Alison’s Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, pretties!  This week flew by in the blink of an eye, didn’t it?  Here’s a list of some of my favorite things that made this week just a little better.

Favorite #1 – Awards Banquet

This past weekend was our 12 year-old daughter Ava’s end of year awards banquet for the North Texas Hunter Jumper Club. It’s the local club that she competes in at horse shows.  This was her first official season showing on her pony Jazzy and she ended up with two fifth place finishes overall for equitation.  We were very proud of her!  Here’s a shot of the two of them in action.

This is us at the banquet.  It’s rare to get a picture of her with her hair fixed, let alone wearing a dress!  But all of the horse girls cleaned up quite nicely.  🙂

Favorite #2 – IT Cosmetics “Brow Power”

In case you missed it, I did a tutorial on how to fake perfect brows on Facebook Live last week.  I also revealed my secret weapon, IT Cosmetics “Brow Power” eyebrow pencil.  It’s seriously the best ever! Watch the video for my tips and keep an eye out for more makeup tutorials coming soon.

Favorite #3 – Wedding Dress Preservation

It only took 18 years but I’ve finally checked this off my list – my wedding dress got cleaned and preserved!  If this is something you’ve put off too, let me tell you that it’s not too late.  Mine was hanging in a closet, never dry cleaned and had yellow spots on the bodice.  Our dry cleaner was able to get the spots out and send it off to be preserved and here’s the finished product.

Now I have a keepsake for my daughters and it looks as good as the day it was worn.

Favorite #4 – Patagonia Jacket

We’ve been having above normal temperatures for this time of the year so I’ve been wearing my Patagonia “Better Sweater” pretty much every single day.  It’s so easy to throw on with everything and is just the right weight to keep the chill off.  In case you missed this week’s SAHMonday post, this is how I paired it up.

Favorite #5 – Frank Sinatra

OK, so maybe this is just a sign that I’m getting old, but I listen to the Frank Sinatra station on Sirius XM more than anything else these days.  Honestly though, I’ve always loved standards, even as a teenager.   Lately some of his lesser known tunes like “Moonlight in Vermont” are becoming my favorites.

Plus, old blue eyes has made me realize something, I’m really a tramp. Have you ever listened to the lyrics of “The Lady is a Tramp”?  It’s pretty much me.  🙂

“She gets too hungry for dinner at eight

She likes the theater and never comes late

She’d never bother with people she’d hate

That’s why the lady is a tramp”

On that note, have a great weekend!

  1. Nice post today, Alison. I’ve used IT Brow Power for ages. Recently decided to switch it up a bit and try Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil #3, which is a similar color. The pencil is a bit thicker, but also works great. Cheers!

  2. My wedding dress is almost identical to yours! So funny! I had mine preserved, but my daughter wants to choose her own someday. I have actually thought about selling mine so someone else can love it(: I love all things It cosmetics! I want to try their pore reducing blush. Have you tried that? And your daughter is lovely! Susan

    1. Thanks so much Susan! I’m sure my daughters will want to chose their own too but they may find some use for mine. I guess time will tell! Yes, I have the pore reducing blush, it’s very velvety and has a beautiful finish.

  3. I like “Young at Heart” by Frank Sinatra. I have both my daughter’s wedding dresses that I would like to preserve for their daughters. I didn’t have a big wedding but did have a lace overlay on a spaghetti strapped dress. My daughter took the lace from the neck and wrapped it around her bouquet. Nice post.

  4. I am so excited to hear that Biotin helps grow eyebrows. Mine have gotten thinner as I have gotten older, and over waxing and over plucking have taken it’s toll on me, as well. I love my IT cosmetics eyebrow pencil like yours. I wore my green, plaid shirt today. I am so happy you shared it back when you found yours at Target. It’s long and so comfortable. Today I wore it with black jeans, an off white sweater, and my black statement necklace from the Winter Challenge with black riding boots.
You were a beautiful bride. I’m so happy you were able to rescue your dress. Mine needs rescuing, too!
I love Frank Sinatra. I have several favorites.

  5. Thanks for a great post! Sorry if I missed it elsewhere, but where di you get the wine colored shirt you wore in the picture with your daughter at the awards banquet? It is stunning!

  6. Alison, this is such a fun post! Thanks for sharing. By the way, a friend of mine from college messaged me the other night that she saw my link on one of your link ups and thought it was funny what a small world. She told me she is a big fan of yours and looks to your blog consistently for outfit inspiration! Thanks for linking up with me On the Edge!
