Much like Alison, I welcome the change in seasons and although I can’t say I totally love the cold, I do look forward to the crisp fall air. It’s the signal that I’m officially in the clear to pack away my sandals and flip-flops and break out my boots. I love wearings my boots and I love having a variety of styles in my closet. Boots are a great closet staple and a good investment piece if you’re able. A well-made pair of boots in a classic style will last for years.
This season I’m seeing a pretty big shift from the super low ankle boots and sleek lines to something a bit more chunky. Knee-high boots are also in the spotlight again and I’m loving the slouchy texture. Knee-high boots are a perfect example of something that is a classic meaning it never really goes out of style but is back having its moment again. There is a difference between something being truly out of style and just not on-trend. Learn more about this HERE!
1. Knee High Boots
In seasons past it was all about the ankle boot. Knee-high boots were still around because of course, they are a classic, they just weren’t totally having their moment. Well, it seems like their moment is back this fall. I’m seeing tons of cute riding boots which are typically flat or have a small heel, but I’m also seeing knee-high boots with a block heel. One of my favorite variations of this boot have a scrunched, slouchy appearance. These are a great pairing with skinny jeans or a great fall dress.
2. Chelsea Boots
The Chelsea boot by definition is a boot that is close-fitting, ankle height, and has an elastic side panel. Typically they also have a loop on the back to help pull them on. These boots date back to the Victorian era, talk about someone old being new again! While today’s Chelsea boots are a bit more modern and super comfortable with today’s technology, they are also very versatile. These boots look great with skinny jeans or under boot-cut jeans. Pair them with some wide leg crops or even dress down your favorite dress.
3. Kitten Heel Boots
If you don’t like a high heel boot then you’re in luck! The kitten heel is everywhere this fall and can be found in both ankle boots and knee-high boots. A kitten heel is usually low, about 1-2 inches, and skinny but you can find some that have more of a skinny rectangle profile to add more stability. This is another example of a classic-style boot that is back on-trend.
4. Combat Boots
Military and combat boots are still really popular this season. They look great with jeans and leggings but they also look great with a casual fall dress. Also, don’t limit yourself to just neutral colors. Have fun adding some bright pops of color! I’m also seeing white combat boots everywhere! The best part about these boots is that not only are they on-trend, but they are comfortable and functional especially in those places that see snow. Check out Alison’s Five Ways To Wear It for more ideas on how to style combat boots.
5. Sock Boots
Sock boots are mainly characterized by being tight around the ankle. The ‘sock’ part can be just the upper part of the boot or could frame out the boot entirely. Although the term sock implies a knitted boot, sock boots can be made of suede, leather, or neoprene. These boots are pretty versatile and can be worn over skinny jeans, under bootcut jeans, or with a casual fall dress.
What fall boot trends are you most looking forward to wearing?
I started GYPO in an effort to get out of my yoga pants rut and I can honestly say I’ve come a long way. I love the feeling of confidence I get when I wear a put-together, polished outfit. That doesn’t mean I still don’t wear my yoga pants, I just don’t spend days in them like I used to. There are those days however where I want it all, I want the comfort of my yoga pants paired with a completely put-together look. Those days where the idea of putting on jeans just isn’t in the cards. We all have those days, right? So how do we have both comfort and style? The answer is a great pair of leggings. Leggings are an absolutely amazing combination of fashion and function. Plus, you can easily dress them up or dress them down. Leggings have such versatility that I was able to come up with 21 Days of Leggings outfits and I want to share them all with you in my FREE download.
Yes, I Said 21 Days of Leggings Outfits
Not only do I style 21 days of leggings outfits, but there’s also a shopping list to help you. Chances are you already have a lot of the items in your closet. But, if you don’t, you’re armed with a list of what you need to fill in the gaps. There’s no guesswork involved. I styled the outfits below using my favorite faux leather leggings. However, these looks will work beautifully with any black leggings, and for those days when jeans are the answer, mix and match these looks with them too. That’s the beauty of outfit formulas®, they are a base, a starting point. The more confident you get with your style, the more you’ll play around with them to make them your own. And seriously, that’s my favorite part. I love seeing the confidence pour out of the GYPO pretties!
Belted Cardigan + White Tank + Leggings + Leopard Flats
shop the look
For my first look, I’m styling my faux black leather leggings with a rusty/burnt orange belted cardigan I bought a few years ago. My white tank is from my closet and my leopard mules add the perfect pop of print. If it’s one of those days where you know you’re not leaving the house, you can easily swap in some cozy leopard print slippers. As I said above, all of these looks will coordinate with any black leggings.
Option #2
Moto Jacket + Striped Top + Leggings + Leopard Ankle Boots or White Sneakers
shop the look
I have to say this is one of my favorite outfits using my faux leather leggings. This is a perfect example of how to dress up your leggings. My leather moto jacket is one of my investment pieces from a few years ago. Then I paired it up with one of the few striped shirts I have in my closet. I may have a slight striped shirt addiction. Finally, to finish off this look I added my leopard print boots for some fun pattern mixing!
Option #3
Neutral Sweater + White Tank + Leggings + Snake Print Shoes
shop the look
I’m switching it up with look number three and going a bit more casual. First, I opted for a neutral sweater. In this case, I choose a gray one that has a cute little twist detail in the front. I put a white tank top under the sweater and again paired it with my black leggings and styled it with some snake print slip-ons. If you’re not into snake print you can swap them out for some metallic slip-ons. And unfortunately, this sweater isn’t available anymore but this one is similar.
Option #4
Chambray Button-Down + White Tee + Leggings + Leopard Ankle Boots or White Sneakers
shop the look
This leggings look has closet staples written all over it! Starting with my chambray shirt all the way to my white sneakers, everything in this look is directly from my closet. Remember, a polished look doesn’t have to be complicated. So don’t overthink it!
Option #5
Printed Cardigan + Black Tee + Leggings + Black Ankle Boots or White Sneakers
shop the look
For look number five I decided to dress up my leggings again. This time I started with one of my tried and true outfit formulas® of black top, black bottoms, and paired that with my black boots. This is an absolutely amazing base that gives you plenty of options. Finally, I paired it with a printed cardigan as my topper however, you could easily incorporate any topper you like. Perhaps a printed boyfriend blazer or a utility jacket.

Fall is a time for change and it’s also a great time to get your hands on some of the newest beauty products. Just like your closet, I always suggest going through your makeup twice a year to clear out any old stuff that might be expired. No one complains when I brush their hair and I’ve noticed less breakage since I’ve been using it on mine. Just in time for the holidays, Wet Brush came out with its Crushed Jewel Pro Detangler collection in Sapphire Sparkle, Sterling Frost, and Ruby Shimmer. They are so pretty the hardest part will be deciding which one to get. Is it too early to think about stocking stuffers?

Confession, I also use it during the day to give my lips a boost and add some shine. And did I mention it smells amazing?

Nothing like a mini facial to make you feel pampered and with Origins Merry Mask Minis you can try a different one every night! Perfect for all skin types, these clean beauty masks will have you feeling refreshed and bring life back to dull skin. My favorite is the Out of Trouble™ 10 Minute Mask to Rescue Problem Skin but I’m excited to try the Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask with Avocado & Swiss Glacier Water especially as we get into the cold weather.
While black liquid eyeliner may not be groundbreakingly new, the new NARS Climax Liquid Eyeliner’s claim to fame is its staying power, 16 hours worth to be precise. It’s both smudge-resistant and waterproof and comes in a matte black formula. The brush makes it super easy to apply and create a variety of lined looks from soft and subtle to winged and dramatic.
I know this isn’t necessarily a new product for fall, but with the holidays coming up there’s a chance for some travel and if you don’t have a great travel makeup bag then this is one to consider. With this bag, you’re able to easily layout all your cosmetics in an organized way and then just as easily gather everything up without missing a beat. It comes in solid colors and fun prints as well as three different sizes. Plus it’s the travel makeup bag Alison swears by.
You’re Turn! What beauty products are you excited to try this fall?
Time has taught us that when it comes to fashion and trends, what was once old is now new again. This fall is no exception. To say this month’s Pretty Fix is not a little grunge-inspired would be a lie but it does have a sophisticated twist. That sophisticated twist is pairing this look with my newly acquired white ankle boots. Now before you dismiss white boots and possibly, but hopefully not, stop reading this post, I urge you to scroll down and have a look for yourself. White boots were way out of my comfort zone as I’m sure they are for a lot of people, but they have been so much fun to pair up this fall. If fun white boots aren’t going to be your takeaway from this blog, then you’ll still be able to use the Outfit Formula to make this look all your own.
So just what is the Pretty Fix? It’s where a style a look that contains classic closet staple items sprinkled with a few trends. The trend pieces are an easy way to update your closet for the season or you can even skip them altogether. With Outfit Formulas® you’re able to easily sub in classic pieces for the trends or just pick the trends you want to add. For this particular look, I kept it classic using black and white then added a pop of color with the handbag choice. I always recommend shopping your closet first to see what you already have, but if you have any gaps, I also provide options to help you shop. Now let’s check out this month’s Pretty Fix!
Plaid Button-Down + Solid Top + Black Bottoms + White Shoes
1. Plaid Button-Down
Oh, the plaid button-down. It’s truly a classic but its silhouette can change how we style this item. This fall the trend is more of a slightly boyfriend cut button-down that is reminiscent of 90s grunge but with a lot less headbanging. I kept this look classic by opting for a black and white plaid but any color combination will work. Another variation of the plaid button-down I’m seeing is a shirt-jacket also known as a shacket which is a little heavier. While you want this shirt to look more relaxed you also don’t want it to swallow you up. There is such a thing as too big. Also, if this oversized look is not for you, then simply opt for a more fitted plaid button-down that has a shorter hem making it easier to do a whole or half tuck.
2. Black Top
No matter what style you pick, v-neck, tank, or long sleeve, a black top is a year-round closet staple. I recently found this one from Amazon and I love it! It comes in a variety of colors and allows me to add some layers and feel like it’s fall. In order for this look to not feel frumpy, you need to select a black top that is a little more fitted or one that you can do a full tuck or half tuck with. This will help balance out the fullness of the plaid button-down to create a more polished look.
3. Black Bottoms
I don’t think black jeans get enough credit. They are super versatile and the washes can vary from true black to washed out black which almost looks gray. For this look though you can style with the black denim as I have or you can swap in some black leggings for an ultra-comfortable, ultra-casual look that still looks polished. If you want to try something even more out of the box, opt for a black skirt or even a solid black dress and use the plaid shirt as a topper and stick with the white shoes. Don’t forget with Outfit Formulas® we give you a guide but there’s enough flexibility that you’re able to make it your own.
4. White Shoes
While any white shoe or even white sneakers will work with this look I found a really cute pair of white/offwhite boots and I’m having so much fun styling them! I know what you’re thinking, white boots, really? They may seem like a retro blast from the past but it’s all in how you style them. They go with a lot more than you think! For more inspiration head over to Pinterest then you can decide if this is something you want to add to your closet this fall.
5. Backpack Handbag
Large totes and backpack handbags are really on-trend this fall. What I love about them is they are pretty practical especially if you are someone who carries a lot of stuff. That being said, they are also stylish. They come in all different sizes and the deep fall colors and rich cognac browns will go with everything in your fall wardrobe and even carry you into the winter. If you’re not quite sure about this trend then opt for a backpack that also has a short strap or crossbody strap option. That way you have the option of wearing it a few different ways.
6. Wrap or Stacked Bracelets
Whether you choose a wrap bracelet or mixing and matching some of your favorites, having a few bracelets on your wrist is on-trend this season. I love picking out a few and putting them together to create different looks but for a quick chunk of ‘wrist candy,’ I opt for my favorite wrap bracelets. They are quick and easy and make a big statement. That being said, don’t think that stacked bracelets have to be big, bulky, and chunky. You can totally add some small, more minimalistic bracelets if that’s more your style. Click here to see more fall accessory trends!
7. Square/Rectangle Hoop Earrings
As you know hoop earrings are a classic and something I wear pretty much all the time. They’re my go-to earrings. This season however I’m giving square/rectangle hoop earrings a try and I am loving them. They are the perfect mix of classic and trend and just like my circle hoops, they go with everything. Plus they are a fun tie-in to the chain-link trend. And there’s are many different styles available, gold, silver, thick, thin, big, small, and even ones with little embellishments on them.
Your turn! What item is your favorite? Will you be trying some White Boots This Fall?
One of my favorite things about fall, aside from the fall scented candles, are the layers. I love adding layers to my outfits and this time of year there are so many options to choose from. Since it’s not truly cold, at least for me yet, I’ll wait until we get a little closer to winter to add in the scarves and hats so for now, I’m going to focus on toppers. Some of my favorite toppers include closet staples like the denim jacket, the utility jacket, and the vest. Even though those three items seem pretty straightforward, there are enough differences in each to justify having a few different versions if you want.
When it comes to a denim jacket and versatility I always recommend a medium wash. I promise you’ll get the most bang for your buck with that wash. As for a great utility jacket, the standard color is olive green because it goes with everything however gray and brown are also wonderful options. Now we have the vest where the options are aplenty! You’ve got every color imaginable plus there are puffer vests, lightweight fleece vests, quilted vests, and more. My suggestion is to pick what will work best for your lifestyle. You can definitely have fun with color on this one so pick one that makes you glow!
Layering Trends
Now, if you want to incorporate some trends this fall, the shirt-jacket, or shacket as it’s sometimes called, is very on-trend. This is an item I wouldn’t break the budget on just because it is considered a fall trend and you never know how long they are going to stick around. The last layer I’m styling today is the blazer. While the boyfriend-style blazer is specifically on-trend, the blazer is a classic that you can wear year after year. Okay I lied, I’m also styling a tried and true classic, the cardigan.
It’s true, there are so many fun options for fall it’s hard to decide. Recently I partnered up with Walmart to check out some of the new items they have out this season and they have some great layering pieces. Below I’ve put together three different fall looks and the only you need to decide is ‘this or that.’ Realistically all the layers are pretty interchangeable which makes them all very versatile and the perfect addition to your closet if you don’t have them in there already.

I am so glad I was part of the Fall 2019 Style Challenge. It gave me confidence and so many great outfitt ideas. The ladies in the group were very supportive and I will defintetly be doing another challenge in the future.
Betty Weyandt December 20, 2019
I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.
Michelle Kline November 20, 2019
Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
