Summer Vacation Packing List

I used the 10 day packing list and the challenge for our cruise this past week – I cannot begin to express how EASY it was to pack for the trip and feel so cute and put together each day…. thank you thank you for all the hard work you do for us! – Elizabeth

What if I Don’t Like the Pieces or Outfits?

The great thing about this challenge is that it works for everyone.  You’re able to shop where you want and modify any of the pieces or outfits to suit your comfort level and style.  GYPO Style Challenges work for practically all body types, ages and climates.  If you don’t wear shorts, don’t worry, you can substitute for what you’re comfortable in.  You also have two weeks from the release of the shopping list to request a refund if you feel that it’s not right for you.

Here’s an example of an actual outfit from the challenge.

Summer Style 1

NEW!  Work Wear Substitutions – Due to popular demand, the shopping list for this challenge will include work wear pieces so you can swap out the casual wear to make the outfits appropriate for your office environment.

How Much Does it Cost to Participate?

If you were working one-on-one with a stylist and personal shopper, the average cost of a capsule wardrobe and 21 different styling options would be well over $1,000!  But one of the beliefs that I founded GYPO on is that great style should be accessible and affordable for everyone.  Every woman deserves to feel pretty inside and out.  This challenge is now ON SALE for just $14.99.

Will I Have to Invest a lot of Money into the Shopping List?

The simple answer is no.  It’s really up to you how much you want to spend.  Many of the pieces will already be in your closet, I’m just showing you different ways to pair them up.  If you decide to buy new items, you’re free to shop at your favorite stores and spend as much or as little as you want.  I provide lower end and mid-range recommendations but the amount of investment is totally up to you.

What if I Can’t Find the Pieces on the Shopping List?

Most of the pieces can be found anywhere but just in case, I do provide substitutions.

What Other Style Challengers are Saying

Spring Challenge Collage 3

I ABSOLUTELY love this challenge! One of the best parts of this list is how affordable it is! Each person can choose to spend as much or as little as they want on clothing items. I love that we will style clothes that can be from Target or Saks-and look absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you! Today was a breakthrough for me; I felt so good, confident and stylish, and yet still so comfortable–in my outfit and in my own skin. I wasn’t hiding under baggy clothes, wasn’t tugging on something that didn’t fit well, and wasn’t wearing something that didn’t feel like ME. What a difference! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU all!

Looking at the clothes in my closet a whole different way…not something I would of even thought of a week ago…thank you for “challenging” me to go outside my “comfort level”!

I’m getting so many good ideas here and learning so much from what you’ve shared, I’ve started a little folder of pics/ideas to take shopping. I feel like I know what I’m looking for and shopping smarter. Thanks!

It’s nice to have a group of positive women encouraging each other. It’s very refreshing in our world-I’m feeling good about my body and clothing choices instead of feeling like I don’t measure up. Thanks Alison.

GYPO Style Challenges are about so much more than the clothes.  They’re about changing lives one outfit at a time.  Read what some past participants have to say about how it’s effected their lives.

This challenge has brought a NEW me. I am a teacher, a mom, wife, and this has helped bring a smile to my face every day! I am getting compliments on my outfits from teachers and my students are loving the accessories!” – Karan

“I’ve never been stopped by strangers and generally don’t get noticed. Don’t get me wrong – I’m extremely confident about my abilities, but not how I look. This week I have turned a corner. When I enter the office in the morning, the secretaries stop me to check me out. A total stranger at Target told me she loved my bright green trench coat and my scarf. Even middle school students have noticed that I’m looking different. And they approve.  Earlier this week I texted my husband “I feel pretty” and he texted back “You ARE!” Maybe after a few more weeks of this I will believe it.” – Laura

“Besides having a ton of fun waiting for each day’s outfit to be revealed and tweaking it to fit my style, one of the best aspects of the GYPO Style Challenge has been the positive new friends I’ve connected with on the Challenge Facebook page! The kind words, humor, and genuine care for others have been such an inspiration and encouragement to me. No matter the age, body shape, or walk of life, it’s been a confidence builder to have a safe place to show my style!“ – Jena

“Just the thought of having all the right pieces and being ready to go out without having to stress about what to wear sounded like a dream. I had to sign up.  It’s been exciting, from getting the list on the first day to the unveiling of the outfits each day, but little did I know that the Facebook group would be the highlight of this Challenge. I’m always checking the page to see the new posts. The people are very encouraging to each other. How in the world do you have the nicest and most caring followers?!  My family and friends have given me many compliments and feel that I am getting out of my comfort zone. I feel that too. The great thing about all of this is that even when I’m not physically feeling my best, looking good on the outside can make a big difference on how I feel on the inside. And for me, that’s totally worth it. 🙂  Thank you, Alison, from the bottom of my heart.” – Cathy

“First of all I would like to thank you for doing this. This is something I’ve needed for a long time. I’m a single hard working mommy of 3 kids, 2 with special needs. Both are doing very well now that I feel comfortable to give me some me time. I work with a bunch of guys for over 10 years and It’s got to the point that I feel just like one of the guys and I’m ready to feel like a women again. This is teaching me how to put outfits together and trying new things.  I’m definitely stepping out of my comfort zone with “The Scarf” LOL and the Maxi. The ladies in this group are awesome, supportive and funny. It’s definitely a pick me up and I feel good about myself. I’m looking forward to the next challenge.” – Christine

I am learning so much from this challenge.  And most of it isn’t even about outfits.  I have 45 pounds to lose to get to a healthy weight, and I have been feeling like I can’t look pretty.  The ladies on the Facebook page are so encouraging to each other, and when I look at their photos, I don’t judge them at all.  I just see pretty, stylish, and brave people who are putting themselves out there and being who they are with confidence.  I am so inspired by this.  I haven’t posted a selfie yet, but I am working up my nerve and I will soon.  Also, I am learning that being a confident and beautiful women is more about who I am inside and how I think than what outfits I have in my closet.  Most of the clothes I am wearing for this challenge are pieces I already owned.  This is teaching me that feeling pretty starts on the inside, and it isn’t about having the perfect piece of clothing.  It’s more about leaving the house with a pretty attitude.  I can’t believe the outfits I have found in my own closet!!  Going shopping is fun, and new clothes are awesome, but it’s more than that.  I have also learned a lot about the power of words and what kind and encouraging words can do for someone.  More than once I have been moved to tears by some of the posts and responses on the Facebook group.  What woman doesn’t long to hear, “You are lovely, and you matter.”  We need to be saying these things to our friends way more often!  – Krista

I never expected the community that developed from the Facebook page. It is probably one of the most unique experiences I have had…I love the support that people are giving each other. I love hearing other’s stories-so touching…the struggles with health issues, weight, self esteem. I love that because of this challenge that some are feeling so much better about themselves. I also am loving that I feel like I have a whole new circle of friends. Hope we can keep this group going past the end of the challenge because I truly will miss the words of support, the humor, and, of course, the selfies. 😉  Thanks again Alison. – Mary

This challenge has been so beneficial for so many reasons.  One, I am always “waiting for that perfect size” to shop.  That usually leaves me with a few pieces that fit me and a lot of clothes that don’t.  I feel like the shopping list has given a wonderful set of mix/match clothing pieces that I am happy to wear.  I feel confident in everything and most importantly comfortable!  It’s also been such a supportive environment to try new things.  I really didn’t think I would post any selfies on the FB page.  However, in doing so each day, I am learning so many little lessons that are helping in “putting myself together.”  For example, what colors look the best on me, tucking shirts in vs. out, the best length to wear my sweaters, etc.  The best part, though, has been realizing how many women want the same thing I do and that we are all our worst critic.  Its really been amazing being a part of a group so excited about getting dressed the next day!  🙂  I am using this Style challenge as a way to focus more on me and improve many areas in my life, including diet and exercise.  My hope is that with each challenge you do, and I do hope you do one for each season, that I’ll be trading in my new boyfriend and skinny jeans for “smaller” size boyfriend/skinny jeans!  And adding, of course, fabulous new shoes and accessories!  Thanks Alison!  Keeping doing what you do!  You do it very well! – Heather

We even have a few MOPS groups that participate together.

Just signed up for the Summer Challenge, although a little late….I couldn’t quite decide if I had “time” to make the commitment, but took the plunge this morning! Yesterday, I ran into Old Navy to look for a white jean skirt and all I could think about was looking for shorts that were a similar style to what I had seen on your website as a sneak peak. That pretty much confirmed it for me! I was thinking about it already! I can hardly wait to get the list of items by email! Here we go?…

    • Yay! Happy that you decided to take the plunge with us, Toni. It’s going to be so much fun!

When will you do the next challenge? I a teacher and go back in about a month and would love to have a new challenge to shop for before I go back to my crazy life.

    • Hi Kristy! The Work Wear challenge is going to be perfect for teachers. It starts in mid-August. Information will be coming out about registration next week. Thanks!

  • Lisa

Hi Alison! Love this idea.. although I’m too late for it. Will you be doing this in the Fall?

  • Melody Billingsley

    Alison,
I am a teacher. School starts mid August and I start getting really busy preparing the 1st of Aug. It would be great if you could get the challenge out the beginning of July when teachers could actually have time to shop before all the craziness of the school year begins. People usually don’t realize how time consuming preparation for the school year is. Thank you for your challenges. I will try to participate in this next one even though it will be a little crazy.

  • Hi! I would love to know where those adorable wedges are from!

    • Shannon, they are from Target last year. I love them!

  • Yvette

I purchased this challenge just a few weeks ago as something to do in anticipation of preparing for spring. I quickly discovered that I had all but 4 items on the list (heading out to purchase those this week – at my fave resale shops!). The best part of this challenge: As I pulled items from my wardrobe and laid them out in the 21 combinations, I discovered additional new ways to wear many of the pieces. I live in South Texas, so I’ll likely be able to start wearing these outfits soon. I’m also really looking forward to the spring challenge. Bring on spring!
