Pretty Fix: The May List

Do you subscribe to one of those personal styling monthly box services?  I can’t speak from experience because I’ve never tried one, but the feedback I’ve gotten from many of you is that often times they totally “miss the mark”.  You’ve told me what you really want is budget friendly pieces to add to your wardrobe and keep you on trend without having to ship them back if they don’t work out.

One of you brilliant readers asked me to come up with a list of five affordable items that I’d personally recommend each month.  And so the idea for the Pretty Fix was born.

The Pretty Fix is a new monthly feature at Get Your Pretty On that features my top five picks for the month that you can shop for on your own to stay in style at a price you’ll love.

Want to know the best part?  You can buy everything in this month’s fix for under $100!

Consider me your new budget-minded personal shopper.  Here’s May’s Pretty Fix.

1.  Floppy Hat – $14.99

Fedoras are still in but the floppy hat is having it’s moment.  I just picked one up for our upcoming summer beach vacation.  The wider brim provides more sun protection.

2.  White Sundress – $30

Don’t let white scare you.  A basic white sundress will be your new go-to for summer.  You can dress it up with wedges or pair it with flip flops for a day at the beach.  The versatility is amazing.  Look with one with eyelet details to be totally on-trend.

3.  Statement Studs – $8

Studs in a generous size are a no-fuss way to accessorize your summer outfits.  In coral or mint, you’ll be pairing these with everything all summer long.

4.  Gel Nail Polish – $7.99

This pretty pinkish coral is the perfect pedi color and the gel formula lasts up to two weeks.

Add more stripes to your life with these adorable espadrilles.

  • Robin Waibel

I have the hardest time when buying hats –my head is just a little larger than normal 🙂 I can never wear the hats at Target, etc.. Do you have a recommendation for any places that sell hats in slightly larger sizes?? Thanks!

    • Are you in one of our GYPO Style Challenges? The ladies are great help with asking questions on best places to find hats in larger sizes. 🙂

  • I’m writing a piece about it too! thanks for linking to our interview!

    • Great minds think alike.

  • Sandy

Oh what a great idea and just one more way you have found a way to help those of us who are “style-challenged”. I usually wear just a blah neutral nail polish but now I am putting this pretty color on my shopping list! Thanks for all your style help Allison.

    • You’re welcome Sandy!

  • Lynn R

Alison, a big THANK YOU to the reader who suggested this! What a great idea! I really love your picks for this month and can’t wait to see this regularly. You rock!

    • Happy shopping Lynn. I owe this suggestion to the amazing reader. 🙂

  • I love Gel polish, it really do last but my experience has been not 2 weeks closer to 10 days.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.

    • I love it too Alice. So many beautiful gel colors.

  • Alison, I absolutely loved this interview. Your optimistic attitude is so contagious.

  • Gotta have one of those cute espads asap!

    • I love it Rebecca. You will too. 😉

  • OMG, I LOVE this idea! and your first pick has set the bar high my friend! 😉

    • Thanks Sarah. Can’t wait to continue this.

  • Great idea! I do subscribe to Stitch Fix, but they are expensive. I’ve heard from a lot of readers that they are unaffordable. I think most subscribers only keep one item to keep the cost down. In the past I’ve always kept everything, but my last fix I only kept two items because the other items didn’t work. But now that I’m not working anymore, I will probably only be able to keep one item too. I do like ‘being surprised’ and having someone else pick out something for me. Thats the fun part. It’s like getting a present. I do like this idea too. Those shoes are so cute!

    • Thanks Amy. I had so much fun putting these together. Enjoy the Pretty Fix!

  • Vicky

Yeah! This the perfect feature for Moms on a budget…

  • The Pretty Fix is a great idea. Congratulations on the interview!

  • MaryAnn

This idea is completely genius. Stitch Fix does not work for me for exactly the reasons mentioned; a monthly Pretty Fix is far more useful to me. Thanks so much, Alison.

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed it MaryAnn. I look forward to having you see the next Pretty Fix and those to come!

  • Teresa H. Fields

Allison, I really think this new series will be a hit. I’ve tried a box monthly thing a few times and have never been totally satisfied and felt I spent too much. With the challenges you do, I’ve come to be able to make more things work on my own. This new series will fill in when a challenge is over. I like it by the month as it gives new ideas. I’m picking up the hat and studs for a trip I have coming up. Thanks for the ideas!! Looking forward to the June Pretty Fix.
    Thanks so much,

    • Thank you Teresa. I look forward to having you be a part of this Pretty Fix!

  • Tiffany H

This is a great idea! I love the choices you made and love that they are items that I can find in stores near me at prices I can afford. Thanks! Can’t wait to see the next Pretty Fix.

    • I’m so glad you like it Tiffany. Enjoy!

  • Hmmm….I love this idea! I love the pieces you included in this month’s fix as the weather my way has already begun heating up. Thanks for hosting the link up as well 🙂

    • Can’t wait for you to see next month’s Pretty Fix.

  • Lisa McArdle

FYI The featured Old Navy eyelet dress is only $12.99 in ON stores! I just scored one!

  • Vanessa

Where is the dress from interest the first picture, with all the items?

  • Cindy

Thanks Alison! I did one of those for about six months. I bought a couple of pieces (of what ended up being) very expensive items. They did “miss the mark” many times even though I tried to tell them as much as I could about my style. I cancelled right about the time I found YOU! Your challenges and now this “fix” are just great for those of us who want to be stylish but would like to be on a budget too. Thanks again for all you do!

    • Cindy, I’m so glad you found GYPO! Can’t wait for you to continue the Pretty Fix list with me along the way.

  • Ida

What a great idea for a series – thanks, Alison! Please keep doing these.

  • WHAT A FUN SERIES!!!!!!!! Those studs are amazing. I have them in all 5 colors! 🙂

    • Thanks girl. You have a great collection. 🙂

  • I have a ton of scarves…but I can’t seem to be able to fold them around myself. Wish I could make it work. Loved your interview with MommyinSports. I agree with so many of your philosophies. I spend my $$ on jeans, the dark, skinny and somewhat flexible. Excited to have met you.

    • Excited that you have found me Caryn! Welcome!
