The Next Thing You Need | Winter Workout Gear

So, how are those resolutions treating you?  We are ten days into the new year and if I’m being honest, I’m still struggling with getting back on the healthy living track.  I think part of the issue is the cold weather.  It makes me crave junk food and want to stay indoors in my PJ’s.

One way I’m hoping to get my motivation mojo back is with some new winter workout gear.  Our poor golden retriever is suffering from the effects of a long winter indoors.  She’s been begging me for an outside run for weeks.  It’s time to throw on some winter workout layers and get both of us out the door!

Here’s one of my favorite ways to layer up for an outside run on a cold winter day.

  1. I think that I feel better when I am dressed nicely to exercise. It has been so cold here that I have been throwing on thick sweats and I feel like a schlump! I am going to pick up a few pieces you have listed! Happy weekend! Susan

  2. Earlier this week it was cold here and I can totally understand you. I did not workout until it was warm again. Hopefully you get back on track soon, stay strong.

  3. For some reason, I tend to workout more in the colder months than any other time. I think it’s because when the sun is out & it’s warm, I’d rather be playing than working out.

  4. Cute workout clothes for one keep me motivated. Going out in the cold is miserable, but I just suck it up and do it. I enjoy Zumba so much I don’t mind going to class even if it’s freezing. It’s the days I don’t have Zumba that’s hard to stay motivated to workout at home.

  5. I’m like you, I just want to stay inside and bake or cook. Not good.

I used to run outside in the winter but stopped when I fell on ice. I’ve tried the grips you can put on your shoes for ice running but they were hard to run in and wouldn’t stay on.

Now I just run on the treadmill or do hills.

  6. Baxter was so excited to finally get to walk this morning after being cooped up for so long – of course, by the end I think he was rethinking that position. 🙂

I am frustrated because the Christmas pounds are sticking around even after I ramped up my workouts. So impatient – it took me a month to add them, they are not going to disappear just because of a week in the gym! I am partial to Nike workout wear, it holds up very well.

    Happy Weekend, Alison! 😀

  7. Great workout gear is a good motivation! I wish I could run outside, but with the snow, ice, and slush I am stuck in the gym for the next couple months still. A new magazine to read while working out or new music is a motivator for me, too!

  8. I am in desperate need of some new workout clothes. All I have are long, wide leg pants and they just get in my stinking way. Love them for lounging…but not working out. We just moved and I’ve been having a terrible time getting back to my workout routines…with a non sleeping 6 month old and 3 year old I’m just tired. But this week I decided no more excuses…I feel much better when I make it a priority!

  9. hubs hooked me up with new nikes and really cute winter workout gear in pretty purples and greys. I am EXCITED to get back to the gym. I was SO lazy over th eholidays..oops…getting back on track THIS WEEK! Thanks for the inspo.
    Happy New Year!

  10. What a great post- time to get my butt in gear I suppose! I heard so many thing about Northface, but never figured out what the big deal was with the brand and why it’s so popular. Is it quality? Longevity? I’d love to know your thoughts 🙂 Following on facebook and twitter!

    1. Hi Sandra! From my experience, North Face is good quality and lightweight warmth. That’s really important here in TX! My hubby and I went to Nordstrom right after Christmas and they were sold out of North Face fleece in Dallas. Crazy, right? My fleece jacket has held up extremely well for many years, unlike my cheaper fleece I’ve gotten in the past. Hope that helps!

  11. I have stocked up on fleece lined running tights from Sweaty Betty. They are perfect for a winter run! Love your Nike picks, those tights are a great print!

  12. North Face sale?! I will have to check it out…I’m looking for the Metropolis Parka to keep me warm during this harsh, Chicago winter! And I stay motivated by doing workout DVDs in my basement. When it’s cold and dark outside, the last thing I want to do is get in my car and drive somewhere to work out. That way, I don’t have any excuses not to work out!

  13. It’s not the cold that bothers me, I am british after all and used to it, haha. It’s the rain I avoid!

It’s around 7-10 degrees celsius here currently, so it’s the perfect temperature to run and cycle in! I just wear some long running pants and a long sleeved running shirt and I’m fine!

  14. My mom’s family still living in Sweden has a saying: “There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.” I don’t know if I 100% believe that since temperatures can be in the -40s there, but I definitely believe that wearing the right gear makes all the difference when you work out! I love the idea of layering the jacket and vest – will tuck that idea away for whenever I get to finally see cold weather again!
