I Feel Pretty Festive: Leopard and Plaid Holiday Looks

I Feel Pretty Festive: Leopard and Plaid Holiday Looks

Hey pretties!  It’s officially December and the rush is on!  Holiday parties have already started kicking off for Craig and me. I swear they start earlier every year. But I don’t really mind, it’s kind of nice to have them spread out instead of all falling around the same time.  We’re taking a slow approach to Christmas this year and trying to enjoy everything instead of rushing through it just to check an item off a to-do list.  Which would explain why our outside lights have been a “work in progress” for the past two weeks.  Sorry neighbors!  🙂

For me, leopard and plaid has always felt really festive and special so I knew I was going to build my two new holiday party looks around this festive pattern mix.  Since all of the parties we are going to are somewhat casual, Loft ended up being the perfect solution for finding a few new pieces.  Here are the two outfits I’ll be wearing to all of our Christmas parties this year.

Outfit #1

Plaid Blouse + Pearl Necklace + Gray Jeans + Leopard Booties

My plaid blouse is running low on stock, but this ruffled one is adorable and on sale, so is this bell sleeved plaid top and this off the shoulder version.

If you don’t want to make the investment into my leopard calf hair bootiesthis pair is a bit more budget friendly, especially if these are an occasional wear item. P.S. I don’t regret the investment at all because I’ve worn the heck out of mine already!

Outfit #2

Buffalo Plaid Cape + Bar Back Tee + Pendant Necklace + Velvet Pants + Leopard Booties

I especially LOVE that this buffalo plaid is reversible.  Here it is with the smaller plaid check turned out.

This bar back tee is a piece that stands on it’s own.  You can remove the cape and still have a perfectly chic outfit!

Buffalo plaid is a winter staple!  You can try it out in other ways like this buffalo plaid ruffle shirt or a basic buffalo plaid button down.

I Feel Pretty: Two Winter Outfits + Winter Challenge Giveaway!

I Feel Pretty: Two Winter Outfits + Winter Challenge Giveaway!

Happy hump day pretties! Well our house is officially Christmas-fied and there’s nothing left to do but relax, watch Hallmark movies and sip wine between now and the big day.  Ha! I wish.  More like the frenzy is just beginning. But at least now that our kids are older, gift buying is SO much easier. They’re into one or two big gifts instead of dozens of small ones.  Less shopping + less wrapping = win/win.

Did you all get out on Black Friday for any good deals? I’ve never shopped it in my entire life although my daughter Aubrey and I have stumbled into Target late in the evening by accident the past three or so years.  This year it was to get coffee. While we were there we checked out their deals but didn’t see anything we couldn’t live without.  We also realized that if we went on Black Friday “by accident” three years in a row, we also accidentally created a tradition!  🙂

I did shop at Loft over the weekend and took advantage of their sale to stock up on a few new things for winter.  I’ll post those soon but for now here are some outfits in real life that were in my Four Days of Winter Outfits flat lay post last week.

Outfit #1

Velvet Vest + Floral Top + Corduroy Pants + Pearl Necklace + Taupe Ankle Boots

Last week, we established that pastels are downright magical for winter.  Can I get an amen? When I saw this light pink floral top with a gathered bottom, I couldn’t wait to pair it up with these pretty soft brushed cords. The color is called silver shadow online but they are definitely pale blue in real life.

This pearl statement necklace elevates the whole outfit to make it work for a casual holiday party.  Finish it all out with these super comfy taupe booties.

Sizing Tip:  I’m wearing a medium in the top and got my regular size in the pants (they have plenty of stretch).

UPDATE:  So I’m beyond bummed out that this top is nearly sold out now in every size BUT this outfit would also look great with a sweater like this one with bell sleeves or this cozy blouson or even this cute polar bear sweater.

Yes I’m going to gush over this GORGEOUS velvet puffer vest again because it’s absolute perfection! Seriously the quality on it is amazing, it’s even prettier in person. See how it takes this outfit up another notch!  Oh and it’s ON SALE. If you get just one new item this winter, let this be it.  I promise you’ll love it as much as I do and if you don’t, you can send me a mean e-mail, I can handle it!

Sizing Tip: I got an XS in the vest, it fits generously. If in doubt, size down.

Outfit #2

Cold Shoulder Sweater + Back Zip Leggings + Pendant Necklace + Leopard Booties

Last week I posted about the wrinkles and general dishevelment of my cold shoulder sweater in this pic. That’s because it was still wet after it’s second washing in a week. I CAN’T STOP wearing it!  For an instant outfit, just add skinny jeans (LOVE the zippers on this plum pair) and leopard ankle boots. Finish it off with a rose gold pendant necklace and pave earrings.

The Loft web site calls these pants “leggings” but I’d definitely say they look and feel more like skinny jeans and are a denim material.

Sizing Tip:  The skinny jeans are true to size but stretch a little, if in doubt, size down.  This sweater is true to size and I’m wearing a size small.

Let’s pause to appreciate these leopard booties for just a moment.  They’re my first pair and I can’t believe I’m just now getting on this band wagon! They’re the pair I keep reaching for in my closet everyday because they just seem to go with everything. #leopardisaneutral

Winter Challenge News and Giveaway

Registrations opens this Friday, December 1st for the Winter 2017 GYPO Style Challenge!  We’ll be styling some of these pieces and many others in our 34 days of mix and match outfits.

If you’re new around here, I started the first Style Challenge in Spring of 2014 based upon feedback from a reader survey. You asked me to give you a shopping list of classic basics and seasonal trends that you could shop for on your own.  After putting together that first list, I took it one step further to create mix and match outfit ideas from the pieces on that list. And the first capsule wardrobe was born!

Since then, over 10,000 women in 20 different countries have participated in a Style Challenge.

What it Is:

You’ve probably seen a lot of capsule wardrobe programs popping up lately but the GYPO Style Challenge is the first and original style challenge. You may be asking why pay for something you can find online for free. Well, none of those free programs provide you with as much support, detailed instructions and bonuses as the Style Challenge.

It’s called a challenge only because it “challenges” you to get out of your comfort zone to try new styles – there’s no competition!

Step 1: You get a shopping list of classic basics and seasonal trends with everything you need to create a mix and match capsule wardrobe. You have two weeks to get all of the pieces on the list. You’re free to spend as much or as little as you want but most women shop their closets first! I also provide you with a robust directory of online shopping links from stores you love. Plus we reuse pieces from past challenges so each season builds upon the others. After you participate once, you’re never starting from scratch!

Step 2: After those pieces are in place, you’ll get a daily outfit e-mail each day for 34 days showing you how to pair your pieces up into on-trend looks that work for your daily life. Imagine waking up every day and knowing EXACTLY what to wear! It makes getting dressed a no-brainer.

Step 3: Show off your new style in our private Facebook group. This is honestly the best part of the challenge! Thousands of women have made real life friends and explored style in this safe, supportive community of like minded women. We share shopping tips, fit advice and our own unique takes on the daily outfits. You will get SO much inspiration just from being in this group.

More Benefits:

Style Challenge Members Only Site – The original Style Challenge is the only one that includes access to the Style Challenges membership site. It’s a handy directory of resources and every Style Challenge you’ve ever purchased all in one place!

Recommended Items Directory – Inside the membership site is an online evergreen catalog of updated shopping links at a variety of price points to the stores you love most. This challenge’s Recommended Items Directory has more shopping options than ever before. You’ll be able to shop classic “basics” or substitute the trendier item for each piece on the list. These links are updated throughout the season so you always have resources for items to buy.

Daily Style Tips – Included with each outfit is a daily style tip to give you easy to implement tips on your style journey.

All of the tools and resources in this program are available for just $39.

What are the important dates?:

Registration opens on Friday, December 1st. We start to style our first outfit on December 18th. You’ll have until then to get everything on the shopping list so I highly recommend signing up as soon as registration opens!

If you don’t have all of your items by then, don’t sweat it! You can always sit back and watch and curate the pieces as you find items you love.

It’s Risk Free!

The best part?  You get to try it risk free!  If you sign up and decide it’s just not for you, you’ll have until December 23rd to request a refund.  As a gift, you can keep the first week of outfit ideas just for trying it.

FAQ’s:

How Much Will I Need to Spend on the Shopping List Items?

That’s totally up to you.  Most women shop their closets first and find that they have quite a few items on the list already. Some are starting from scratch.  I recommend that you set a budget to work within and find the pieces you absolutely love. I also recommend that you take your time to curate the items on the list.  It’s better to wait for a piece that you’ll continue to wear and love than to rush to get all of them at once. Each seasonal capsule builds on other capsules so you should never have to do as much shopping as you do the first time.  Many women are able to completely shop their closets and add in just some fun trends after a few rounds.

Will this Work for My Weather?

Yes!  Women from all over the U.S., Canada and even Europe participate in the challenge and make it work for their climate. You’ll get so much inspiration just from joining the Facebook group.

What Style are the Outfits?

There’s a good mix of casual every day and dressy casual looks.  You can make your own tweaks to the daily outfit prompt to make it work for everything from a day at home to office appropriate.

Do I Have to Style them Every Day?

Nope!  You’re welcome to skip when you want to.  These outfits are just styling suggestions.  Some women choose to participate every day in the Facebook group while others prefer to sit back, watch and learn.  You’re also welcome to substitute some of your favorite pieces from your closet to avoid repetition.  The point of the challenge is to show you how to pair up your pieces in multiple ways.

If you have any other questions about the GYPO Style Challenge, feel free to e-mail me and ask away!

I Feel Pretty: Four Days of Winter Outfits

I Feel Pretty: Four Days of Winter Outfits

I’m not a big shopper. Quite the contrary. After four years of doing GYPO Style Challenges, my wardrobe is smaller than ever. Even though I have less, I also have more of what I love – pieces I wear season after season that create easy outfits that work for my lifestyle.

With the changing of the seasons, I have added a few new trendy tops and accessories and replaced some of my staples – like coats, shoes, and pants.

In preparation for the Winter Seasonal Style Challenge, I did a little “damage”. Today I’m sharing how to dress for the cold fashionably, with some of my recent purchases

How to Dress for the Cold Fashionably Outfit #1

Pastels are downright magical for winter. When I saw this light pink floral top with a gathered bottom, I knew it was a MUST HAVE. These cords add another soft texture to the mix. Even though the color is called silver shadow, they look more pale blue to me in person. This pearl statement necklace is really heavy and well made. It elevates the whole outfit for a casual holiday party. Finish it all out with these super comfy taupe booties.

You will love these four outftils that will show you how to dress for the cold fashionably. That way you can stay warm, cozy and cute.

Puffer Vest / Lace Shirt / Pearl Necklace / Corduroy Pants / Ankle Boots

It was love at first sight when I spied this GORGEOUS velvet puffer vest. Seriously the quality on it is amazing, it’s even prettier in person. It takes the outfit up another notch! If you get just one new item this winter, let this be it. I promise you’ll love it as much as I do.

How to Dress for the Cold Fashionably Outfit #2

My black turtleneck got more wear than almost anything else in my closet last year. The funny thing is this is a really inexpensive one I found on Amazon last year and it’s held up beautifully wash after wash without stretching or fading. I love the look of it paired up with winter white cords, a blue agate pendant necklace, and leopard booties.

You will love these four outftils that will show you how to dress for the cold fashionably. That way you can stay warm, cozy and cute.

Turtleneck / White Corduroy Pants / Necklace / Leopard Boots

One of my “splurge” purchases this year was on a good wool topcoat.  I’ve always dreamed of owning one of these classic beauties in camel. This is a purchase that will last for many years and is totally worth the price tag.

You will love these four outftils that will show you how to dress for the cold fashionably. That way you can stay warm, cozy and cute.

How to Dress for the Cold Fashionably Outfit #3

See the wrinkles and general dishevelment of my cold shoulder sweater in this pic?  That’s because it’s wet after it’s second washing this week because I CAN’T STOP wearing it! #keepingitreal It looks much better when dry. Just take my word for it, you’ll love it! Cold shoulder and off the shoulder are big for winter and this is a fun way to try the trend.

Add in some skinny jeans (LOVE the zippers on this plum pair) and leopard ankle boots for a little edge, finish it off with a rose gold pendant necklace and pave earrings.

Sweater / Plum Pants / Leopard Booties / Necklace / Earrings

How to Dress for the Cold Fashionably Outfit #4

If you saw this week’s SAHMonday post, you saw three ways I paired up this shirt. The cinched sleeves on this olive top are what make it really special. Olive tops pair perfectly with gray released hem jeans. Finish it out with an agate pendant necklace and comfy gray ankle booties.

I Feel Pretty – Two Thanksgiving Outfits

I Feel Pretty – Two Thanksgiving Outfits

Do you struggle with what to wear on Thanksgiving day? Does your Thanksgiving call for getting dressed up and hosting a proper dinner with perfect table settings? Or is it a more casual football watching, buffet style free for all?

Ours is definitely more the second. I host almost every year at our house for our extended family and it’s a day we all look forward to months in advance.

Thanksgiving Prep at The Lumbatis House

Prep starts a few days before, I make my pumpkin pies first from my Aunt Bonnie’s recipe (always, always double the spice).

The night before the women in our family have a tradition that I grew up doing with my Grandma Bussard, mom and sisters – we tear up the loaves of Italian bread for our traditional stuffing (no cornbread dressing for us). Aubrey and Ava usually help out with this, as does my mom and my niece Lauren.

While the bread is being torn, I melt about 8 sticks of butter (yes, 8) and cook onions and celery in it until the whole house smells of this wonderful, once-a-year concoction.  We pour it over the roaster pans full of bread chunks (usually 3 roasters full, we LOVE stuffing), toss to coat them and then cover them in foil for the night to let all of the flavors really soak in. Craig always loosens the foil and steals chunks of buttery bread out of them.

The next morning, I get up early and get my turkey prepped and in the oven. I stuff the cavity with apples, onion, and celery, melt some honey butter to baste him and add in plenty of thyme. My sisters bring the side dishes so my work here is done, at least until it’s time to make gravy.

This gives me enough time for a quick work out and shower before the meal is put on the kitchen island. We serve buffet style around here, no fancy table settings for the Lumbatis’!  Everyone fills up a plate and the guys head upstairs to watch the game in Craig’s man cave, while the women have our “hen party” in the kitchen.

I try to wear something that will be forgiving (um, stretchy jeans!) and comfortable but still feels a little special. Recently I got two tops from Social Threads that are just perfect for the occasion. (p.s. if you sign up for their e-mail list you get 10% off!) These tops are no longer avalible, but I’ve included links to similar items.

What to Wear on Thanksgiving Day Outfit #1

Do you struggle with what to wear on Thanksgiving day? Does your gathering call for dressing up & perfect table settings? Is it a more casual buffet style?

Black Ruffled Top + Corduroy Pants + Agate Pendant Necklace + Leopard Flats

Do you struggle with what to wear on Thanksgiving day? Does your gathering call for dressing up & perfect table settings? Is it a more casual buffet style?

This black ruffled top feels a lot like a sweatshirt, which I love but the ruffled details are what make it really special. Pairing it up with my favorite corduroy pants seemed like a natural choice. The corduroy adds a nice texture element to the outfit and this color begs to be paired with leopard.

What to Wear on Thanksgiving Day Outfit #2

For outfit 2, I paired up this super soft slouchy off the shoulder sweater with olive pants. I have three pairs of olive jeans. They are one of my favorite closet staples. Check out how I used olive jeans for 5 fall outfits.

This sweater will also be perfect for lounging around in leggings and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. 🙂

Do you struggle with what to wear on Thanksgiving day? Does your gathering call for dressing up & perfect table settings? Is it a more casual buffet style?

The unifying element in both outfits are the agate pendant necklaces. I’m not much of an accessorizer and like to keep my outfits pretty minimalist. These necklaces are perfect for me because they make a big impact and pull the outfit together with just a single piece.

Yep, I know what you thought when you saw “off the shoulder”…the dreaded strapless bra. Off the shoulder is both sexy and sophisticated but I’ve avoided it because of the strapless until I discovered the life-changing bandeau bra!  The bandeau bra is soft and comfy and doesn’t dig in like a regular strapless.

If you can’t bring yourself to do any type of strapless, this lace bralette is a pretty alternative.  The straps can show on this and it adds a little delicate detail to the look.

I Feel Pretty French Minimalist – Moto Jacket and Stripes

I Feel Pretty French Minimalist – Moto Jacket and Stripes

In Monday’s post I showed you two ways I’m pairing up my new black moto jacket.  One of those flat lays was completely inspired by the GYPO French Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe.  I’ve been dying to create one of those outfits but the missing piece to the puzzle was the right moto jacket – which is now all mine!

The date night flat lay outfit from that post is what I actually wore on a date that Craig and I went on last weekend.  We tried out a new restaurant called Sixty Vines and it became an instant favorite.  They had me at wine on tap and cheese boards – I can’t wait to go back!

Moto Jacket + Striped Top + Distressed Jeans + Ankle Boots

My exact moto jacket, ankle boots and accessories are linked up below.  My jeans are sold out but this also looks cute with my favorite super soft jeans.
