Nine Casual Fall Outfits to Copy and Try

Nine Casual Fall Outfits to Copy and Try

Hallelujah!  It is FINALLY starting to feel like fall in north Texas.  My husband hauled my crate full of fall clothes out of storage for me and I’ve started my quarterly closet cleanse to decide what stays, what goes and what needs to be replaced or updated.

Pulling a past season’s clothing out makes me a wee bit nostalgic.  I start thinking about ways that I’ve paired up those pieces into outfits and where I wore them the previous year.  It’s a fashionable trip down memory lane!

Today, I’m showing you nine of my favorite fall outfits from years past featuring pieces that I’ll be wearing again this year.  I’d love it if you would copy them and try them yourself.  If you do, be sure to snap a selfie and tag me on Instagram.

1.  Boyfriend Cardigan + T-Shirt + Plaid Scarf + Ankle Jeans + Colorful Flats

What I Love About This Outfit:  The teal shoes are just the right pop of color and I love how they complement the mustard yellow in the cardigan.  The plaid scarf ties it all together.

2.  Tunic Sweater + Leather Look Leggings + Leopard Flats

What I Love About This Outfit: Besides being the ultimate in comfort, it features one of my favorite combos – cobalt blue and leopard.  The leather look leggings add just the right amount of trendy edge.

3.  Striped T-shirt + Quilted Vest + Leopard Scarf + Black Jeans + Riding Boots

What I Love About This Outfit: Everything!  The stripes, the leopard, the quilted vest, the riding boots.  This is one of my go-to favorite outfit combos for everything from fall festivals to football games.

4.  Lightweight Sweater + Plaid Vest + Skinny Jeans + Cowboy Boots

What I Love About This Outfit: This is my first pair of cowboy boots I’ve ever owned and now I try to wear them as much as possible.  The plaid puffer vest is perfect for cool days in Texas that aren’t yet cold enough for a winter coat.

5.  Striped T-shirt + Polka Dot Scarf + Wrap + Black Jeans + Riding Boots

6.  Yellow T-shirt + Boyfriend Cardigan + Floral Scarf + White Jeans + Riding Boots

What I Love About This Outfit: The fabulous fall scarf is the star of the show.  This outfit is great for warmer fall days when a top layer is not necessary.

My Fall Shopping Wish List

Although I’m pretty happy with the state of my closet right now, there are a few things I’d like to pick up.  Here are some of the things on my fall shopping wish list.

Old Navy

This open front wool blend poncho comes in four different colors but I’m kind of partial to red.  It looks great layered with a chambray button down under it.

[Gold Flats]

These arrived last week and it was love at first wear.  They are seriously the comfiest flats I’ve ever owned.  Gold will go with everything this fall.

Loft

[Medallion Blouse]

The right blouse can be a game changer.  Every woman needs several printed blouses to be her go-to’s for anything from date night to Thanksgiving dinner.  Pair this one up with jeans, dress pants or a skirt to instantly make an outfit.

[Flare Jeans]

If you’re not on it yet, then it’s time to hop on the flared jeans bandwagon.  They’re back in a big way this fall.  Pair them with a slight heel for mile long legs.

[Fall Stone Necklace]

This pretty harvest hued necklace makes a great substitution for a fall scarf.  It perfectly ties together the colors in your autumn outfits.

Five Fall Fashion Trends Every Mom Can Wear + How to Wear Them

Five Fall Fashion Trends Every Mom Can Wear + How to Wear Them

Today’s post is a two-fer because I’m dishing on my five favorite fall trends and showing you ways that you can turn them into everyday real world outfits.  But first, I have a quick little video for you.

One of the questions I get asked most often is “How do you decide which trends to include in the GYPO Style Challenge?”

The honest answer is, it’s somewhat of a process.

In this video, I’m giving some insight into the process that I use to translate runway trends into real everyday wearable outfits for moms (like you and me!) and how I pick which trends get included on the list.

Here are five of my favorite fall trends and ways that you can turn them into everyday real world outfits.

Five Fall Fashion Trends + How to Wear Them

1.  Tone on Tone

Wearing tone on tone is a beautiful way to stay on trend and it’s easier than you think. Let the color wheel be your guide.  Choose a top and bottom in lighter and darker shades of the same color. For instance, burgundy with blush pink, violet with lavender or peacock blue with baby blue.

Try the Trend:  Tie your tone on tone look together with a pretty scarf.

2.  Plaid

Plaid is a perennial fall favorite and a classic way to add some pattern to your outfit. If the thought of wearing plaid conjures up images of lumberjacks, just remember a dash is all it takes to spice up your look. Try the trend with a plaid scarf, shoes or a belt.

Try the Trend:  Jazz up your chambray shirt and black jeans with a fun plaid scarf in an unexpected color like orange.

Day-3

3.  Moto Jackets

Add a little edge and warmth to your outfit with a trendy moto jacket for fall.  If black is too harsh, chose one in cognac or a lighter color.

Try the Trend:  Replace your blazer or cardigan with a moto jacket.  Layer it over a printed blouse with jeans and ankle boots.

4.  Texture Mixing

Pattern and print mixing has been all the rage the past few years. This fall it’s all about texture mixing. Combine different textures to add interest to your outfits.

Try the Trend:  Pair up a gray cable knit sweater with skinny cords in off-white.  Finish it off with a pair of burgundy ankle boots.

5.  Floral

Typically a spring and summer trend, florals are now making their mark on fall.

Try the Trend: Look for a scarf with autumnal tones like rust, burgundy, mustard, vermillion, plum or ochre.  Use it for inspiration to pair up unlikely color combinations.

Pretty Fix: The October List

Pretty Fix: The October List

Hey pretties!  It’s time for another Pretty Fix but first a quick story behind this month’s inspiration.  Craig and I just got back from a little getaway to Mexico last week.  I had some business meetings there and we tacked on a few extra days for some R&R.  Here’s a pic of us before dinner one night.

As we were walking through the Cancun airport on our way home, Craig spied a colorful Mexican poncho and joked that he was going to buy one.  My first thought was that it could be great for fall – just not on him!

So, of course when I got home, I started researching ponchos to find one for this month’s Pretty Fix.

The Pretty Fix is a monthly feature at Get Your Pretty On that features my top five picks for the month that you can shop for on your own to stay in style at a price you’ll love. The idea for it was born out of frustration that some of you have had with other monthly box services that you feel “miss the mark” or are too pricey.

Each month, the Pretty Fix includes five affordable items that I personally recommend to stay on trend.

Want to know the best part? You can buy everything in the monthly fix for around $100.

Consider me your budget-minded personal shopper. Here’s your October Pretty Fix.

Pretty-Fix-October-2015

OCTOBER PRETTY FIX TOTAL = $96.88

1. Poncho – $16

So it’s not exactly colorful like the Mexican versions but this one is really versatile.  Ponchos and wraps are my favorite way to add a layer of warmth when it’s not quite cold enough for a coat.  If you’re looking for more color, here’s another option.

2. Burgundy Satchel – $29.99

There’s a good reason why a burgundy purse is on the shopping list for the Fall 2015 GYPO Style Challenge.  It looks great with everything!  If burgundy is not your thing, this bag comes in six other colors including red, black, brown, coffee, beige and olive green.

3. Printed Socks – $5

We’re heading into the time of the year where bare ankles need some cozy socks.  Printed pairs are perfect for peeking out above your favorite ankle boots.  This five pack has some great colors/patterns.

4. Gray Jeans – $32

Gray jeans are a neutral that you’re going to love for fall.  Pair them up with Marsala, Pantone’s color of the year to be totally on trend.

5. Berry Lip Gloss – $5.89

If heavy lipsticks aren’t your thing, color your pout with this lightweight translucent gel lip color in this season’s hottest color.

It’s Your Turn: What will you be adding to your wardrobe to stay on trend this month?

Jump Start Your Day with a “Super” Step to Better Skin

Jump Start Your Day with a “Super” Step to Better Skin

What are some ways you jump start your day? I have a daily routine that gets me going every morning. My coffee brews at 6:00 a.m. I brush my teeth then sit down to have two cups while planning out my day. After that, I wash my face and apply an SPF moisturizer to get prepared for my morning walk with our golden retriever Bailey. Bailey refuses to allow me to skip her favorite part of the day! Lately I’ve been adding in one extra step to my skincare routine. I already know what you’re thinking, “one more step, am I not already doing enough?” I don’t know about you but I’m willing to go the extra mile and applying another product first that boosts the effectiveness of my other skincare products is totally worth it! OK, so you know that the surface of your skin is directly linked to how radiant, healthy and youthful your skin looks, right? When your skin’s surface layer is damaged, it loses its natural defense to protect itself. It also loses its ability to retain moisture and renew itself. Each morning when I’m out in the sun and elements for our daily walk, you better believe defending my facial skin is always on my mind. Recently I’ve been using a new product, Elizabeth Arden’s SUPERSTART Skin Renewal Booster as my first step before applying any moisturizer or serum. It works holistically to restore the healthy look of your skin’s surface layer by helping its natural ability to repair and renew. You can use it before ANY moisturizer or serum and it helps to boost the effectiveness of your other skincare products.

Here are a few great reasons to try SUPERSTART:

1. It boosts your skin’s natural defenses. A probiotic complex optimizes skin’s microflora to strengthen its natural defenses.

2. It boosts your skin’s ability to renew by enhancing moisturization and hydration.

3. It boosts the effectiveness of your skincare products. By optimizing your skin’s surface layer it ultimately ensures the skin is more responsive to all products in your regimen, and your skincare delivers stronger results. 95% of women agree that SUPERSTART boosts the effectiveness of their skincare products.* 92% of women agree that SUPERSTART helps repair the look and feel of damaged or irritated skin.** 82% of women agree that SUPERSTART makes their skin more resilient and resistant to irritation and damage.**

SUPERSTART Skin Renewal Booster is available at EA.com, Macy’s.com and Nordstrom.com.
