Paris Vacation Packing List – 20 Pieces

There’s just a few more days until my 16 year-old daughter and I head to Paris to celebrate her birthday.  Aubrey turned 16 last month and got a big surprise in this box – an itinerary and tickets for a mother/daughter trip to Paris and London. Read the original post to hear more about it, it’s a dream come true for both of us.

Paris-gift Well, spring break is (finally) almost here and we’ll be heading out in a few days.  As promised, I’ve put together my actual packing list for our trip.  We’ll be doing lots of sightseeing, shopping and walking, plus taking a day trip to London.  (P.S.  Thanks to ALL of you for the incredible travel tips in the original post!)  The forecast is looking awesome for this time of the year – upper 50’s and plenty of sunshine.

Believe it or not, I did almost no shopping for this trip.  All of these outfit basics were already in my closet thanks to doing GYPO Style Challenges this past year.  I don’t just put these style challenges together, I live by them too.  Casual outfits are all that we’ll need since we won’t be dressing up for anything. I’ll also be packing jewelry (long and short necklaces, earrings and a watch), an umbrella, a tote bag, a cross body bag and rain gear.

If you like this packing list, be sure to pin it.  Although this packing list is for Paris and a day trip to London, it would also work for a fall or spring trip to other destinations like NYC and Chicago. This only includes seven days’ worth of outfits but I’m confident you could put together two weeks or more just from these pieces.

  • Lori

What an awesome trip! You will love it! My only concern is your travel outfit for the trip home. European women don’t typically wear workout wear unless they’re working out. I wouldn’t wear anything that advertises that you’re American–especially with all the current world tensions. I also always pack a pashmina when I travel. I use it as a blanket or pillow on the plane. It doesn’t take up any room in your bag and then you don’t have to use the dirty airline ones. 🙂 Have a wonderful time! I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures!

    • Thank you so much for your tips!

  • Lori

Alison, thanks for sharing your packing list. You’ve put together some great outfits. Hope you and your daughter have an awesome trip! Safe travels!

    • Thank you so much Lori. We are so excited.

    • Isn’t it gorgeous?!

  • I am so bad at packing – either too much or too little. Looks like you did a good job remixing your clothes.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.

    • It helps getting a visual. I double check to see what I can remix in my outfits. It’s so fun.

Love all your choices but suggest leaving one of the pair of boots behind and packing a pair of VERY comfortable but still chic shoes instead – preferably ones with some sort of arch support. You will want to walk EVERYWHERE in Paris and London and you don’t want to be slowed down by sore feet! I usually take a pair of Clark’s flats that look cute enough for day but still keep my feet from hurting. Agree with the poster regarding your outfit for the flight home. If anything, i’d switch and wear the most comfortable outfit for the flight over since it’s likely overnight. HAVE FUN!!

    • Perfect suggestion CIndi. I will have to do that. Thank you SO much!

  • What a lovely post! I love mix and matching outfits, and it’s definitely hard to not want to pack your entire wardrobe when going to paris! So jealous! Hope you have a fantastic time!

  • Aren’t you just the most awesome mother?! I hope you have an awesome time. Paris is beautiful and London I have never been to but its on my bucket list! It looks like you have done a great job getting yourself mentally packed!!

What a great present for your daughter! I went to Paris in college, and hope to make it back soon with my husband.
No dressy outfits though? I feel like you need that for one night at least!

    • Maybe i’ll find something when I’m shopping there? 😉 😉

  • How fun! I hope you both have an amazing time!

  • This is awesome. I know you both will have an amazing time!

    • I think it’s every girls dream 🙂

  • Lori

    Alison,
you are amazing with how you put things together! I love every one of the outfits and hope to travel somewhere soon so I can copy them. Have a great trip!

    • Thank you! Let me know where you travel to. It would be so fun.

  • Such a great packing list! Have fun! Can’t wait to see some pictures!

    • Thank you. It took me some time to put this together, but i’m so glad I did. 🙂

  • So excited to hear about your trip! Such a great time ahead. Your outfits look perfect. Every time I wear my leopard scarf or shoes I think of you!

    • That’s so sweet. I love leopard. 🙂

  • Heidi from Canada

Awesome list Alison, love those outfits. You and your daughter will have such a great time. I took mine to Italy at that age and we both still remember that trip fondly. You might want to pack another pair of great walking shoes. There is a LOT of walking to be done.

    • Thank you for the tip. I’ll definitely put that in.

  • I think stripe shirts and flats are French inspired items to have when going to Paris! I hope you and your daughter enjoy going to Paris!

    • Thank you so much Lanae. We are so excited.

  • Jennifer

The two of you must do a bicycle tour! The folks at Fat Tire Bike Tours (Paris) are awesome 🙂 we did the day tour and night tour and had so much fun.

    • I’m putting that on my to do list. Thanks Jennifer!

  • I cannot wait to see pics!!!!!!

  • I’m so excited for you and your daughter. It will be such a wonderful trip, and something you will always remember. Can’t wait to read all about it! Have a wonderful time :)!

    • Thank you Lana. We have been counting down the days and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.

  • It sounds like a very interesting trip, I’m sure you will have a lot of fun. Of course, I’m partial to London: I find in infinitely more interesting than Paris. Maybe because London is a bit rough around the edges, gritty, and loud… compared to Paris, that is.

    • Thank you Tina. I’ll have to place London in my list of places to experience.

  • Silke

You will look great! I like all the combinations.

My experience is, that, no matter what you´re wearing, you´ll always feel like a tourist as soon as you see the Parisian women. I think they are born with their style and it´s impossible to copy. Sometimes it´s just a luxury handbag or THAT pair of shoes they´re wearing. I can´t explain, but you´ll see.
I also agree with the other post regarding your outfit for the flight back. In Germany most people dress very comfy but no workout wear. I´d go for leggings or comfy jeans like your outfit for the first day.
And I would take the boots. It may be still cold in Paris and London. The weather in Paris in March is unpredictable. I´ve had 41 to 68 degrees F during one weekend trip.

Have the greatest time ever! Mother/daughter traveling is wonderful!

    • Thank you so much Silke. I am looking forward to our Mother/Daughter trip. 🙂

  • Laura

I am excited for you and your daughter. What fabulous memories you will have! We are going to London and Paris in June with our 7 yr old son and 11 year old daughter. I can’t wait to see how you enjoyed your trip and what you’d do differently if you had the chance. Have fun!!

    • Thank you Laura. I will be sure to share this with everyone. That sounds so fun! Enjoy London.

  • Jan

OMG I love this!!! Hmmm… deciding if I should do it. Maybe in April 🙂

  • Oh my gravy!!!!!! You are a lifesaver. My husband and I are going to France and Belgium in May for our third anniversary and I’ve been so nervous about what to pack…I usually over pack and then have to lug that huge suitcase up and down the metro stairs. This will definitely make my life easier. Thank you!!!

    • That sounds beautiful. You will have a good time. 🙂

  • Cristi Steed

Alison, I would love to know how the trip went…clothes-wise! I saw the follow-up post with all the gorgeous pictures but would love to read how the pieces worked out on your trip, if there was anything you wished you had brought or didn’t need, how the boots & shoes did for all the walking, etc. I know this post is from back in March but was just curious about your thoughts as we are going to London and Ireland for a week in April. Thanks!

    • Hey Cristi! The trip was downright amazing. Clothes wise, I used every piece in my suitcase and stuck to the plan. It worked out wonderfully. I used my loafers for walking but wore my riding boots and nicer shoes to dinner. I’d use this capsule again for a similar trip. It was nice to have the layering options too since we encountered both warmer and cooler temps. Hope you have a wonderful time!

      • Cristi Steed

        Thanks, Allison!

        • You’re welcome. London and Ireland sounds beautiful!
