T.W.’s Christmas List

Can I tell you a secret?  My hubby has an unflattering nickname for me.  It’s T.W.

Now that could stand for a lot of great things like Terrific Wife or Tenacious Worker or Tidy Woman (which I am all of these, of course).  But no, it doesn’t stand for any of them.

It stands for…

Yes, he calls me a tightwad.  All in good fun, of course, but still.  Tightwad?

OK, maybe it’s true.  But why couldn’t he call me “frugal-ista” or “bargain babe” or something a little more cool sounding than tightwad!  Tightwad conjures up images of crotchety old men who pinch pennies and steal toilet paper from public restrooms.  (I do NOT do that, for the record).

But I guess if I own the title then I have to wear it.  I am pretty much a T.W.

We start saving in August to ensure that we have a great Christmas and it’s 100% paid for.  No credit card debt in this house.  No, no, no.  Credit cards are for earning cash rewards only.   (Helpful insight:  I’m a financial analyst by trade.  My tightwady-ness is hardwired.)

BUT, Christmas is the ONE time of the year that I don’t own up to my T.W. name.  It’s a festival of splurge-worthiness!  Most of my investment pieces through the years have been Christmas presents.  So this is the only time that I get to indulge myself and not feel a smidge of guilt.

I’ve been thinking about my Christmas list for almost as long as I’ve been saving up for it.  It’s not quite finalized yet, but here are some of this year’s definite maybe’s!

1.  Anthropologie Ruffled Trench Coat/2.  Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Honey/3.  Gorjana Alphabet Coin Bracelet/4.  Madewell Perfect Chambray Shirt/5.  Michael Kors Women’s Gramercy Gold Watch/6.  Just the Fox Ma’am Sweater/7.  Frye Melissa Button Boot in Cognac/8.  Cashmere Pop Top Mittens/9.  Madewell Faux Fur Vest

Lipstick on my Christmas list?  Yes!  It makes a great stocking stuffer and that is my absolute fave color EVER.

I have a special tightwad outfit for you today.  Last week, my friend Sheaffer at Pinterest Told Me To asked me to re-create some outfits from Pinterest.  Here’s one that I did where almost every piece was under $20!  Totally Payday Pretty approved.

Here’s the Pin-spiration look.

My Interpretation!

  1. Love both of these looks! I especially love the Stella and Dot necklace with the leopard dress….I’m totally inspired:) Looks fabulous!!

  2. Great Christmas list! I think I just might have to put the Frye boots on my list as well. TW? Funny! I can only imagine how my hubby would LOVE to say that about me…not happening. 😉
Your take on the inspiration is so adorable!
    Have a super week, Alison!

  3. My husband calls me a TW too! Ah well, as you say, we should wear it proudly. Love your Christmas picks, especially the Fryes, and the great chambray shirt. Thanks for sharing the fabulousness with Visible Monday.

  4. This made me giggle this morning. My hubby and I would both have to be called TW… that would get confusing. You’ve absolutely inspired me to find an outfit on Pinterest and thrift it. Love your version of the legging/chambray! Time to shop!!! Make it a great day…

  5. Oy vey – I wish I were a bit more of a tightwad, and I’m POSITIVE my husband wishes I was. I have the opposite problem. Your chambray version of your inspiration photo is spot on and fantastic. Love love love those boots. And speaking of boots, don’t even get me started on the Frye’s on your wish list. They are badass. I don’t know if you’re an eBay hunter, but I found my Frye harness boots on eBay for a decent price a few years back. Just a thought. Happy Monday!

  6. I’m jealous of your tightwadness! I wish I could find ways to save in August for Christmas! And can I just make your list mine? I am in love with hose boots!!!

  7. I like you nickname 🙂 it means you probably only end up with items you love, better than having a bunch of things you’d never use.

  8. I agree, tightwad sounds a bit harsh. The visual of some old man stealing toilet paper from public restrooms totally made me laugh out loud though!

Love your Christmas list. My faves are the trench and the watch.

  9. i am loving your pinterest created look and am going to try that look myself
husband is the TW in our family
i love to buy for everyone and me too!!

  10. Funny, you don’t LOOK like a TW. My darling huz is our family TW. You and he are actually more frugal (which is a virtue) than merely cheap (which is one of the lowest vices that there is.)
*Cheap* implies a meanness of spirit, which you clearly do not have. The above are fine distinctions, but important ones!
BTW, you’re looking adorable and absolutely madcap-spendy!

  11. I’m feeling like such an ass. Over the summer I bought a Chambray shirt but no idea what to wear it with – so I returned it. Now, I need it. Boots, leggings… So many ways I could wear it. Guess that’s going on my list!
