Olive, Black, Leopard and Stripes

When I wear outfits like today’s, our 10 year-old horse lover Ava gives me a hard time and calls me a want-to-be equestrian.  She’s partially right.  I love equestrian style, especially riding boots.  But, truth be told, I’m scared to death of horses.  They are massive, unpredictable beasts that I have a healthy respect for.  Both of the times that I’ve dared to get on the back of one, the horse took advantage of my fear and had a little fun with it.  Once by taking me back to the barn, the other by refusing to move.  I preferred the second time but still, I won’t be riding again anytime soon.  🙂

Here’s Ava, our little hunter jumper.  She’s WAY braver than me.

And here’s my non-horse-riding equestrian-influenced style.

Your daughter looks great up on that horse.

Equestrian style is so classic. I saw that jodhpurs are coming back in style as well…

You look like you would be a natural on a horse : ) Funny that you’re not.

Love the olive with the leopard scarf! But I am really loving the striped cardigan in the winter challenge promo…..will you share where that is from? I always get disappointed when things are sold out in my size…..trying to get a jump start:)

I have always been told that because I am short I should not wear contrasting colors as you have here. (brown boots, black slacks, white shirt, green jacket) I was wondering how you would change this outfit for someone 5 ft tall?

    • Alison

Hi Carol! I’m not too much over 5 ft. This could work for you too. But if you wanted to elongate your legs, just swap out the cognac boots for a pair of black boots.

What size is your striped shirt? Reading the reviews, the sleeves are tight and a lot of reviewers say the shirt is too short. Do you find that to be true? I don’t mind it being short, I prefer it that way since I am only 4 11″

    • Alison

Hi Trang! I’m wearing a size small. There’s a lot of stretch in it and I find the length to be just right at 5’4″.

I can’t believe I don’t have a leopard print scarf or a green puff vest yet!! I really love how you styled these with the navy striped shirt (which I do have!). Great outfit, looking fab!

Found your blog just as the fall challenge started and I have to say you are amazing! Your style is everyday but kicked up a notch. After todays post I guess I know why… I too am around horses and the associated activities. In fact, cowgirl boots and boot cut jeans are my go to items. Thank you for being you and making me feel pretty.

Oh my word- I love your vest. I went with an Old Navy one last year and have never really liked it- too boxy. I may keep that one from Kohls in mind, though! You are gorge, as usual!

    Hi Allison-
I’m new to your blog and I love this outfit! Does the striped shirt have black stripes? Love the scarf! My daughter started riding when she was 3 1/2 and stopped once she turned 10. She’s now 13 and I kinda miss it :-). I used to ride was I was younger too. Our entire family (5 of us) went to the Bahamas last year and we participated in the horse back riding on he beach! It was fabulous! I hadn’t been on a horse in probably 20 years and it was great…..a little scary but still fun! My teenage boys had never been on a horse and my husband only 1x prior! Anyway, I understand your fear…they can be unpredictable but still amazing creatures! Anyway, have a blessed day 😉
