Spring Trend Collaboration | Pastels

Spring Trend Collaboration | Pastels

Today is the day that I’m collaborating with this fabulous group of fashion bloggers to bring you our favorite spring trends.  Be sure to pop over to check out spring looks from Jo-Lynne from Musings of a Housewife, Kilee from One Little Momma, Cyndi from Walking in Grace and Beauty and Allison from Two Thirty-Five Designs.

But before that, let’s talk about spring trends for a minute.   There are SO many trends that I’m loving this spring, it was really hard to choose just one to style.  Some of my favorites that were around last year, like graphic patterns and floral prints, are back again.  A few new ones have made the list too, like crop tops and sheer fabrics.  I’ll leave the styling of those to someone else who hasn’t had three kids.  You’re welcome.  🙂

I chose pastels for two reasons.  1.  They were something I wasn’t too keen to warm up to initially last year, but ended up falling head over heels for.  2.  Pastels are a trend that anyone can pull off.

Why the hesitation with pastels?  Well, I’m more of a bold, saturated color type of person.  It’s obvious in both my decorating and my closet.  The subtlety of pastels had never appealed much to me.

Then I bought my first pair of pink jeans and realized that pastels are really just a more fun version of neutrals.  They’re so versatile!  You can ground them with darker colors or pair them up with neutrals for a fresh look.  And so my love affair with pastels began…

Today I’m styling two different pairs of pastel colored jeans that I bought last year –  a minty pair and a peachy pair.  This first mint outfit is a throwback from last spring.  It was one of my favorite outfits then and will be again this season.

I Feel Pretty | Spring Throwback

I Feel Pretty | Spring Throwback

It’s a spring throwback today on GYPO.  So what exactly does that mean?  Well, it means that I’m revisiting some of my favorite spring outfits from last year.  Why?  Because I’m irked with Mother Nature after realizing that, last year at this time, we were full-fledged into spring weather.  Craig and I had our patio furniture out, we had started planting our flower beds and I was wearing open toed shoes again.

But not this year.  No, I’m still waiting to put away my riding boots and beginning to wonder if it’s ever going to get and stay warm.

The good news is that I’ve gotten plenty of outfit ideas from last year’s looks.  Most of these trends are here to stay for another year and you’d better believe that I’ll be wearing them again.

Here are five of my favorite looks from last spring.

1.  Military Jacket and Boyfriend Jeans

[Jacket:  Caslon/Jeans:  Gap/T-shirt:  Similar/Shoes:  Steve Madden]

2.  Denim Shirt and Maxi Skirt

Spring Break Recap + Daily Style Diary

Hey pretties, it feels like an eternity but I’m finally back!  Spring break week was amazing.  It was low key but just perfect.  We had a lot more of what this family desperately needs – unscheduled time to just “be”.  Here’s a photo recap from our week.

The week started with bad weather, so we stayed in and played many rounds of Uno – a.k.a. the game that never ends.  🙂

On Monday, we had gorgeous weather.  We went to the lake with my parents.  Fished all day but never got a bite.  Oh well, at least we enjoyed the great weather and an outdoor picnic.

Tuesday we took a college visit road trip with Devon.  We made a stop at the university’s equine center.  Ava was smitten with the foals.  They loved her right back.

The weekend brought a quick getaway with my parents, sister and brother-in-law to a family friend’s ranch deep in the heart of Texas.  (Go ahead, sing the song.  You know you want to.)

We went four wheeling, hunted hogs and did a lot of fishing.

[Back Row:  Craig and my dad, Middle Row:  Aubrey, me, my mom, my brother-in-law Victor, Front Row:  Ava and my sister Andrea]

It was so peaceful to sit on the porch swing and watch the wildlife visit this pond.

The best part of the weekend?  The girls put away their iPads in favor of fishing!  Miracles do happen.

Their persistence paid off.  Aubrey caught this nice bass.

And Ava caught her first fish too.  She was a little scared of it.  🙂

There were 800+ acres to explore with plenty of cattle, deer and other wildlife.

We drove into the small town nearby for dinner each evening.

Craig had a little too much fun playing “cowboy”.

The owners caught this wild baby hog and brought it to show to the girls.  It was adorable!  Too bad they grow up to be so destructive.

Of course Ava found a horse’s neck to hug on.  :)All in all the week couldn’t have been any better.  Back to reality this week but we’re all refreshed, recharged and ready to go.

DAILY STYLE DIARY

Even though it seems like a lifetime ago, here are the week before last’s Daily Style Diary outfits that were posted on Instagram.

Monday

We had an ice storm so the kids got a day off school.  This comfy outfit was perfect for a day at home.

[Sweater:  Similar/Tank:  Mossimo/Jeans:  Wit & Wisdom/Boots:  UGG/Scarf:  Similar]

Tuesday

One of my favorite things about spring is wearing my coral trench coat.  I wore this for lunch with a friend.

[Trench:  Similar/Scarf:  Sold Out/Jeans:  Paige/Boots:  Frye]

Wednesday

Barn day!  Aubrey made fun of this outfit.  She said the yoga jacket didn’t go with the rest of it.  Oh well, I was comfortable and kept me warm during Ava’s riding lesson.

[Jacket:  Similar/Top:  Loft/Jeans:  J. Brand/Boots:  Hunter]

Thursday

Gray and yellow is one of my favorite outfit combos.  This was a good base for my new yellow trench coat.

[Sweater:  Nordstrom Rack/Jeans:  Wit & Wisdom/Scarf:  Sold Out]

Friday

Yay!  My pink popover arrived from Target.  Of course, I couldn’t wait to wear it.  Boden sent me this adorable floral scarf on the same day – a mailbox match made in heaven.

Casual Chic Outfit Basics | Recap

TGIF!  We’re still enjoying our spring break fun so there won’t be a new casual chic outfit basic introduced this week, but I do have a great one planned for next Friday.  In the meantime, if you missed any of the five weeks in this series so far, now’s a great time to get caught up!

Week 3 – The Power Scarf

Week 2 – A Great Pair of Riding Boots

Week 1 – Dark Wash Skinny Jeans

AT HOME YOGA WORKOUT

Totally unrelated but if you’re looking for a great at-home yoga workout, my dear friend and yoga instructor Joseph has an awesome series of power yoga DVD’s that WILL get you in shape.  These are the ones that I use at home and I highly recommend them!

They are pretty challenging so start out with DVD 1 – Full Body Workout if you haven’t been on the mat for awhile.

Have a great weekend!  I’ll be back on Tuesday with the Daily Style Diary recap post and pictures from our spring break.  See you then!

I Feel Pretty | Moroccan Dreaming

I Feel Pretty | Moroccan Dreaming

Happy spring break to those of you that are enjoying it this week!  If you missed Monday’s post, I’m taking a few days off to spend with the kids. Although I won’t be answering comments, the I Feel Pretty link party is still a go.

We’ve had a few days of spring-like weather here this week.  Of course, they’re just a total tease as the temperatures dropped back down today.  Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Today, I’m dreaming of spring in this Moroccan Dreams dress from Simple Southern Style.  I’m kind of obsessed with Moroccan patterns and the color orange, so a piece that combines both is pretty close to perfect.  This dress is really versatile and would look just as cute with a pair of embellished flat sandals for a dressed down look.

One of the things I miss most about no longer working in an office is not getting to dress up.  Our church is even pretty casual.  That’s why I love styling pieces that let me get gussied up for the blog.  But I could definitely wear this outfit in real life for Easter, a spring wedding or a graduation.
