Spring Essentials: All About the Trench

my-trench-coats It may not quite feel like it yet depending on where you are but spring is just around the corner.  In preparation for the Spring 2015 GYPO Style Challenge, I’m starting a series each Friday featuring a different spring essential to add to your wardrobe.

Our first week is all about the trench.  It’s no secret that I’m slightly obsessed with trench coats and here’s why:

Three Reasons Why Trench Coats are a Spring Essential

  1. They will never, ever go out of style.  A good trench coat lasts forever.
  2. They’re incredibly versatile and can be worn with skinny jeans and flats, dresses and heels or anything in between.
  3. They pull together any look and add a touch of chic like nothing else can.

Whether you go with traditional khaki or experiment with color and pattern, you just can’t go wrong.  Here are a few ways that I styled my trench coat collection last year.

    • You’re going to love it when you get one Lauren.

  • Eeeek I love it!! I think I’ve always been afraid of a trench coat. I’m needing a cute coat for Spring. I will definitely be on the look out for one. Very cute!

    • Happy shopping! 🙂 🙂 Let me know which one you get.

I ADORE your trench coat collection! I was at TJMaxx the other day and they had an adorable, navy with tiny white polka dots, London Fog trench for $79!!! I didn’t get it, but now I wish I had!

    • Hopefully they still have it. That’s a great deal!

  • You have an amazing collection of trench coats! I’m totally obsessed with the striped one, so chic!!

I’ve had the same black trench coat for – dare I say it? – 25 years???? Might be time for a new one; I love the springy colors but I’m not sure I’m brave enough.

    • You can always try it out. 🙂

PS Can we get the 2014 spring challenge if we’re already signed up for your emails?

  • Just ordered a beautiful Navy Michael Kors trench! CAN’T WAIT for the challenge!

    • So fun and beautiful Corie!

  • Lynne

I love trench coats. I just ordered a pretty red one today. I couldn’t decide between red and khaki but finally decided on the pretty red one! I love bright colors!

    • Red is a perfect color Lynne. Great choice!

  • Sara

Colors and patterns and I need a bigger coat closet! Love these ideas.

  • Love the trench coat look that you and Jo-Lynne Shane both featured this week. Can’t wait to see pics from Paris and your own take on French fashion. Be safe and make lots of wonderful memories.

    • Thank u! I’ll be sharing them soon when I get back.

  • These are really great options! I was immediately drawn to the coral options. I’ve been considering getting a trench coat because my only light jackets are leather moto jackets, and a trench would be more versatile I think.

    • You will love the trench coat Inge!

  • Sandy

Oh I love that blue striped coat ! I always think I have to get a neutral color but I “really” like the looks of this one. Might have to try and find it on sale though. Have fun on your trip.

  • I have a plain khaki trench and absolutely adore it. Thinking I need to add one in a fun color!!!!!!

  • Joanne

I have a short red trench style long jacket and just bought a caramel coloured short trench coat with back pleats. It’s become my go to coat any time I’m going out, except when walking the dog. The colour goes with everything in my wardrobe. I really do love your striped trench. Perhaps, I need another. Lol

    • Those are perfect colors and be a little addicting. 🙂

  • TDC

I love the information on the trench coats b/c I am in need of purchasing one. Also, I would like to ask you where you got your bed skirt? I have noticed it in several of your pictures and I would love to find one exactly like that! Thanks, Alison

    • Let me look and i’ll send you the information 🙂

      • TDC

        Thank you!

  • I’m off on a shopping trip with some girlfriends next week. Any chance the challenge shopping list will be available prior to then??

    • The spring shopping list will be available in a couple weeks.
