I Feel Pretty | Texan

I Feel Pretty | Texan

For this month’s Mother/Daughter Style post, Cavender’s outfitted the girls and me with some western wear.  Yee haw!  If you don’t know Cavender’s then you don’t know western wear.  They are a family-owned retailer started in 1957 and are synonymous with the well-dressed Texan.

Even though I’ve lived in Texas for the past (almost) eighteen years, I was raised in Pennsylvania.  Western wear was all new to me when I moved here.  At my first job out of college, I got invited to go country line dancing (out of body experience) and then to my first western-themed charity event.  The tight jeans, cowboy boots and western shirts were like something out of a movie!

Fast forward to today and I’m totally comfortable rocking my own pair of cowgirl boots.  I love how Cavender’s offers modern western wear, like the skirts and jeans we’re wearing in today’s post, along with more traditional items.

The girls and I were easily able to find cute outfits with a fun bit of western flair.

DAILY STYLE DIARY

Now on to last week’s Daily Style Diary outfits posted on Instagram.  There is only one word to describe this past week…BLESSED!  I had the opportunity to speak about spring fashion to 150 moms on Wednesday and Thursday at my home church, Chase Oaks.  It was so much fun meeting them and sharing ways to stay out of the mom rut and get our pretty on.  We also had an impromptu spring trends fashion show.

On Friday, Redbook featured my floral trends for spring on their web site and shared it on social media.  This was my first feature with them as a Team Red contributor and I couldn’t have been more excited.  Be sure to check it out HERE.

Here’s what I wore last week.

MONDAY

I spent the day catching up on errands and housework.

WEDNESDAY

For the first day of my speaking engagement, I combined a lot of my favorite things to create this outfit.  I have a whole new level of respect for those who speak for a living because it’s not easy!

THURSDAY

On the second day I went a little more casual with my denim jacket, striped coral top and mint jeans.  The shoes were quite a hit on Instagram, unfortunately they are sold out but I also love this pair of floral wedges.

We spent the entire day cleaning out our attic and garage to get ready for our community yard sale over the weekend.

I’m in love with these new cute kicks from Target.  They’re ON SALE now for just $12.  I’m ordering a pair in white today.  They’re so comfortable and go with everything!

LIFE LATELY

032814-life-latelySnippets from our day to day.

  • I wish I was cool enough to pretend like it’s no big deal to be mentioned in the same tweet as Alison Sweeney and Tracy Reese.  But I’m not!  Actually I might have squealed in the middle of dinner at Chili’s when I saw this.
  • Devon’s graduation announcements arrived this week.  It’s getting really real now!  He’s still not decided on his college but is getting closer.  We’re hoping he gives us an answer by the end of the week. (Fingers crossed!)
  • We opened the patio and porches back up for business this weekend.  I found these super cute outdoor pillows at Ross for only $5.99-$9.99 each!  I’ll post pics of the finished product when we get our flowers planted.
  • Both of our girls had artwork on display at our school district’s Celebrate the Arts festival.  We went to the art show with my parents last weekend.

It’s Your Turn:  Is it getting any more spring-like in your neck of the woods?  Tell me in the comments!

Now onto today’s Casual Chic Outfit Basic – The Neutral Purse.

What’s your purse personality?  Are you a girl that needs to have the latest “it” bag?  Or do you carry the same one every year?  Do you invest in purses for the long haul or opt to buy something trendy that can be switched every season?

I’m not a girl that needs to have the latest “it” bag nor am I someone willing to pay thousands of dollars for a purse.  But I do like a good quality bag and I will pay for quality any day.  I also don’t switch out my purse with my outfits.  That’s just too fussy for my day to day.  So it’s really important for me to choose a well-made bag of a decent size, that will hold up well and go with virtually everything.

Thankfully there’s a bag that fits the bill really well for all of my criteria – a neutral purse.  It goes with absolutely everything and looks great season after season.  Plus, if it’s a well-made quality piece, it can last for many years.

Just check out how chic it looks with everything.

A Handbag for All Seasons – The Neutral Purse

[1/2/3/4]

I understand that many of you may not be in a position to invest in bags though and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.  There are so many affordable cute options out there that it may not be necessary.  Here are some great options under $100.

[Jessica Simpson Hadley]

[ALDO Reiten in Bone]

[Mossimo Satchel Bag in Ivory]

[Merona Interweave Hobo]

Here are some nice options in the $150-$200 range.

[Ava Dome Satchel]

[Coach Bleecker]

[Cole Haan Convertible Cross Body Bag]

[Rebecca Minkoff Amourous Satchel]

For the past three years, I’ve carried this Dooney & Bourke bag more than any other.  It’s probably the most well-made bag I’ve ever owned.  The natural color also gets prettier the longer you carry it.  The color looks orange in this photo, it’s actually more of a light brown.

The smaller version is beautiful in this bone color.

[Dooney & Bourke Florentine Small Satchel]

Here are some other well-made neutral bags in the investment category.

[DKNY Gansevoort Quilted Nappa Satchel]

[Cole Haan Berkley Satchel]

WINK & WINN

My new favorite bag, the one I designed with Wink & Winn is also neutral but with a fun twist.

wink-and-winn-purse[c/o Wink & Winn]

I’ve been promising you guys a review of this company and the process of ordering this bag since I debuted it on the blog last week.  Even if you don’t order a bag with them, I’d highly recommend playing around with creating different combos just for fun.  My girls and I entertained ourselves for hours doing this!

Step 1 – You get to determine the shape of your bag.  There are nine different styles to choose from.  I selected the large duffle bag.

Step 2 – This is the fun part, designing your bag. You get to create your bag from a choice of 49 colors and 6 horsehair options.  Literally every aspect of your bag is customizable.  The possibilities are endless!  You also get to choose the lining color and if you want gold, gunmetal or silver hardware.

Step 3 – After designing your bag (BTW – it took me days to make my final decision), you have the option of adding customization like  s personalized tag.

Because each bag is custom made it takes up to 8 weeks for delivery.  The cool part is they send you a photo of your bag during the process so you can get an idea of what it’s going to look like.

Sneak peek

It turned out even prettier than I imagined it would.  It’s great quality all around and such a perfect reflection of my personality.  Every time I carry it, I’ve gotten compliments.  It’s really unique and I love that about it.  It is an investment but I’d highly recommend subscribing to Wink & Winn’s newsletter as they do have great sales and run specials periodically.  They recently did a 50% off sale on all styles!

It’s Your Turn:  So what is your purse personality?  Tell me in the comments!

Spring Trends | Fresh Florals in Blue

Spring Trends | Fresh Florals in Blue

I don’t know about you but I’m insanely happy that floral prints are back in a big way for spring.  They really look fresh when paired up with everything from stripes to polka dots and denim to dresses.

There also seems to be a trend toward florals in shades of blue for spring.  From robin’s egg to cobalt, blue backgrounds are great for showcasing the pretty reds, pinks and yellows in this season’s flowery frocks.

Here are some pretty pieces perfect for spring.

Casual Chic Outfit Basics | The Statement Necklace

Casual Chic Outfit Basics | The Statement Necklace

This week’s casual chic outfit basic is a no-brainer and something you probably already have – a statement necklace.

If I’m being honest, this is a trend that took me awhile to get on the bandwagon with.  Scarves, yes.  Statement necklaces, hmm…

I always felt over embellished when I wore one, somewhat like a tacky Christmas tree.  But then I discovered that simplicity is key.  Keep the rest of your look super simple and let the necklace do what it does best – make a statement.

Here are some really simple looks I love, made special by the addition of a stunning statement necklace.

[1/2/3]

And I absolutely ADORE this outfit combo for spring and summer!

Even though it took me awhile to warm up to the trend, I have worn it a few times.

My favorite statement necklace of all time is my Kendra Scott ‘Rayne’.  It goes with every single thing in my closet.

[Kendra Scott ‘Rayne’ in Mother of Pearl]

Of course, I wore it when I met Kendra, who is sweetest, most down to earth person ever!

I would love to have it in a few more colors for summer, like this pretty teal.

[Kendra Scott ‘Rayne’ in Teal]

Here’s a short, affordable option with some fun colors.

[Teal, Cobalt and Yellow Necklace]

It also comes in coral and pink.

[Coral and Pink Necklace]

This one would dress up a basic t-shirt or tank top for summer.

[Cluster Necklace]

And white would go with just about anything.

[White Cluster Necklace]

[Gold and White Gem Necklace]

If you want to really stand out, this has you covered.

[Medallion Marvel Necklace]

This one comes in FIVE different color combos and it’s ON SALE for 33% off!

[Cara Stone Bib Necklace]

[Leith ‘Boho’ Beaded Necklace]

This wins the award for all-around perfect.

[Cara Couture Statement Necklace]
