Five Beauty Products that Changed My Life

Five-Best-Beauty-Products

Is it really possible for a beauty product to change your life?  Of course it is.  Anything that makes us feel good every day by improving our appearance and confidence is nothing short of life changing.

Fortunately I have a few indispensable items in my beauty toolbox that fall into this category.  These are my go-to products that help me face the day confidently and make me feel great about the skin that I’m in.

Without further ado, here are five beauty products that I truly believe have changed my life for the better.

1.  NARS Blush in Orgasm

The other day the cashier at Target remarked that I was “glowing” and looked “happier”.  My 16 year-old daughter said “Mom, your blush is ‘on point’ today”.  These compliments are all because of this magical fairy dust for cheeks – NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm’.  It’s got a subtle amount of sheen that gives a pop to cheeks and the peach color is gorgeous on most complexions.  Get it, you won’t regret it.

What Makes it Life Changing: The texture, the color, the sheen and of course, the compliments.  🙂

2.  IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Skinny Pencil

This little miracle pencil from IT Cosmetics gives me perfect brows every single time.  I constantly get compliments on my brows when I use it.  The IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better pencil is super thin so you can draw in individual hairs and it changes color according to the amount of pressure you use.

What Makes it Life Changing:  It works for all hair colors and creates perfect brows every time.

3.  RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

RoC  Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is my anti-aging secret weapon.  I’ve used prescription strength products but this one is still my favorite.  It’s gentler but just as effective.  It helps with collagen production and really does make wrinkles less apparent.

What Makes it Life Changing: It really works, lines are less apparent and it makes skin glow.

4.  Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel as Primer

OK, so this one isn’t a beauty product at all, but trust me here.  I was a Smashbox Primer devotee for many years before trying this.  Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel is only $6 a tube, has the same ingredients and works every bit as well.  My makeup goes on smoother and stays put all day when I use this under it.

What Makes it Life Changing:  Budget friendly, works just as well as Smashbox, available everywhere, makeup goes on smooth and stays put all day.

5.  IT CC+ Cream Illumination Foundation

I’m addicted to this stuff!  IT Cosmetics CC+ Illumination Foundation gives my skin just the right amount of glow without looking too shiny, has SPF 50, is packed with healthy skin ingredients and is light enough for every day.  It’s the all around perfect product.

What Makes it Life Changing:  Just the right amount of coverage and glow, SPF 50, light enough for every day, a little goes a long way.  What’s not to love?

  • Okay…not gonna lie…the Monistat chafing cream freaks me out a bit. BUT, I am definitely going to try it. For $6 a tube you can’t beat it. Hope you’ll stop by and link-up with Mid Week Muse today!

    • I love the fact that I can save money on a product that does the same as others!

  • I love the CC cream too! I have been looking for a brow pencil, so thanks for the tip! Thanks for the link up today! Susan

    • You’ll love the brow pencil Susan. It’s my favorite!

Because of you I recently bought the Monistat gel. And it works perfect. Thanks! I use th orgasm in the stick version and works well with my dry skin. I have olive skin and its a great color.

  • I love NARS blush in orgasm. I recently started using the stick version. I really need to give that Monistat gel a try. I’m very intrigued. Thanks for sharing!

    • I’ll have to try the stick version Cynthia. Is it a lot better?

  • Tiffany

You would’ve made the clerk blush if you told her “orgasm” was the reason you were glowing. 😉 yep. I’m still a juvenile at heart.

    • Happy hump day Tiffany! 🙂

  • My friend has been using the Monistat for a long time as primer and swears by it. I still feel odd using it that way.

I love the Nars Orgasm blush but I have issues spending $30 for blush

    • I was hesitant at first, but I had to try it to believe it.

  • I’m a huge fan of NARS lipgloss, but I’ve never tried the blush. I need to!!!

    • You’ll love it Sheaffer!

  • Lisa

I’ve been following your blog for over a year now and tried the Monistat on your recommendation last year. The Monistat really works! I’ve tried many brands of primer including Smashbox, Bare Minerals, and Benefit. I can honestly say the Monistat really does work just as good if not better for me. I also use the Nars blush in Orgasm and it is well worth the price. Caution to first time users…use a very small amount first and then gradually use more if needed. Nars is very pigmented, stays on all day, and a little really does go a long way.

One beauty product that has really helped me is a lip primer pencil. I tried using regular lip liner followed by lipstick but the lipstick would still bleed. The lip stains products would stay on but we’re too drying to my lips even with lip balm applied. But the lip primer pencil goes on clear and prevents lipstick/gloss from feathering into the tiny lines around the mouth. It doesn’t dry your lips like the stains do. I’ve tried two different ones and they work equally well. Unfortunately the lower priced one is harder to find in my area. The bargain liner is Rimmel Anti-feathering pencil and the other one is Urban Decay 24/7 lip liner in Ozone. Just apply the primer around the edges of your lips and then apply lip color of choice. Sometimes I apply a colored lip liner over the primer first but it’s not necessary because the primer keeps the lip color in place. This lip liner has changed my life. 🙂

    • So glad you tried it Lisa. Thanks for visiting frequently and leaving your tips for first time users.

  • Treese

Wet ‘N Wild’s Fergie Eyeshadow Primer is awesome! Looking forward to trying the chafing gel (assuming it keeps skin matte) and NARS blush!! Thanks for the tips!! 🙂

    • You’re welcome Treese. Enjoy!

  • Morgan

I love the chafing gel! I started using it after you suggested it last year. I can’t believe the difference it makes! I am going to try the foundation & night cream. Thanks for the tips!

    • Woo hoo! Glad you love it Morgan.

  • #1 and #2 are totally on my list too! Nice.

  • Thanks for sharing these products!

    • You’re welcome Alice.

  • Laura

Clinique’s 7 Day scrub is my all time favorite beauty product. I have used it for almost 20 years!

    • I’ll have to try it Laura. A great scrub is always needed.

  • I love that the monistat product doubles as a primer, talk about getting the most bang for your buck!

  • Debbie Hurtado

Check out Wet n Wild Pearlescent Pink blush for a really close dupe to Nars Orgasm. Available in almost every drugstore and very inexpensive. I love the IT brow pencil. I have half brows (all light hairs on the outside) and this is the only product I have found that I can use with confidence that it will look natural and last all day. Looks like I’ll be trying Monist at soon!

    • I’ll have to try it Debbie. Thank you!

  • I’ve heard several people say that about that blush, I think I’ll have to pick one up the next time I’m out…or better yet Nordstrom online to the rescue!

    • It’s a great blush!

  • I keep meaning to buy the monistat but haven’t yet!

    • Must try! You’ll fall in love!

  • Lauren

Quick question – do you put moisturizer on before the primer? If so, what brand do you use?

    • Hi Lauren, I use Garnier Anti Sun Damage Skin Renew with SPF 28 moisturizer under my primer. It’s awesome!

  • I love Nars Orgasm blush too! Been using it for over a year

    • They last a long time. 🙂

  • Laurie

I love the Nars blush. Where do you purchase the IT cosmetics? I’ve never seen them….or maybe wasn’t paying attention.

    • The links are above. 😉 Enjoy!

  • Lee

Great round up! Thanks for sharing!! I definitely need to check out the blush!

I use the Monistat gel as a primer too. It’s not for yeast infections – that’s a different Monistat product. The anti-chafing gel looks and feels exactly like the Smashbox primer I used to use.

Another product that rocked my world as eye primers (I use Painterly by MAC or the anti-aging one by Urban Decay). My eye makeup stays put. No more racoon eyes by the end of the day.

    • I’ll have to try the anti-aging one Mary! Thank you!

  • Lauren

I also love using a CC cream. Mine is from Supergoop and uses only mineral sunscreens so it’s really good for your skin too, but I do want to try that chafing cream!

    • I’ll have to try that Lauren. Thank you!

  • Thanks for sharing about these products, I’ve been looking for a new eye pencil and I’m very curious about using this gel as a primer! I would have never of thought to use that.

  • Robin Waibel

What color do you use in the CC creme? Do you feel it is true to color? Like to know these things before I order online.

    • Robin, I use medium. Their colors are little on the lighter side so I tend to go a shade darker than I normally would. It’s best if you can go to the store and try them out before purchasing online.

  • Glad to read your blush recommendation. I can’t find one that doesn’t fade in a few hours. Will give this one a try. Thank you.

    • You’ll love it Leslie!

  • Nikki

I’ve been using the Monistat gel as a primer since you posted about it a year or so ago. It really works! Looks like I need to check out the CC cream and Nars blush. Love your tips!

    • Thanks Nikki. You’ll love the CC cream and Nars blush!

  • Lynn

How is the Monsistat on combination skin? Does it keep everything matte? TIA

    • Hi Lynn! It definitely tamps down shine. I wear it on humid days especially since my skin is a little on the dry side already. I think it would work great for combo skin.
