Trend Watch | DIY Studded Heart Sweatshirt

One of my favorite weekly reads is the blog Henry Happened.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should.  Stephanie does awesome fashion DIY’s that even my craft-impaired self can manage.  I’ve been pinning lots of them but hadn’t gotten around to doing one yet.

Until now.

A few weeks ago, I saw this little gem and just knew I had to make it – a DIY studded heart sweatshirt.  My daughters have been totally obsessed with the heart sweatshirt trend.  I have to admit, I kind of am too.  With Valentines Day just around the corner,  I thought this would be the perfect wearable craft to endeavor.

So I did, and you can too!

Step #1 – Get a sweatshirt.

Following Stephanie’s lead, I got a super soft and comfy one at Walmart for about $5.

Step #2 – Get some studs.

Wait a minute, that doesn’t sound right!  But what else can I say?  That’s what they are.  Studs.  OK, question:  Is my hubby the only one who takes his stud finder and rubs it over his chest and says “Look, it found one!”  Please tell me he’s not.  Please?

Anyway, I found these iron-on studs at Michael’s in the bling section.  There’s not really a bling section, but you know what I mean.  You’re going to need four packs (40 each) to create this heart design.

Step #3 -Cut studs into strips.

Make sure to trim the sticky overlay pretty close to the edge of the studs.  This will help prevent overlap when you start lining them up in your pattern.

Step #4 – Place the studs in a heart design.

I followed the pattern in Stephanie’s pics.  You can follow mine or hers (they’re the same).  It will make your life easier, trust me.

Step #5 – Iron it on.

Carefully flip it over and iron the back of the design from the inside.  This is the best way to keep the design intact.  Follow the iron-on studs’ package instructions for iron setting, length of time, etc.

Step #6 – Wear and Enjoy.

Run around like a crazy person pointing at it and shouting “I made this, so in YO FACE!”  And make sure someone takes pics so you can pin them because you are so, so excited that you finally did a fashion DIY and that it turned out really cute and not at all crappy.

Or just wear and enjoy.

It’s totally up to you.  :)

It’s Your Turn:  Are you planning to make any Valentine’s crafts?  Have you ever made a fashion DIY?  Tell me in the comments!
