I Feel Pretty | On My Birthday

Birthdays really should last more than one day, am I right?  If possible, I’d like to celebrate all month long.  Since I can’t do that (and quite frankly, my family would get tired of it really quickly) I do at least stretch it out for a weekend.  Even though my official birthday was on Sunday, this past weekend was all about me.  🙂

On Friday I got my hair cut and then did some “research” at the mall for the fall style challenge.  If you’re following me on Instagram, you already know that this whole outfit came home with me.

On Saturday, I had my first surprise, Devon came home from college!  That evening, we had a dinner party at our house.  Craig cooked a delicious feast and invited my sisters and brothers-in-law.  My brother-in-law Victor brought me my first ever pinata in the shape of a giraffe.  It was almost too cute to crack open, but we did anyway.

After dinner, we had my all-time favorite cake, the Berry Chantilly cake from Whole Foods.  I could eat the whole thing myself. Then it was present time.  In traditional Craig fashion, he tricked me by wrapping up a little box and hiding my real gift, a new Macbook Pro, in the bottom of the laundry basket.  When I found it, I started crying.  You have NO idea how long I’ve been waiting to get one.  My dinosaur PC was five years old and gave me grief on a daily basis.  The Mac learning curve has been a little steep but I’m getting the hang of it!

On my actual birthday, we went to brunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant and relaxed the rest of the day.  It was so nice having Devon home and being able to celebrate as a complete family!

This is what I wore for our dinner party Saturday night.  It felt good to get a little dressed up, even if we were just staying in.

Let’s talk about these jeans that I’m wearing for a minute.  I love them so much that I walked out of Loft with four pairs in different colors.  That NEVER happens!  They are perfect in every way – great length for ankle boots, just right stretch, hold their shape, perfect rise.  Just get them already, you’ll thank me later.

  1. Happy Birthday, Alison! So special to have your entire family there to celebrate with you. The jeans look awesome, good pick!

  2. Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had the perfect weekend! Love your brunch outfit! You look great in pink!

  3. Haircuts always make me feel wonderful 🙂

You’ll have to let me know when that MacBook learning curve is over and how you like it…our laptop is on its last leg and we are debating what to get next!

Glad you had a wonderful weekend! And I’m sorta obsessed with that plaid scarf…

    1. Thank you sweet friend. The scarf is a gorgeous color. I think I should wear pink more often. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments. 🙂

  4. Happy Belated birthday! It looks like you had a ton of fun. I had to laugh–when I got a Mac for christmas (at Thanksgiving) a few years ago, I cried too! But it was because I was afraid of the learning curve and I was completely overwhelmed at the time getting ready for Christmas, getting a son ready to leave home, and getting our house ready to sell. Once I actually learned it, I love it. No viruses! It has been 3 years of computer bliss. If you can, take some of the classes they offer at the Apple store–they are super helpful.

    1. Thank you Cynthia. It’s what every woman wants for their birthday! It’s a great top and I’m considering buying a different color. 🙂

  5. Happy Birthday! Love the jeans outfit with the pink blouse. Sadly the blouse is no longer available in pink 🙁
Maybe I’ll pick it up in black.

  6. Happy birthday Alison!! You looked fabulous in your bday outfit! I’m still reeling over that blouse being from Target! Crazy!! My husband also surprised me with a MacBook Pro on Saturday! It’s not my bday, but it was still a completely unexpected surprise. My dinosaur PC was 7 years old and I wanted to throw it out the window on a nearly daily basis!

    1. Thanks Courtney. What a sweet surprise from your husband! It’s hard to believe the blouse is from Target. It was a perfect find and gorgeous!!

  7. Happy Belated Birthday Alison! You so deserved a fabulous extended celebration! I love your treat outfit & you look stunning in your birthday outfit too! Love those sandals! Thank you for being a lovely hostess as always! Big Hugs! Ax

  8. Happy Happy Birthday Alison! Love the both looks! And thanks so much for giving the link for the ON scarf! Being purchased as I type this 🙂 Have a great day!

  9. I am so glad that your kids were all together for your bday Alison!! It sounds like a great weekend! I added those jeans to my cart! I hope they have them in red too! Susan

  10. Happy Birthday Alison! We always celebrate birthday “weekends” too! I’m loving Loft jeans this year – they did a great job. You look beautiful! Can’t wait for the Fall Challenge to start.

  11. beautiful birthday outfit!!
I can’t even tell you how excited I am for the fall challenge; however, I’m thinking my husband is not liking my “style challenge addiction” lol Though I have argued that it’s actually saving us money 😉 ya, we’ll go with that!

  12. Happy BirthMonth, Alison! Yes… please DO celebrate the entire month. I did not learn to do this for myself until I was in my fifties, and wish I had started much earlier. No, I don’t have a cake or party every day, but I do celebrate little things just for myself; lunch with a friend(s), special coffee drink, finding a pretty leaf, refreshed manicure, movie with my husband, glass of wine on the deck, a phone call with one of our sons ….. something small each day to make me feel special. Give yourself that treat and enjoy YOUR BirthMonth!

  13. Happy birthday, Alison! SO glad you got to celebrate with your whole family! I’d rather have my family gathered around me than any present purchased from a store. You are a blessed woman!

    1. Thanks Tiffany. I love being a Virgo! Happy belated birthday to you! I couldn’t resist the scarf, it is perfect for fall and winter! Are you looking forward to the season changes?

  14. Happy Birthday!!! I agree B-days should last longer than a day:)! You look very pretty, and I’m glad you were able to enjoy your weekend with your whole family. Karen S.

    1. Thank you Ashley. I would love to stretch out birthday’s for a whole month long. 🙂 Every lady needs a pink top in their outfit. Don’t you agree?

  15. Happy Birthday, Alison! You look amazing in those Loft jeans! I haven’t tried the curvy skinny jeans yet, but I have their modern skinny ankle jeans and they’re my absolute favorite! I also bought the cute scarf from Old Navy and I love it! Can’t wait to participate in the fall challenge. 🙂

    1. Thank you Christine. The Loft jeans are my favorite. Can you believe that I walked out with four pairs in different colors?! Stay tuned for the fall challenge. Can’t wait for you to participate!

  16. Happy Belated Birthday Alison! You look beautiful and I love that color on you. So cute, my husband surprised me with a Mac on Mother’s Day this year and I cried too! Those unexpected gifts are the best:)

    Take Care,

  17. Love the pink top! When I went to the link, it said they couldn’t find that item. 🙁 Boohoo! That’s my kind of top!

  18. Happy Birthday!!! even if belated 🙂 Hope you had a great day! The color of your top suits you really well and I like the cut, obviously since I have something similar. Also love the seemingly messed up necklace.

  19. Happy birthday! Many blessings to you for the upcoming year! Looks like you had a fun day. I love that outfit; I may be visiting Old Navy soon….so cute!!

  20. I am not sure how long ago your bday was…but HAPPY BIRTHDAY girl! It has been forever since I popped by and so much has changed! Love the new site! Beautiful.
So glad to see that style challenge took off for you…you always…well…PRETTY…so I had NO DOUBT that everyone would jump at the chance to get some style advice.
Kudos to you for all the amazing things going on in your life!
Think of you often..always one of my favorite reads….life has just been so busy..I don’t get to spend as much time visiting blogs these days!
    ALl for now! Happy Thursday!

    1. Happy, happy Thursday Carly! Thank you. It’s great to see you stopping by again. I understand how life busy can get, it’s nice to sit down and relax reading blogs. SO glad you chose mine to visit today. Your words are too sweet. THANK YOU again!

  21. Happy birthday! Love the outfit–and I happen to be wearing those jeans in the medium wash right now. Yay for casual Fridays 🙂 They really are awesome jeans!

  22. Happy Belated Birthday. Sorry I was too busy to comment on Wednesday when I linked up. You look beyond pretty. Love you in fuchsia. It is one of my most favorite colors and I am wearing it today, also. And that cake is so cute. Your family is very thoughtful for sure.

Hope you were a spoiled princess on your birthday, Ali. Enjoy the weekend. <3 Ada.

  23. Question about the jeans: anytime someone buys 4 of something that is pretty amazing 😀
What body type would you consider yourself? I’m wondering about which body type they are most flattering on!

    1. Hi Susie! I consider myself curvy. I’m 5’4″ and bought the curvy jeans in a size smaller than what I usually wear. Yes, they are pretty amazing, my new favorite jeans! They do sell them in regular too (not curvy).
