Have you heard the news? There are A LOT of new style silhouettes on the scene for spring 2019!
It can be really hard to warm up to new trends when they’re such a significant shift in silhouette from what we’ve seen the past 10-12 years. Style is moving from skinny, slim fitting bottoms and flowy tops to wide legged pants and jeans with fitted or boxy tops. It’s a complete flip and it’s going to take some time to get used to it.
Ready to try the trends? Here’s a quick cheat sheet to navigate them…if you dare!
Spring 2019 Trend: Boxy Tops
At first glance, boxy tops appear to flatter exactly no one. But this hot spring trend is actually really cute and versatile. Boxy tops pair well with just about any type of bottom including skirts and shorts.
Pair it With: Wide Leg Pants, High Waisted Jeans, Pencil Skirts
Move over skinny jeans – wide leg pants and jeans are taking spring 2019 by storm. A wide leg calls for a balance in proportion. Avoid anything loose or flowy on top and be sure to tuck your shirt in when possible. Longer wide leg pants look great with heels or wedges.
Pair it With: Boxy Tops, Button Downs/Blouses, Fitted Tops
High waisted pants and skirts are quite possibly the most wearable of the spring 2019 trends…and the most comfortable too! Plus you can pair most of the tops you already have with them. Just be sure to half tuck at the waist to show it off.
Pair it With: Button Downs/Blouses, Boxy and Cropped Tops, Fitted Tops

Welcome to a #WorkWearWednesday version of Style Your Budget! If you’re new around here, Style Your Budget helps you shop smarter by showing you one outfit prompt styled at five drastically different price points.
One of the things that makes Style Challenges work so well is that we don’t provide you the clothes. That may sound like a bad thing at first, but we promise it isn’t. By providing you with a style prompt rather than a box of clothes, you get to decide what the outfit ultimately looks like (and how much it costs).
If you already own all the pieces in the prompt you can shop your closet for a free outfit. Woohoo! However, if you need to fill in a gap in your wardrobe you get to choose which store, and more importantly how much you are going to spend, to fill in that gap.
This look is from the Style Challenges Winter 2018 Work Wear Capsule Wardrobe. Building a cohesive and affordable work wear wardrobe doesn’t have to be tricky and Style Challenges is here to help. It’s as easy as 1-2-3… we promise! 1. We give you a shopping list so you’ll know exactly what you need. 2. Check off your list by shopping your closet or using our recommendations. 3. You’ll get a complete guide of daily outfit ideas using the pieces from your list. It’s that easy! Make your walk to the copier your fashion runway!
Moto Jacket + Solid Dress + Black Ankle BootsNow let’s Style Your Budget!

However, if you are trying out new trends, fluctuating between sizes, or need a more budget conscious option we hope this post has helped you see that you truly can feel confident in what you are wearing no matter where you shop or how much you can afford to spend.

Hey pretties! As many of you already know I started my winter/holiday break last week. This is a tradition that started a few years back when our oldest went off to college. When the whole family is home for the holidays, my #1 goal is to make space and be fully present with them. The best way to do that is to cut back on everything including blogging, social media and e-mail. Even though I LOVE my job, it’s always something I look forward to and so does my family! Plus I come back from my break refreshed and ready for all of the exciting projects planned in the new year.
I scheduled the beginning of my time off this year to coincide with our son Devon’s college graduation. Over the weekend he got his B.S. in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry. It’s been a long, challenging road but we couldn’t be prouder. Not going to lie, we’re also more than a little happy to have one less tuition payment!
This outfit is a prime example of why it’s important to have some classic investment pieces in your closet. I didn’t stress a bit over what to wear to his winter graduation. Every piece in this outfit will never go out of style and can be worn for many years.
This seamless Italian cashmere wrap was gifted to me from EILEEN FISHER and I’ve worn it every day since it arrived. It’s definitely an investment piece but I’m sure I’ll get so much wear out of it. I’ve already thrown it on over everything from my workout clothes to this sweater dress that I wore to graduation.
The holidays are a time for focusing on what really matters— to make space for the special people in your life, including you! EILEEN FISHER’s guide to effortless giving helps you make space to enjoy the holidays.
If you’re looking for a great gift idea, EILEEN FISHER has some gorgeous investment quality ponchos and wraps for every woman on your list. Get them for 60% off plus free 2-day shipping on orders over $200. Here are a few of my favorite pieces.
Big thanks to EILEEN FISHER for sponsoring this post and making it easier to make space this holiday season!
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you already know that I’ve been consuming a steady diet of Hallmark Christmas movies for the past month. Yes, they’re cheesy and predictable and all follow basically the same plot formula but I. JUST. CAN’T. GET. ENOUGH. Do you know what else I can’t get enough of? Hallmark Christmas movie outfits! I guess the title sort of gave that away.
One of the things that I started noticing this year is that the outfits in these movies are almost as formulaic as the plots. Well, you already know that I LOVE a good outfit formula. As a matter of fact, I swear by them for getting dressed every day. So I thought it would be fun to break down two of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movie outfits for you today using pieces you probably already have in your closet.
Have you ever noticed that the women in these movies are on like, a three day trip and then get stranded somewhere for weeks on end yet still have endless cute outfits to wear? They must have some kind of magic suitcase.
But I digress. I can’t even tell you how much I eat up every single one of these movies – flaws and all. It’s totally part of the appeal. Now let’s get to the real reason why you’re here – Hallmark Christmas movie outfits!
Outfit #1 – Small Town Street Scene
Let’s start with the iconic small town street scene outfit. Every Hallmark Christmas movie has some variation of this classic outfit formula.
Now, let’s break it down!
Pom Pom Hat – Every character gets to wear a hat at least once and the magic of the movies is that they NEVER have hat hair! What is that? This hat comes in 27 colors!
Plaid Scarf – A festive plaid scarf is as predictable as the two main characters who start out hating each other falling madly in love just in time for Christmas. Here’s my blanket scarf.
Warm Gloves (and an Empty Coffee Cup) – Is it just me or do the obviously empty coffee cups in these movies drive anyone else crazy? It’s totally obvious that there’s nothing in them and it makes me kind of sad. I want the actors to actually have something hot to drink in those cups. (For the record, my cup has hot coffee. I couldn’t do myself like that.) And because leopard is a neutral, here’s a great pair of gloves.
Wool Coat – All the wool coats in these movies are TO DIE FOR! You’ll see every color and style – they’re as much a staple as a Balsam Hill product placement! If you’re looking for a colorful wool coat like the one I wore in this post, I highly recommend this one.
Next up, we have the trimming the tree outfit. Practically every Hallmark Christmas movie has at least one scene where the lead characters trim a tree together.
Here’s the breakdown!
Festive Colored Sweater – Every good Hallmark Christmas movie outfit starts with a sweater in a festive holiday color. For my outfit, I picked this green wrap sweater inspired by Candace Cameron Bure’s wrap sweater in “A Shoe Addict’s Christmas” and layered it over a nude cami.
Delicate Necklace – Have you ever noticed that many of the main female leads where the same necklace with every outfit throughout the movie? I picked this diamond chip necklace for mine because it goes with everything.
Empty Coffee Mug – Sigh, the bane of my existence is back! The empty coffee cup makes its way into the indoor scenes too. Just give these poor actors something real to drink, I’m begging you!
Skinny Jeans – Great fitting pairs of skinny jeans are almost as prevalent as ex-boyfriends who stayed behind and work noble professions in small towns. Here’s a link to mine – the jeans, not the ex-boyfriend!
Super Cute Trendy Boots – That I would no way wear to trim a tree unless I wanted to break my neck on the step ladder. (For the record, I actually wear my slippers.)

More Hallmark Christmas Movie Outfit Ideas
Just for funsies, here are some of my other all time favorite Hallmark Christmas movie outfits. First up we have one of Candace Cameron Bure’s outfits from “Switched for Christmas”.
This next look is from “A Shoe Addict’s Christmas” (one of my 2018 favorites) and features a scalloped green sweater dress, tall black boots and an adorable apron.
This is one of my all time favorite Hallmark Christmas movie outfits! A velvet bodysuit is paired with an amazing plaid skirt and the most drool worthy heels ever (that I only wish I could afford).
If you’ve been around GYPO awhile, you may have noticed that I’m not a big dress person. There’s one notable exception though, I love me some sweater dresses! They’re so cozy and, when layered over a great pair of tights, they’re a lot like wearing a long sweater with leggings. Who doesn’t love sweaters and leggings?
Today I’m pairing up a sweater dress I recently found at Walmart.com from Maurice’s. GYPO Pretties love shopping at Maurice’s! They carry pieces in sizes 2-24 that are both affordable and fashionable. Two of our favorite things! Walmart.com is now offering over 1,500 pieces online from Maurice’s. Most items over $35 ship for free with no annual membership.
I’ve been looking for a pair of flat comfy Chelsea boots this winter. When I spied this pair in velvet, one of winter’s hottest trends, I knew I had to try them. They also come in black velvet and bonus, they’re waterproof!
Let’s pause to give these black tights the love they deserve. They are body shaping tights by L’eggs and ladies for under $4 you won’t find a better pair of tights. They lift and hold and are downright magical!

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.

GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
