November 12, 2014 - Easy Outfits, I Feel Pretty, Style

Olive, Black, Leopard and Stripes

When I wear outfits like today’s, our 10 year-old horse lover Ava gives me a hard time and calls me a want-to-be equestrian.  She’s partially right.  I love equestrian style, especially riding boots.  But, truth be told, I’m scared to death of horses.  They are massive, unpredictable beasts that I have a healthy respect for.  Both of the times that I’ve dared to get on the back of one, the horse took advantage of my fear and had a little fun with it.  Once by taking me back to the barn, the other by refusing to move.  I preferred the second time but still, I won’t be riding again anytime soon.  🙂

Here’s Ava, our little hunter jumper.  She’s WAY braver than me.

And here’s my non-horse-riding equestrian-influenced style.

Equestrian style is so classic. I saw that jodhpurs are coming back in style as well…

You look like you would be a natural on a horse : ) Funny that you’re not.

    • I love your photo on here Amy Ann! Stripes!

Love the olive with the leopard scarf! But I am really loving the striped cardigan in the winter challenge promo…..will you share where that is from? I always get disappointed when things are sold out in my size…..trying to get a jump start:)

  • Carol

I have always been told that because I am short I should not wear contrasting colors as you have here. (brown boots, black slacks, white shirt, green jacket) I was wondering how you would change this outfit for someone 5 ft tall?

    • Hi Carol! I’m not too much over 5 ft. This could work for you too. But if you wanted to elongate your legs, just swap out the cognac boots for a pair of black boots.

  • Perfect fall outfit! Your daughter is so adorable and looking pretty amazing on that horse. Horses really scare me too.

P.S. Hope you stop by Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.

    • I’m glad there’s others that are scared of horses too! I’ll gladly watch them from a distance. 🙂

  • Love the leopard with the stripes! I’m a big fan of these earthy tones. Great classic look. ~Cynthia

    • I can’t get over how beautiful the olive color goes with everything. I’m a little obsessed.

  • Awww you got one adorable equestrian in Ava – and you’re wearing the perfect look for it!!! Come check out my feature/review on Boden’s brand new active/yoga wear this week & lemme know what you think!!

    • Thanks Rebecca. I’ll check it out!

  • Trang

What size is your striped shirt? Reading the reviews, the sleeves are tight and a lot of reviewers say the shirt is too short. Do you find that to be true? I don’t mind it being short, I prefer it that way since I am only 4 11″

    • Hi Trang! I’m wearing a size small. There’s a lot of stretch in it and I find the length to be just right at 5’4″.

  • I can’t believe I don’t have a leopard print scarf or a green puff vest yet!! I really love how you styled these with the navy striped shirt (which I do have!). Great outfit, looking fab!

    • You should get both Carrie! They are so much fun to put pieces together. You will LOVE them! Everyone needs a little leopard. 😉

  • Such a pretty look! This is pretty much my winter uniform, although I swap out the shirt for a sweater most days. Can’t wait for the Winter Challenge!

    • So glad you will be joining the Winter Challenge Lana!

  • Great pattern mixing, I really like the stripes and leopard print together! I also love your vest and those boots you are wearing..very casual chic!

    • Thank you, thank you!

  • You pull off the equestrian so well, looks great on you!! How adorable and brave is your daughter, so sweet:)

    • Ava is my inspiration. 🙂

  • What a beautiful fall look on you. I love that you added the leopard scarf.

Hope you have an amazing day.

Found your blog just as the fall challenge started and I have to say you are amazing! Your style is everyday but kicked up a notch. After todays post I guess I know why… I too am around horses and the associated activities. In fact, cowgirl boots and boot cut jeans are my go to items. Thank you for being you and making me feel pretty.

    • That makes me happy Denise! I am thrilled you find GYPO!

  • Courtney Mac

Oh my word- I love your vest. I went with an Old Navy one last year and have never really liked it- too boxy. I may keep that one from Kohls in mind, though! You are gorge, as usual!

    • You are too sweet friend!

  • Your daughter is so cute! Love your outfit … perfect for watching from the sidelines:)

    • Thank you Ginnie! Perfect support outfit! 😉

  • Thanks for hosting! I’m over here getting my pretty on, girl! ha ha

    • Have a great Thursday Lisa!

  • Lisa D

    Hi Allison-
I’m new to your blog and I love this outfit! Does the striped shirt have black stripes? Love the scarf! My daughter started riding when she was 3 1/2 and stopped once she turned 10. She’s now 13 and I kinda miss it :-). I used to ride was I was younger too. Our entire family (5 of us) went to the Bahamas last year and we participated in the horse back riding on he beach! It was fabulous! I hadn’t been on a horse in probably 20 years and it was great…..a little scary but still fun! My teenage boys had never been on a horse and my husband only 1x prior! Anyway, I understand your fear…they can be unpredictable but still amazing creatures! Anyway, have a blessed day 😉

    • Lisa, yes the striped shirt has black stripes. So fun, Bahamas horse back riding on the beach? Sounds magical! Have a beautiful Thursday!

  • Haha so funny 🙂 She is totally braver than me too! I’ve only dared get on a horse a few times myself. Love your equestrian inspired look though! Awesome pattern mixing 🙂

    • Thanks Jessi. I’ve been inspired by the equestrian style for awhile now. It’s one of my favorites!
