It’s week three of my casual chic outfit basics series and this week is all about the boyfriend cardigan. If you missed the first two weeks of basics, you can check out dark wash skinny jeans HERE and riding boots HERE.
Speaking of riding boots, let’s stop the presses for a second because my favorite ever riding boots that I wear like every day are on sale for 35% off! That’s right girls, the Frye Melissa Button Boot in cognac, my exact pair is ON SALE. I promise you, you will not regret buying these and you’ll also thank me later. 🙂 Get them now while your size is in stock!

Now back to today’s business.
Boyfriend cardigans are constantly in my outfit rotation. They’re just so versatile and really pull a whole outfit together. I wear one at least one day of every week, year-round. I may or may not even stuff one in my purse in the summer and pull it out in chilly restaurants and grocery stores. My kids call me a little old grandma for doing that. That’s ok because I’m warm!
Here are some ways that I’ve paired them up recently.
In each of the outfits above, I’m wearing my favorite Mossimo boyfriend cardigans from Target. The pickings are slim online but they have a few left in some fun colors. I usually try to pick up a few new ones each season when all of the colors are in stock.

This week I decided to have a little fun with my boyfriend cardigans and pair them up in some new ways.

Here are a few more boyfriend cardigans that I’ve got my eye on for spring.
Love the open stitching on this one.

Happy Monday after the Super Bowl! I hope you got your fill of wings and nachos. I’m still cleaning up the kitchen from our party last night. At least there’s lots of FUN stuff on the blog today, so let’s get right to it.
SHAY’S PAJAMA PARTY!
Head on over to Shay’s blog because I’m the special guest for her February Pajama Party today! If you haven’t seen her monthly pajama party feature yet, you have to check it out. It’s one of my favorites in all of blog-land. Stop by to see me in my PJ’s and read all about the ways Shay and I celebrate Valentine’s Day with our families. With Shay involved, you can guess there will be lots of talk about food, fashion and family! Speaking of food, be sure to check out her Meal Planning Monday on her foodie blog too.
DAILY STYLE DIARY
If you’re new here, welcome to my Daily Style Diary. On Monday, I compile my daily pics of my casual everyday outfits that I’ve posted on Instagram this past week, along with links to what I’m wearing. I’d love to have you follow me over there to get the daily looks live. You can also check out more of my recent outfits HERE.
Monday
Brr…it was a cold one, so I went for warm and comfy with a fur snood, layers, fleece leggings and penguin socks, of course!

Tuesday
Another cold day, another day for leggings! I kept warm on my trip to Target in my Aztec cardigan, striped tunic, leggings and boots.

Wednesday
Wednesdays are barn days when Ava has her riding lesson. She always tells me to wear the right shoes, probably because I got one of my leopard flats stuck in the mud a few weeks back. Lesson learned, I’m wearing wellies from now on.

Thursday
When I saw this pretty green cardigan at Target, I had to have it. It makes me feel like spring isn’t so far away!

Friday
TGIF! Craig and I met my sister and brother-in-law for dinner and cured my craving for some brisket tacos. Yum!

Life Lately
Snippets from our daily life.
- Muddy barn boots on the front porch seem to sum up life lately. Craig and I have been on the go with the kids non-stop! I need a full day to tackle some projects around here and get some cleaning done this week (including getting those boots off the porch).
- Wink & Winn sent me this adorable welcome kit last week along with their 3-in-1 crossbody bag. I’m in the process of designing my own custom made bag with them and will share the process with you in a coming post. This is one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen in a long time!
- Our sweet Aubrey turned 15 on Saturday. We celebrated with dinner at her favorite German restaurant and then picked up an assortment of little sweets on the way home. This girl loves sauerkraut but doesn’t like birthday cake. What is wrong with her? 🙂
- New Bath and Body Works scent alert! I picked up the new Golden Magnolia Sun lotion and shower gel over the weekend and oh my gosh, it smells so good. I’m also loving the Violet Lily Sky too. Have you guys smelled them yet?

Jan 20, 2014
You guys really know how to make a girl’s day, week, month. Seriously.
The results of the reader survey are in. And wow, I’m just completely blown away! Thank you for being so open, so sweet, so honest. I took the weekend to compile and analyze the feedback and will be reporting it in Wednesday’s post.
Until then…
One of the key pieces of feedback you gave me was that you want to see more outfits and more casual ones at that. As a mom, I understand that you’re not wearing heels, carrying clutches or dressing up on a daily basis and neither am I. I want my blog to be about style inspiration, not aspiration. I hear you loud and clear so I’m going to start showing you what I’m really wearing on a daily basis. Because my hubby is my photographer and he works full-time during the week, the selfie in the mirror is the only way to do this, so please forgive the quality. We’ll still be doing our regular outfit photo shoots too.
If you’re following me on Instagram, the outfits will appear over there first before getting compiled into a diary entry for the blog. I won’t be posting pics every single day but if there’s an outfit that I put together that I think you might like, I will be sure to post it.
Here are this past week’s entries in my Daily Style Diary.
Day One
I had a few questions on Instagram and in the comments section about the jeans in this photo. The brand is Paige and they’re one of my favorite fitting pairs of jeans. The exact pair that I’m wearing is HERE.
Day Two
Day Three
Day Four
Day Five
Day Six
Day Seven
As you can see, I follow an outfit formula most of the time – skinny jeans + boots + a sweater + a few simple accessories. I had to include the obligatory yoga pants picture because I actually went to yoga that day. Don’t worry, I got dressed in real clothes later. 🙂
It’s Your Turn: Do you have any easy outfit formulas you follow? Share them with us in the comments!
