Five Things I’m Loving at Walmart Right Now

Five Things I’m Loving at Walmart Right Now

I always love finding beautiful and affordable items to add to my closet whether they are closet staples or trendy pieces. I’ve been working with Walmart for roughly the past ten months and I can’t begin to tell you much they have evolved and totally upped their fashion game! The clothes they have available both online and in-store are amazing and the prices are super budget-friendly.

Recently, they partnered with a brand called Scoop with the idea of bringing boutique shopping at affordable prices to help you build the ultimate closet. I was intrigued and of course, had to check out all that the Scoop line had to offer. Let me tell you, they have some really amazing pieces! They have pieces perfect for every day casual, a fun night out and some items with a little sparkle, perfect for any upcoming holiday party.

With so many items to choose from it was hard to narrow it down, but I did manage to pick five of my top pieces which I listed below.

1. Scoop Sherpa Lined Trucker Jacket

This is a warm twist on the classic denim jacket which is a tried and true closet staple. What caught my eye with this jacket is the soft sherpa lining which looks amazingly cozy and the wash on this jacket is timeless.

2. Scoop Sarah High Heeled Ankle Bootie

What I love about this black boot is that it’s a great closet staple but also subtly incorporates the snake print trend. They’ll look great with skinny jeans but also under a pair of bootcut jeans. This is an awesome way to ease into this trend.

3. Scoop Danielle Classic Pump in Leopard

Is it any surprise there is a leopard print item on this list?!? I love the size of the actual leopard print on this pump and the pink insole is a fun little detail. This is a great and very versatile shoe to add to your closet!

4. Scoop Stretch Lace Wrap Dress

The little black dress is a classic closet staple and I love the lace details in this dress. Also, the wrap style silhouette is very flattering and the 3/4 length lace sleeves are perfect for this time of year.

5. Scoop Red Leopard Print Crewneck Sweater

Okay, so yes technically this is another leopard print item but I love how the red background really enhances the look of this piece! This sweater can easily be styled with some black skinny dress pants and heels or dark wash skinny jeans and black booties. Maybe this sweater could make an appearance at your next holiday party?

Big thanks to Walmart for sponsoring this post and making it easy to feel trendy and stylish!

Closet Tour – My Closet Cleanout

Closet Tour – My Closet Cleanout

After weeks of putting it off, I finally cleaned out my closet, packing away my spring/summer clothes and breaking out my fall/winter wardrobe. Now I know it may seem a little late in the season to be doing this but it has been so warm here that I didn’t want to make the swap just yet. Then, what seemed to be overnight, the weather suddenly changed and we’re finally experiencing the cold weather I love this time of year! Watch my weekly Coffee Chat video below for more details on my closet cleanout.

I wanted to talk to you about closets, closet cleaning and closet staples today because we did a survey of GYPO readers in September regarding the Fall Style Challenge. I wanted to know that if you didn’t sign up for the Fall Style Challenge, what was your reason? I do this because we are constantly trying to make the Style Challenges better and I can use this information to make the program better for all of you.

But it was the feedback from those surveys that led me to today’s topic. There were two main reasons why our readers didn’t sign up, the first was budgetary restrictions. I do make the program affordable at $39 a season but I understand that for some, even that can be a stretch. And I totally 100% get it. I’m a mom and my kids suck most of the money out of the house. But it wasn’t just about the sign-up cost but more about purchasing the items on the other end of that. For fall, we tend to need a lot more clothes than we do for any other time of year. There’s a lot more buying that happens after you buy the program so that I totally get it.

However, it was the second reason that surprised me the most, that a lot of you feel like your closet is overwhelming you right now. The idea of digging into your closet, cleaning it out and seeing what you have takes your anxiety to an all-time high. I totally get that too! There’s no way to really do it neatly, especially if you haven’t done it in a long time. It’s an “it gets worse before it gets better” type of situation but it’s necessary so you can see what you have before you start filling in the gaps. If you don’t take inventory of what you’ve already got then you’ll end up like me with 12 black and white striped shirts in my closet. I love stripes but does anyone really need that many of the same striped shirt?

If you’re still not sure where to start, check out my Closet Cleanout Guide. Then once you’re done with that, you may still be anxiously looking at your closet only now thinking, “okay, so now my closet is empty and I have no more clothes!” If that overwhelming feeling comes back, then download my free Closet Staples Shopping list because that’s going to give you the basics you’ll want to have in place in your closet. Go through the list and check things off that you already have and then head to the store to get what you need. Shopping with purpose will actually help you spend less money in the end I promise!

So my challenge to you is whether you decide to do a full closet cleanout or just go through and quickly assess items you know you either don’t like, you don’t wear, it doesn’t fit or it’s out of style, just commit and make forward progress. If your closet is overwhelming to you, try to pull maybe a bag or so of clothes that you want to sell or donate and take that next step. I would love to see your closets and your progress! Send me your pics at info@getyourprettyon.com, tag me on facebook or DM me on Instagram. I’m going to hold you accountable and we’re gonna do this together!

Your turn! Are you starting big or starting small? It doesn’t matter just as long as you start somewhere!

How to Start a Journaling Practice

How to Start a Journaling Practice

You’ve heard me talk about journaling so many times and how important it is in my life and in my daily routine. I believe that journaling is therapeutic, it can boost your mood, reduce anxiety and foster self-improvement. I also believe it’s important to be able to look back on what you’ve gone through, both good and bad, to help you appreciate where you may be right now and to focus on where you are going and where you want to be.

Although I’ve been journaling since my 20s, it has evolved so much. I get a lot of emails and messages from people saying, “But I don’t know how to start” or “Where do I start?” Watch my weekly Coffee Chat video below for more details on starting a journal and the above-mentioned benefits of journaling!

Your Journal Doesn’t Have to Be Fancy

You don’t have to have a fancy journal. You can start with a blank notebook. You can start with a Word document. You can start with the notes app on your phone. It does not matter. Just start somewhere. You can also buy journals that already have the prompts for you and those are especially helpful if you’re really struggling with where to start. But do it, start it, and work it into your daily routine.

Keep Your Journal Accessible

Another important part of successful journaling is to make sure it’s accessible. Making your journal easy to access means you won’t forget about it. That’s why I like having mine on my laptop. I get on my laptop every single day. It’s right there. I can just pull it up and start to type. Even if it’s only three to five minutes, at least I’m doing something in there. If you want to keep it on your phone, that’s another easy way to have it with you. If you prefer writing to typing, keep your journal by your bedside so you can start a journaling ritual in the evening before you go to sleep or even when you wake up.

There’s No Right or Wrong Way

There’s truly no right or wrong way to do it. Just start doing it. Whatever comes to mind is what you write even if it’s just a few sentences. It really is that simple. Don’t overthink it. Remember, your journal doesn’t have to be a novel. This is for you only, so try not to put rules and restrictions on it. Who cares if you make grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes? You scribble, whatever. It doesn’t matter. Nobody’s gonna judge you. You can do a daily gratitude practice. You can do a prayer journal. You can just ask yourself the question, “What am I feeling right now?” Use that as a prompt to get you started. There’s no wrong way to do it.

It’s Never Too Late

This is a biggie, remember it is never too late to start a journal. There are so many benefits and things you don’t yet realize you’ll want to remember later on. So if you’re reading this and saying, “but I didn’t start journaling in my 20s” don’t worry about it. You can start right now and begin today. Don’t wait! Seriously, as soon as you’re done reading this go start your journal! I promise you won’t regret it.

What’s your favorite way to journal?

10 Nail Colors You’ll Want to Try This Fall

10 Nail Colors You’ll Want to Try This Fall

by Jessica Pigza

Just like Alison, I also love fall! I love the chill in the air, breaking out the sweaters and boots and snuggling up on the couch with a warm blanket. But more than that, I love the color palettes that fall brings. It’d been more than 15 years since I’ve witnessed the brilliant colors that are perfectly captured in the changing of the leaves but a recent move back to Pennsylvania has me seeing this amazing event with new eyes. I didn’t realize just how much I missed seeing the deep reds, burnt oranges and bright yellows that painted the landscape. That’s why I’m so excited to see the fall nail polish collections and discover what new twists there are on the classic fall favorites.

Fall is usually all about deep, rich colors but there are some surprisingly light colors that have made there way into the mix. Also, sparkle and shine which are usually reserved for closer to the holidays and wintertime have made their debut early. There are SO many fun shades to choose from this fall, but I’ve narrowed it down to some fun favorites. Below are 10 nail colors you’ll want to try this fall!

1. Burnt Coral

Let It Glow by Essie may look a bit more coral in the bottle but when you put it on, it’s more of a burnt, coppery orange with a really nice shimmer. Another similar color is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Coral Commotion.

2. Crisp White

Crisp and clean, bright white nails are making a statement this fall. There are so many shades of white to chose from but OPI’s Alpine Snow seems to be a pretty popular shade and goes on well. If you’re not totally sure about trying bright white, you can always opt for something with a little gray tint to it like OPI’s I Cannoli Wear OPI.

3. Black Cherry

OPI’s Black Cherry Chutney is like getting three colors in one! It can vary from an almost black, to a super deep, dark cherry or even look like a deep plum depending on how many coats you use and what light you’re viewing it under. This is a lovely, rich color for fall!

4. Creamy Yellow

Yes, I know yellow may seem like more of a spring/summer color but Essie’s Hay There isn’t really sunshiney bright as much as it is a creamy yellow. Think scarecrows, hayrides and soft yellow leaves.

5. Happy Gray Skies

Gray is still a super popular color that seems to be sticking around season after season. As we’ve transitioned into fall I’ve noticed that the gray tone has become a deeper, more slate gray. Below are the fun gray shades I found this season.

Chanel Le Vernis in Washed Denim / Sally Hansen Color Therapy Namas-Grey / Revlon Nail Enamel Sophisticated / Essie Winning Streak

6. Ocean Inspired Teals

I know teal isn’t anything new for fall, but it’s one of my favorite jewel tones, however, this year I’m seeing it with a shimmery golden green undertone like that of the ocean. Below are two examples of this in addition to a beautiful, classic teal polish.

OPI This Color’s Making Waves / Essie Go Overboard / JINsoon Nail Polish in Heirloom

7. Hot Chocolate

I’m not always the biggest fan of brown nail polish but this shade, Foster by Zoya, got my attention. The pink undertones in this color help to brighten up the rich brown color and because of that, it looks great on most skin tones. Think of it as hot chocolate for your nails.

8. Glitter and More Glitter

The options are seriously endless when it comes to adding some glitter to your nails. There’s fine glitter or chunky glitter as well as an endless array of colors. Wear alone or over your favorite base color.

Morgan Taylor It’s My Party / Essie Of-QuartzDeborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro Nail Color Candy Shop / Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color Shooting Star

9. Jewel Tone Purple

So maybe teal isn’t my only favorite jewel tone color for fall. I’m also a huge fan of a rich purple and this Smith & Cult caught my eye in a big way. The color is called A Little Underground and it’s a pretty rich purple with some sparkle to it.

10. All Reds!

This color really needs no introduction as it’s a true classic that in my option, is on-trend all year long. I did go through and pick out some of my favorites and one of the standouts was Essie’s Ace of Shades which is a metallic red that dries with a matte finish.

Essie Ace of Shades / OPI Big Apple Red / Deborah Lippmann Lady Is a Tramp / NARS Jungle Red

Your turn! What’s your go-to fall color? What new colors will you be trying this season?
