day when I was there and really liked it, but want to wait until it goes on sale. Hopefully they still have it then! Have a nice week!

  6. It looks like you had a great week!!Your girls are lovely! My daughter loves animals like your Ava. I think that the kids who adore animals like that have the kindest, most gentle hearts. I can’t wait to see what you ladies have in store for Thursday! Some of my favorite bloggers!! Susan

  7. I laughed when I read that your daughter made fun of your yoga jacket! I think it looked perfect, especially for barn day. So glad you had such a wonderful spring break.

  8. Love the spring break pics! We had spring break last week also. Lots of local families took far away trips, but we were tired from travel basketball season so we also went the relax & refresh route and did some ice skating & swimming in a nearby town, with lots of loafing in-between:). Your little Ava reminds so much of my little Ava, loving on the animals. Our Ava is our high-spirited child;), but she keeps us laughing. Love the black & white scarf!

  9. Alison,
What a perfect retreat you had. I loved seeing all of those photos, especially of the horse, the baby hog ( so cute!!), and the pond view…so pretty. Love your weekly outfits, all so pretty and casually chic, crazy about the hunter boots and I love the first ikat scarf!
    Welcome home!
    XX, Elle

  10. Your week looked like it was just perfect! Here in Seattle we have 3 more weeks until our Spring Break starts. All of your outfits were so pretty. I think I need a scarf overhaul…out with the old and in with the new! Thanks for sharing…Lana

  11. Sounds like an amazing vacation among the nature. Fishing, outdoor picnics and horse-riding sounds like so much fun. We all need to un-plug sometime.

Great Outfits too. I love best the Gray+Yellow one and the last one with your Hot Pink Popover, the Dark Jeans & Floral Scarf.

Looking forward to your great Blogger Collaboration too.

I am now caught up with your lovely blog Alison. You can stop by mine anytime LOL. Happy Hump Day!

  12. I actually love the outfit with the yoga jacket! Sounds like you guys had an awesome week. It’s good to take a break from blogland every now and then. p.s. Inspired by your recent post, I finally ordered myself a pair of white jeans!

  13. Hi !! I am new to your blog (actually I stumbled upon it by accident but boy am I glad I did!!). I am just not getting out of my yoga pants phase (horrible, 30lbs heavier, and shameful phase of my life!) and I just want to say how much you inspire me because all your looks are comfy. Yes, they’re cute too …. but they’re comfy and you shop at TARGET ??!!! You are my new best friend. Thank you for helping so many of us as we strive to be our best selves.

Would you mind telling me how you store your scarves? Do you hang them? Fold them? What’s best? I love scarves too …

    Again… Thank you!
Angelica (new kid on the Pretty block)
