Pretty Fix – The February List

Pretty Fix – The February List

The Pretty Fix is a monthly feature at Get Your Pretty On that features my top five picks for the month that you can shop for on your own to stay in style…all at a price you’ll love. The idea for it was born out of frustration that some of you have had with other monthly box services that you feel “miss the mark” or are too pricey.

Each month, the Pretty Fix includes five affordable items that I personally recommend to stay on trend. This month features pieces to create a cute, casual Valentine’s outfit that’s a little bit French and a wee bit nautical.

Oh and the best part?  This is one of my most budget friendly fixes ever coming in at just under $68 total!

Consider me your budget-minded personal shopper. Here’s your February Pretty Fix.

FEBRUARY PRETTY FIX TOTAL = $67.70

1. Red Lipstick for All – $9

Don’t think red lipstick is for you?  Think again!  L’Oreal Paris has come up with shades of red that are perfect for everyone.  Their Colour Riche Collection of Exclusive Reds includes shades that match up with the coloring of some of our favorite glamorous celebrities like Blake Lively, Julianne Moore, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Frieda Pinto.  There’s sure to be a shade that works for you too.  (Psst, February is the perfect month to add one to your pout.)

2. Cozy Striped Cardi – $14

I have a cardigan similar to this and am amazed at how it transforms a simple t-shirt and jeans into something special.  Just add bright flats and your outfit is done!  P.S.  The original cardi is now sold out but check out these three options: option one, option two, option three.

3. Cashmere Feel Scarf – $12.90

So soft and warm, this cashmere feel scarf in crimson red is like a Valentine’s Day hug for your neck.

4. Skinny Jeans for a Steal – $7.80

These super cheap skinny jeans from Forever 21 have been a closet staple of mine for many years.  I buy a couple of pairs a year and wear them out.  They wear well, have incredible stretch and actually fit.  Don’t knock them til you try them.

5. Red Flats with a Dash of Leopard – $24

It’s all about the little details and the leopard lining in these flats makes them feel extra special.

Better You: What Are You Tolerating?

Better You: What Are You Tolerating?

I’ve worn many hats in my career but one of the most fulfilling has been as a professional life and business coach.  Working with women to create lives where they feel passionate, focused and motivated is truly one of the most rewarding feelings ever.  Although I don’t actively coach one-on-one anymore, I’m still very passionate about helping women figure out what they want and how to get it.

Last year, I rolled out a group coaching program called the Rediscover Me Challenge.  Part of the reason I created this program was due to women in the GYPO Style Challenge asking for something more.  After rediscovering confidence through style, many of them were ready to dig deep and work on other areas of their lives…and it’s been nothing short of AMAZING.  Since it’s start, over 600 women have experienced incredible results and have described it as “truly life changing”.

The program includes 28 days of my most effective coaching exercises – all delivered in bite-sized pieces perfect for working through with your morning cup of coffee.  Rediscover Me focuses on figuring out and creating more of what you want out of life. For four weeks, participants get daily videos and printable exercises filled with coaching techniques to dig deep, set goals and create the life you want. You can sign up for three free days of the challenge at this link

This challenge used to only be offered twice a year but due to demand, I’ve opened it for year-round enrollment.  It also includes a private Facebook group where participants can get support and share their challenges and transformations.  The best part?  Once you join, you’re always a member.  You can go back and do the challenge over again anytime you need a tune up.  Some women go through it two or more times per year.

Today I’m introducing you to a concept from the challenge that I learned about several years ago that’s changed my life for the better in small but significant ways. It’s all about eliminating tolerations from our lives.

What’s a toleration, you ask? It’s basically anything you’re putting up with that drains your energy.

Watch the video to learn more about some of the things I was tolerating – from complaining friends to a lumpy pillow and dull razors.  This video has a call to action for you to make your own list and start tackling tolerations. You’ll be amazed at how great it feels!

I mention a 28 Day Challenge Facebook group in this video. This closed group is available for paid participants of the challenge.

Ask Alison: Three Wardrobe Pieces to Invest In

Ask Alison: Three Wardrobe Pieces to Invest In

Today’s Ask Alison video addresses a question I get asked by readers on a regular basis – what wardrobe pieces are worth the investment.

Alison – I’ve heard you say to invest in classic pieces for your wardrobe that stand the test of time.  What pieces do you recommend investing in and how much should I spend on them?

In the following video, I share three wardrobe items that are always worth the investment plus some advice on budgeting for your own investment item bucket list.

Three Wardrobe Pieces Worth the Investment
What NOT to Invest In

There are also some items that you should steer clear of spending much on.  For example,

  • Trends – Trendy items are usually only in style for one season.  If it feels overly trendy, then it probably is.  If you’re unsure, buy an inexpensive version and if it proves to have longevity you can always upgrade it at a later date.
  • Jewelry – Unless it’s the real deal, don’t invest much into costume jewelry.
  • Tees and Tanks – These are all basically made from the same materials and something you’ll want to replace on a regular basis, especially if you regularly wear them as an under layer.
It’s Your Turn:  I want to know what’s on your investment bucket list.  Tell me three items that you’d love to own (or already have) in the comments below.
What I’m Really Wearing – Winter White

What I’m Really Wearing – Winter White

Today kicks off a new monthly blog series called “What I’m Really Wearing”.  In the fashion blog world, I’ve found that a lot of the outfits are more aspirational than inspirational.  I’ve even fallen into the trap of featuring overly styled and accessorized outfits that I wouldn’t wear in real life.  Truth is, I do wear a version of these outfits, just pared down significantly.

That’s what this series is all about – the simplified outfits I’m REALLY wearing to do real life in and you can too.

This month, I’m featuring my winter white cords because they’ve been the one item I’ve reached for in my closet more than any other this winter.

Growing up in the northeast, my winter wardrobe consisted of 50 shades of gray…and black.  Color was almost non-existent.  If you had told me then that winter white and pastels would one day be my winter staples, I never would’ve believed it.  Yet here I am, loving (and living in) my pale pink sweater and winter white pants.
