Payday Pretty | BYOB – Scarf Nirvana

Hello, pretties and TGIF!  Welcome to week three of Build Your Outfit Basics.  If you’re new here, let me catch you up.  BYOB is a six week series built around my Five Wardrobe Basics for Real Moms.  Each week I feature one of these outfit builders along with some affordable options to help you build or add onto your own wardrobe.

In week one, I featured dark wash skinny jeans.  Week two was all about fabulous, cute and comfy flats and week three features one of my favorites, scarves.

All week long I racked my brain trying to come up with a clever post title using the word scarf.  I tried to make it rhyme but the only word I could think of was barf.  Nope that’s not going to work.

Then Scarf Nirvana hit me after an experience I had this week where I literally found just that.  It all started a few days back when my 8 year-old daughter begged me to take her to Rue 21 to look for mustache themed items (she’s totally obsessed).  I’d never set foot into Rue 21 before but knew it was popular among the whippersnappers (you know, people half my age and younger).

As soon as I walked in the door, I spotted the most incredible selection of scarves I’ve ever laid eyes upon.

There were racks and racks just like this.  And the best part?  All of them were $8.99 and under!

I started digging through them like a crazy lady.  Seriously, the teenagers shopping next to me were frightened.  Then I spotted THE ONE that had to come home with me.

I’ve already worn it twice this week.

Styled in Wednesday’s post here:

 And again here:

Yep, Bailey photo bombed me again.  Couldn’t you just kiss that face?

I don’t need to tell you how incredible scarves are for your wardrobe. They take any outfit and make it better.  And they’re a really inexpensive way to add A WHOLE LOTTA style.  As my friend Sheaffer says, scarves can “zhuzh” up any outfit.  (She claims it’s a word.  I believe her).

There are a lot of really great options out there that won’t break the bank.  Here are some that I’d love to add to my collection!

[Steve Madden Infinity  Ombre Scarf:  $28]

[Scarlet Fever Cheetah Scarf:  $18]

[The Lovely Heart Scarf:  $20]

It’s Your Turn: Which scarf is your favorite? How would you pair it up? Tell me in the comments!

  1. I love the Teal Steve Madden Infinity Scarf. Teal is such a hot color this year. I would pair it with a leopard cardigan, or a cream sleeveless blouse with skinny jeans for a night on the town.

  2. That scarf is such a wonderful find – I love it when I buy something and love it so much that I have to wear it more than once immediately 🙂

Thank you again for stopping by my blog xo

  3. You are so right about scarves. They are an inexpensive way to take your outfit up a notch or give it some “zhuzh.” I have been loving infinity scarves lately. I did a Payday Pretty post today. I got a pair of leopard loafers at Target for $20 this week and a jeweled collared top from New York & Co. last week for $20. Score 🙂 Heather

  4. “zhuzh” is a word. Stacey and Clinton use it all the time! Great post on scarves. I have way too many, but could always use more….!!!

    1. I love Stacey and Clinton, haven’t had my fix of them in a long time! Yes, a girl can NEVER have too many scarves!

  5. I found you through the Aloha Blog-Hop…and wow!
I love your bargains and fashion sense. I have basically none- I hit up Pinterest when I want to put something together!
Rue 21 has scarves??? I’ve always been a tad afraid to go in there without my middleschooler with me!
Will be following your blog from now on!

  6. Your scarf is gorgeous & girly – 100% my style. I love scarves. You might say I have a slight obsession with them. I love all the scarves here. And I love your idea of setting aside 20 bucks to spend on yourself. Neat.

Thanks for stopping by my blog as well. You are very welcome for the compliments, Alison. Let me know how I can follow your blog – I love it.

Ohh and I would appreciate you following me, too. =)

  7. I cant believe how FREAKING adorable Bailey is looking at his self in the mirroe sneaking his little self into the photo. He is so cute.

  8. Girl! I discovered rue @! (My kindle will not let my type numbers at the moment – go figure) Anyway I discovered that store when I was pregnant and looking for cheap leggings and tunic tops (which were actually dresses). I stop in there every now and then, but haven’t found anything in a while. 🙂
I love scarves and have tons of them. I wore a leopard one today. 🙂

  9. I “discovered” Rue 21 a few years ago when I was looking for Christmas presents for my son’s girlfriend. I ended up picking out several items for my husband to “gift” me with too! I don’t go in a lot, but I seem to find something whenever I do go in (I always look at the jewelry and shoes). Now, I am so anxious to go look at the scarves because one of my favorite things to add to any outfit is a great scarf!
