DAILY STYLE DIARY

Now on to last week’s Daily Style Diary outfits posted on Instagram.  There is only one word to describe this past week…BLESSED!  I had the opportunity to speak about spring fashion to 150 moms on Wednesday and Thursday at my home church, Chase Oaks.  It was so much fun meeting them and sharing ways to stay out of the mom rut and get our pretty on.  We also had an impromptu spring trends fashion show.

On Friday, Redbook featured my floral trends for spring on their web site and shared it on social media.  This was my first feature with them as a Team Red contributor and I couldn’t have been more excited.  Be sure to check it out HERE.

Here’s what I wore last week.

MONDAY

I spent the day catching up on errands and housework.

[Shirt:  c/o Golden Tote/Jeans:  Forever 21/Shoes:  Dollhouse]

TUESDAY

[Denim Jacket:  Kohl’s/Jeans:  Similar/Top:  Express (Sold Out)]

WEDNESDAY

For the first day of my speaking engagement, I combined a lot of my favorite things to create this outfit.  I have a whole new level of respect for those who speak for a living because it’s not easy!

[Tunic:  Merona (Sold Out Online)/Jeans:  Paige/Shoes:  Similar/Scarf:  Sold Out (Similar)/Necklace:  c/o Kendra Scott]

THURSDAY

On the second day I went a little more casual with my denim jacket, striped coral top and mint jeans.  The shoes were quite a hit on Instagram, unfortunately they are sold out but I also love this pair of floral wedges.

FRIDAY

We spent the entire day cleaning out our attic and garage to get ready for our community yard sale over the weekend.

[Top:  Loft/Jeans:  Paige/Shoes:  Mossimo]

I’m in love with these new cute kicks from Target.  They’re ON SALE now for just $12.  I’m ordering a pair in white today.  They’re so comfortable and go with everything!

LIFE LATELY

032814-life-latelySnippets from our day to day.

  • I wish I was cool enough to pretend like it’s no big deal to be mentioned in the same tweet as Alison Sweeney and Tracy Reese.  But I’m not!  Actually I might have squealed in the middle of dinner at Chili’s when I saw this.
  • Devon’s graduation announcements arrived this week.  It’s getting really real now!  He’s still not decided on his college but is getting closer.  We’re hoping he gives us an answer by the end of the week. (Fingers crossed!)
  • We opened the patio and porches back up for business this weekend.  I found these super cute outdoor pillows at Ross for only $5.99-$9.99 each!  I’ll post pics of the finished product when we get our flowers planted.
  • Both of our girls had artwork on display at our school district’s Celebrate the Arts festival.  We went to the art show with my parents last weekend.

Totally unrelated but if you’re looking for a great at-home yoga workout, my dear friend and yoga instructor Joseph has an awesome series of power yoga DVD’s that WILL get you in shape.  These are the ones that I use at home and I highly recommend them!

They are pretty challenging so start out with DVD 1 – Full Body Workout if you haven’t been on the mat for awhile.

Daily Style Diary | A Spring “Break”

Daily Style Diary | A Spring “Break”

Hey guys!  It’s spring break week here so I’m taking a little break to spend time with my family.  We don’t have anything big planned, just some day trips close to home.  But I want to be as present as possible which means I’m cutting back on blogging this week.  I still have posts scheduled, I just won’t be doing the Daily Style Diary recap today (last week’s outfits will be in next Monday’s post).  I also won’t be doing my regular Instagram outfits this week or responding to comments.  Everything will be back to normal next Monday.  If you missed any of my previous seven weeks of Daily Style Diary posts, you can get caught up HERE.

In the meantime, Susan at Ava Grace’s Closet is featuring me in her “This is 40” series today.  I hope you’ll pop by and check it out.

Also, if you missed it on Facebook yesterday – GREAT NEWS, the black floral scarf is back in stock and it’s 50% OFF!

Daily Style Diary | Entry Seven

Daily Style Diary | Entry Seven

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  It was warm here up until yesterday, now it’s freezing cold again.  I’m so ready for spring to come and STAY!

If you missed it last Friday, you must must must check out my Ultimate White Jeans Guide.  I put a lot of sweat and tears into it – it’s not easy cramming this booty into that many pairs of jeans!  Stop by and check it out HERE.

Here are last week’s Daily Style Diary outfits that were posted on Instagram.

Monday

I got ready for my (canceled) doctor appointment in this easy outfit.

[Tunic:  Merona/Scarf:  c/o Bindya/Jeans:  Paige/Boots:  Frye/Watch:  Michael Kors]

A lot of you asked about the scarf I’m wearing.  It’s beautiful but really pricey.  Here’s a cute chevron mix scarf that would look great with the green tunic at a much better price.

[Chevron Mix Scarf]

Tuesday

After a nice warm weekend, it got cold again.  Glad I didn’t pack away my sweaters yet!

022814-cobalt-blue-stripes-jeans[Sweater:  Mossimo/Jeans:  Wit & Wisdom/Boots:  Franco Sarto/Scarf:  Banana Republic]

This cobalt blue sweater was one of my favorites from Target this winter.  They no longer have it in cobalt but do have it in three neutral colors perfect for spring.  It’s lightweight enough to wear for awhile.

Wednesday

Stripes and leopard, one of my favorite combos.

Thursday

I got my floral scarves from Nordstrom this day and couldn’t wait to wear one to my rescheduled dr. appointment.

The green cardigan is back in stock at Target!  It’s the perfect companion for the floral scarf.

Friday

Craig finally came home on Friday.  Yay!  It felt like spring so I dressed accordingly.

022814-peach-jeans-floral-scarf[Sweater:  Mossimo/Scarf:  BP by Nordstrom/T-shirt:  BP/Jeans:  Similar]

I got my peach colored jeans at Target last spring.  They don’t have them this year but Gap has a similar pair in this pretty apricot.

[1969 Legging Jeans]

You NEED these scarves for spring!  I couldn’t be happier with them, they’re so much prettier in person than the pictures online.  The size is perfect and the colors are vibrant.  You can be sure I’ll be wearing them over and over this spring.

LIFE LATELY

022814-life-latelySnippets from our day to day.

  • To be honest, I’d love to own a small farm and raise golden retrievers.  Problem is I would keep all of the puppies!  I’m kind of obsessed with them.  Until then, I’ll just have to play with the puppies at the pet store.
  • Sometimes it’s ok to eat dessert first.  The girls and I went to dinner Thursday night at Central Market and did just that with this yummy turtle cheesecake.
  • Craig finally came home on Friday!  He surprised the girls and me by taking us for mani/pedi’s.  We were SO happy to see him!
  • Saturday was preview day at one of colleges Devon is considering.  Two visits down.  Hopefully he’ll be making his decision soon.  Fingers crossed!

crazy busy bookLast week, a few of you asked about the book that I was reading, Dr. Ned Hallowell’s “Crazy Busy – Overstretched, Overbooked and About to Snap!”  I decided to pick it up after seeing him talk about it in this interview.  While it was a bit of a slow read, I did get some really good info from it, especially in Chapter 28 – Ten Key Principles to Managing Modern Life.  This chapter and chapter 32 made the whole book worthwhile.

My biggest takeaways were:

  • Figure out what matters most to you, then do what matters most to you.  Don’t get sidetracked.
  • Cultivate your lilies (projects, people and activities that make you feel fulfilled ) and get rid of your leeches (projects, people and activities that deplete you).
  • Don’t live a life of trying to please everyone else first and you last.
  • Don’t allow yourself to take on more projects than you can handle, learn to say “no, not now”.
  • Don’t waste time “screen sucking” (wasting time engaging with any screen – iPhone, laptop, TV, etc.)

I’m working to structure my time and my days to focus on what matters most, spending less time “screen sucking” and more time being present for my family.  I’m cutting out some stuff that’s not my key focus in blogging too.  One of those changes is I’ve decided to step down as a co-host of the Beauty Buzz link up.  Don’t worry, I’ll still be doing beauty posts from time to time, they just won’t be a regular Tuesday feature.

Overall, I’d recommend this book, even if it is a slow read.  Part of me thinks the author purposely makes the reader slow down to address and highlight the problem of our fast-paced lives.  There are some gems in there, if you have the patience to find them.  🙂

I was not compensated in any way for this book review.  I bought the book myself and all opinions are my own.

I Feel Pretty | Winter to Spring

I Feel Pretty | Winter to Spring

It’s mid-February in Texas which means spring is just around the corner.  We’ve enjoyed some 75 degree days already this week.  There’s nothing better than a February day spent on the patio. Of course, Mother Nature is fickle and we’re bound to get some cold temps again but this week has been a nice break in the winter doldrums.

If you’re following my Daily Style Diary posts on Instagram, you’ve probably already noticed that I’m transitioning out of my winter wardrobe into more spring-y looks.  I’m so ready for my boots to go into hibernation for the season!

Before we say hello to spring style and goodbye to winter, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at my favorite winter outfits and ways to transition pieces of them into spring.  Yes, I’m aware that there will probably be plenty of winter wear opportunities ahead, but it’s nice to dream of warmer weather and start planning our wardrobes accordingly too!

Outfit One

Black and Beige Outfit Full

Keep for Spring:  Striped Top

Stripes are great year-round.  Pair them up with florals, polka dots, pastel jeans and every other spring trend you can think of.

[Striped Scoop Back Tee]

Outfit Two

Tribal Sweater Red Jeans Boots FullKeep for Spring:  Denim Shirt

Yes, denim shirts are still on the scene for spring.  They look cute paired up with a floral scarf and some fun pastel colored jeans.

[1969 Western Shirt]

Outfit Three

Wellies, Jeans, Jacket Full

Keep for Spring:  Rain Boots

Rain boots are a no-brainer for spring showers.  These come in seven different colors including this punchy red.

[Kamik Jennifer Boots]

Outfit Four

Cashmere Nepali Scarf Full

Keep for Spring:  Leggings

You better bet I’ll be wearing my SPANX leggings in the spring.  They’ll be perfect with long tunic blouses and cute flats.

[SPANX ‘Look at Me’ Shaping Leggings]

Outfit Five

Peplum-sweater-black-jeans-hunter-boots

Keep for Spring:  More Rain Boots

Spring is the wettest season after all, so more than one pair of rain boots makes perfect sense.  I love this violet pair.
