This vest and me? It was love at first sight. The colors, the plaid, the equestrian details, I may have been drooling when I pulled it up on Cavender’s web site. I just knew it had to be mine. It’s absolutely, perfectly fall.

Fall and blazers go together like peanut butter and jelly. They’re the perfect layer on a crisp autumn morning when it’s too cool for a cardigan and not quite cool enough for a jacket.
They also possess the power to take your favorite casual Friday look up a notch to casual chic. Try topping off your button down and jeans with a blazer to transform your entire look.

A tan or camel blazer is an incredibly versatile wardrobe basic that works with so many looks. The rest of this outfit works because the oxford is a lighter shade than the jeans, the leopard belt add just the right amount of interest and the bright flats bring a pop of color to the party. If you’re 100% opposed to blazers then swap it out for a neutral cardigan to take it to a more casual level, yet still look perfectly put together.
It’s Your Turn: What’s your favorite way to dress up your casual basics? Share it in the comments!

Fall just seems to beckon for adventure, doesn’t it? After the long, brutal summers we endure in Texas, it’s no wonder fall is my favorite time of the year. Our family takes every opportunity we can to get out and enjoy the crisp cool mornings and clear afternoons. One of our all-time favorite fall activities is taking a hike and breathing in the autumn air.
Our family loves adventure so I’m thrilled to be partnering with Jambu, a company that embraces the adventurous life. Their line of footwear is designed to empower people to love their journey through life. I’m sharing some of my favorite tips for embracing everyday adventures on a stylish foot with Jambu in October’s issue of Redbook. Be sure to pick up a copy and check it out.
The luxurious leather Perla bootie perfectly blends style with function. Hyper Grip technology provides the ultimate in traction for inclement weather. We may not get a lot of snow in Texas but our ice storms are no joke. A sturdy boot like this is a must-have in the winter months for getting around on slick surfaces. Not to mention it’s really cute and comfy too!

Have you ever had to go to back to back events – one casual, the other dressier – with NO time to change in between?
Last week, I had to rush between two overlapping blogger events – a preview of the new Nordstrom Rack in Dallas and a press screening for the Universal Pictures’ film “About Time“. More to come on both soon.
For the Nordstrom Rack event, I wanted to be stylish yet comfortable. One of my blogging assignments was to put together three outfits while I was there – so quick changes in the fitting room were a must.
I started with two comfortable basics – my faux leather leggings and an over-sized cobalt blue sweater – then paired them simply with my leopard flats.

In the car on the way to the press screening, I swapped out my flats for some ankle boots and added a leopard scarf. Instantly dressier.

Lesson learned – there’s no need to do a full outfit change when going between events. Start with a good base then swap out a few accessories in the car and you’re good to go!

About a month ago, I fell in love with this outfit found on Pinterest after searching for ways to pair up my oxfords. I couldn’t wait for the weather to cool down to recreate it. It’s the perfect combo of preppy casual with menswear details – a navy blazer, boyfriend jeans and oxfords.
