My Top Five Winter Trends

My Top Five Winter Trends

I’m super excited because it’s the most wonderful time of the year and I get to tell you about my five favorite winter trends! While most of the trends are a carryover from fall, I’m seeing a lot of our perennial favorites. What I mean by that is our winter staples, cozy sweaters, leggings and of course, plaid. So let’s dive right into these winter trends you can add to your closet right now. For even more details on my five favorites check out the video below!

1. Plaid

Let’s start with plaid because I think that plaid is one of the most wearable winter trends we can add to our closet. Year after year we see so many different variations of plaid which is what makes it so fun. It’s both classic and ever-changing. This year I’m seeing a lot of bright plaids with pinks and purples but I’m also seeing a lot of the classic black watch plaid. If you’re not familiar with black watch plaid, it combines green, navy and black. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I put on the pants pictured above and instantly fell in love. The trick with plaid, and well anything if I’m being completely honest, is that you can’t judge it until you try it on and remember not all plaids are created equal. Just because you don’t like the way one plaid looks doesn’t mean you should rule out them all. Keep trying until you find one you love!

2. Bright Colors

Bright colors are back in a big way this winter. Bright pink, fuchsia, you name it. These bright colors are totally on-trend. We saw a lot of this in fall 2019 and it’s carrying over into winter so if you invested in some bright sweaters for fall, guess what? You’re going to get plenty of wear from them this winter too. You really can’t go wrong with adding a bright color to your wardrobe this winter.

3. A Versatile Blouse

It’s party time ladies and no winter wardrobe is going to be complete without a beautiful blouse. I highly recommend that if you don’t have a pretty blouse you’ll want to get one because it is going to be a workhorse in your wardrobe this winter. It’s perfect for holiday parties, you can pair it up with a pair of plaid pants or dark jeans, add a statement necklace, the possibilities are endless which is why this is such an amazingly versatile piece. I promise you will get so much use out of a beautiful blouse this winter!

4. Sweater Dress

Winter is the time for getting cozy and there’s no better way to do that than in a cozy sweater dress. The cool thing about sweater dresses is that they never go out of style. I have sweater dresses that I’ve had for at least five years. A basic black turtleneck sweater dress is going to stay in style forever and they are so easy to dress up or down. Plus they’re super comfortable. You can pair them with some tights and a pair of leopard print booties. Or if you want to dress it up you can put on some heels and some statement jewelry or you can even wear it with your cozy UGG boots. It is super comfortable and super versatile. And you’re going to want to keep this one in your closet for a really, really long time.

5. Faux Leather Leggings

Last but definitely not least, we’ve got our faux leather leggings. Yes, ladies. These are sticking around! If you don’t have a pair yet, you’re going to want to get them. I’m not going to lie, I usually wear my faux leather leggings about three times a week. I like to pair them with my cozy sweaters and my ankle boots. They can also be dressed up or down super easily and they’re so comfortable! I promise if you don’t have a pair of these yet, you are definitely going to want to add a pair for winter 2019!

Those are my five favorite winter 2019 trends. Which ones are your favorite?

Jackets to Keep You Warm and Stylish this Winter

Jackets to Keep You Warm and Stylish this Winter

Now I don’t like to rush things but I know some of you are already experiencing some major cold fronts and that got me to thinking that soon it will be time to break out our winter jackets. Whether you’re in the market for a new one or digging one out of your closet, it’s not lost on me that a “winter jacket” means different things to different Pretties based on where you live and how much cold you actually experience during the winter months. Some may be able to get away with a light utility jacket while others will be dawning their warmest parkas. That’s why I’m once again teaming up with our good friends at Walmart to showcase some of their newest arrivals and my top picks for stylish and functional jackets that are perfect for winter.

Warm Jackets

This jacket looks super cozy with its fleece shell and sherpa lining. I love that it cinches in at the waist to help show your shape and that it has an attached hood. This is a perfect lightweight jacket for those mildly cold days. It’s shown here in a charcoal gray but it also comes in black, heather gray, mauve and navy as well as plus size.

The corduroy jacket is making a comeback this season, so if you’ve held on to yours now is the time to break it out and if you’re looking for one, above is a great option. The lining in this jacket makes it perfect for the milder cold weather and looks fantastic paired up with skinny leg or boot cut jeans. It’s also available in plus size.

Warmer Jackets

I think this is one of my favorite jackets! I love the clean, creamy look of this midweight, ivory quilted jacket and the chocolate brown piping around the edge is a great added detail. I also love that it has a tie around the waist and the attached hood.

Okay, so I know I said the last one was probably my favorite, but I really love this one too! It’s taking the classic moto jacket and making it a bit warmer with the super soft lining. I love that the lining trims the wrists and bottom hem while the exposed zipper and buckles add the perfect finishing touches

Warmest Jackets

And then there are those times where function trumps fashion and it’s so cold that warmth is truly all you’re looking for in a jacket. This heavyweight parka not only will keep you warm in the harsher cold, but it looks great! I love the details, the quilted second layer, the faux fur-lined attached hood and the ribbing around the wrists to help keep the cold out. Mossy green is pictured above, but it also comes in rich black and plus size options.

You can’t go wrong with a classic wool peacoat. It’s heavy enough to keep you warm during the colder months, but without a ton of bulk plus it’s easy to dress it up or dress it down. While this look is totally classic, I decided to have a little fun and select this deep red color. If you’re not sure about the red, it also comes in black, gray and taupe and is available in plus size.

Your turn! What weight jackets are you looking for? Will any of these be joining your closet this winter?

Fall’s Coziest Faux Fur Jackets

Fall’s Coziest Faux Fur Jackets

We can probably all agree that one of the best things about fall and winter is the return of cozy clothes! From soft sweaters and brushed corduroy to sherpa and faux fur Banana Republic is totally hitting the mark on looking stylish this fall while being wrapped in the coziest pieces.

I recently had fun playing around with some pieces from Banana Republic’s new fall arrivals. Both looks can be worn now without the top layer if it’s not needed yet in your neck of the woods. I absolutely adore the look of neutrals in the fall and winter months and nothing is more classic than winter white. For this first look, I layered a sherpa cocoon coat over a super soft fitted short sleeved turtleneck sweater and finished it out with winter white cropped corduroy pants. With an all neutral look, leopard shoes are always a good idea!

In my second outfit, I paired up a winter white faux fur jacket with a lightweight merino turtleneck sweater in neon green for a fun pop of color. These pieces paired perfectly with my crop flare corduroy pants and a dash of snake print for good measure!
