I know, I know. Payday Pretty is *supposed* to be about taking twenty bucks a week out of the family budget to buy something pretty for yourself. And I’m *supposed* to be providing you with $20 and under inspiration to do just that.
But this week, I’m feeling a little rebellious and decided to switch it up a bit.
So what’s this splurge-worthy stuff all about?
My definition of a splurge might be a little different than yours. I rarely buy an item over $50. Call me a tightwad or frugal or whatever, the fact is that’s my upper limit on just about everything – with a few glaring exceptions.
Some of those exceptions include purses, shoes and jeans. Quality items that stand the test of time sometimes require loosening up the purse strings a little. If I run a quick cost per wear analysis and an item makes sense, then I don’t mind shelling out extra.
Below is a list of some splurge-worthy items that I’ve bought this past year. I’ve worn them over and over and over and they have been worth every single penny.
I bought this purse last fall as soon as it came out and I still ADORE it. The color is perfect and it gets even more beautiful the longer I carry it. This bag gets compliments on a weekly basis. I have no plans of switching it out anytime soon.
Every woman should have one great fitting pair of jeans. Premium denim brands tend to hold up a lot longer and fit much better than cheaper brands. These Hudson jeans have a mid-rise and the perfect amount of stretch. Since I live in jeans, I never feel guilty for spending a little more on them.
My hubby bought me a classic crewneck cashmere sweater last Christmas. Somehow I felt a little richer every time I wore it! Cashmere may be a luxury but in a casual style like this, it works great for every day.
These were the first item on my Christmas list this year. I’ve been waiting patiently for the perfect pair of cognac riding boots, and this is it. These boots have often been imitated but there’s just nothing like the real thing. And I will wear them for many, many years.
It’s Your Turn: What are some of your splurge-worthy favorites? Tell me in the comments!
Hey pretties! GYPO is celebrating our sixth anniversary this month and what a wild ride it’s been. From it’s early beginnings chronicling my style journey out of my own yoga pants rut to growing into a resource for women worldwide to rediscover style, it has surpassed even my wildest dreams. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t pinch myself that I get to do meaningful work that I love – and do it with all of you!
A lot has changed in these six years for me personally too. Our son Devon graduated high school and is in his last semester of college, our daughter Aubrey is off to school at TCU in her sophomore year and our youngest Ava is now 14 and just started high school. It’s hard to believe that my kids grew up (and two flew the nest!) along with the blog.
It goes without saying (but I’m saying it anyway) that the GYPO community has been the absolute BEST part of this entire journey. Honestly I didn’t know that such a kind, supportive sisterhood could develop online and I’m eternally grateful to all of you for this.
Our year ahead is ushering in a new chapter in the GYPO journey that I can’t wait to share with you today. I’m sure you’ve already noticed quite a few new changes around GYPO these past few months. For one, our web site has gotten a fresh, beautiful makeover.
In parallel I’ve been slowly making changes behind the scenes too. Together with Team GYPO (yes, we have a whole amazing team now and they’re the best team on planet Earth!) we’ve updated our mission to serve you better. As GYPO has grown it has become about so much more than me and my outfits and has become about you, the GYPO community!
While I will continue to share my own outfits and updates, the blog is a great place to feature our awesome community of Pretties and provide more resources to help you look and feel great. We are doing this by bringing you new features like the “Yes, You Can Wear” and “Style Your Size” posts and helping you shop smarter with our popular new monthly feature “Style Your Budget”. You’ll be seeing posts from new voices on the blog in the next couple of months and I couldn’t be more excited. Don’t worry, I’ll still be around but if you want to see more of the latest Lumbatis family adventures, you can follow along on my personal Instagram.
We also have a few ways that YOU can be involved in the upcoming changes. Choose any or all of them below!

It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Whether it’s a new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup, the I Feel Pretty link up is about anything and everything that makes your life prettier. Even if you’re not a blogger, you can still play along. Just tell us what made you feel pretty this week in the comments.
One of my main motivations behind GYPO is to make style easier, So naturally, when a few of you reached out lately to ask me to make your back to school shopping easier, I was more than happy to oblige.
Today I’m teaming up with one of my personal favorite stores J. Crew Factory to bring you 8 mix and match back to school outfits for girls created from just 12 pieces! I’m totally a #factorygirl in every sense. It’s one of the few places where the whole family can walk in and get on-trend pieces and great classic items that are high quality and affordable. My two daughters helped put these outfits together and were quite honestly a little jealous that they no longer fit into girls’ sizes!
I had a blast creating this mini capsule wardrobe of “wear it now” and “wear it later” outfits that will help your little lady transition into fall in style. These outfits easily transition from the playground to birthday parties and everything in between. Don’t worry – I haven’t forgotten about your little guys! There will be a post coming for them next.
Did you know that teachers and college students get an extra 15% off purchase with a valid ID? Just click here to verify eligibility and you’re good to go!

Big thanks to J. Crew Factory for sponsoring this post and making it easy and affordable to send our kids back to school in style!

We’re back with a second edition of Style Your Budget. If you missed it last month, Style Your Budget shows you one outfit prompt styled at five drastically different price points.
One of the things that makes Style Challenges work so well is that we don’t provide you the clothes. That may sound like a bad thing at first, but we promise it isn’t. By providing you with a style prompt rather than a box of clothes, you get to decide what the outfit ultimately looks like (and how much it costs).
If you already own all the pieces in the prompt you can shop your closet for a free outfit. Woohoo! However, if you need to fill in a gap in your wardrobe you get to choose which store, and more importantly how much you are going to spend, to fill in that gap.
We always recommend investing in the best quality that your budget allows when it comes to your closet staples. However, if you are trying out new trends, fluctuating between sizes, or need a more budget conscious option we hope this post has helped you see that you truly can feel confident in what you are wearing no matter where you shop or how much you can afford to spend.
It’s Your Turn: What version of the outfit was your favorite?

If you follow my personal Instagram, you already know that our older daughter Aubrey is heading to Texas Christian University this fall.
She was going to stay at community college another year but made a last minute decision to apply for transfer to TCU. Not only did she end up getting in, but she got a scholarship too! Needless to say, these past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of activity with finding her an apartment and getting ready for her move in a couple of weeks. I’m not quite sure the reality of it has hit either one of us yet! Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because when it hits me, look out! #passthetissues
We just got her apartment finalized last week and she’s met her roommates. Now for the fun part – decorating her room! Her apartment is furnished so she just has to decide upon and find the decor. Decorating is one of the ways we enjoy bonding and it’s so fun having this project to get excited about!
When our son went off to his first year of college, the dorm room decorating went something like this:
Me: Texts picture of bed in a bag options.
Him: “The gray one”
Not Aubrey – she’s been working on a mood board for months! She already had her color scheme nailed down – blush pink and gray with some gold accents. We logged on to Walmart.com last week and were excited to find SO MUCH inspiration for her room! I was truly impressed with both the ideas and the amount of blog-worthy dorm room decor.
There are many inspiration rooms for guys and girls which you can check out here. The best part is that you don’t even have to leave the house to shop any of these rooms! Walmart offers free 2-day shipping on most orders of $35 or more. We also had the option of ordering online and picking items up in our local Walmart store.
Dorm Room Decor Ideas
She immediately found a few perfect pieces and we loaded up our shopping cart with goodies like this pink fuzzy pillow to add texture to her bed.
How awesome is this monogrammed gold and white accent pillow? I can’t wait to see how her monogram looks on it (which btw, is the same as my monogram, so if she ever gets sick of it…I’m just sayin’).
If she hadn’t already had some ideas in mind for decorating her dorm room, she would’ve found plenty of inspiration at Walmart.com. We both fell in love with this room!

I am so glad I was part of the Fall 2019 Style Challenge. It gave me confidence and so many great outfitt ideas. The ladies in the group were very supportive and I will defintetly be doing another challenge in the future.

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
