Alison’s Friday Favorites

Welcome to a special spring break edition of Friday Favorites!  Our family is gearing up to head to one of our favorite places on earth for spring break.  We hadn’t planned on doing anything this year but it’s our daughter Aubrey’s senior year and I found a great hotel/flight package deal last minute.  So we’re busy packing for five days in the Riviera Maya of Mexico!

If you’re new around here, Alison’s Friday Favorites is a weekly list of anything that makes my life a little easier, prettier or happier.  Here are five things that checked those boxes this week.

Favorite #1 – Grand Residences

Grand Residences is the all-inclusive resort we’ll be staying at in Puerto Morelos, Mexico.  It’s in a sleepy little fishing village in the Mayan Riviera about 3o minutes south of Cancun.  We stayed there for one heavenly week last summer and have been dreaming of going back ever since. All inclusive resorts work so well for our family.  We get to truly relax and not worry about having to do a thing for ourselves. Grand Residences even includes room service so most mornings we have breakfast on the patio. Plus it’s a smaller resort so the beach doesn’t ever get crowded. I feel like it’s our little secret!  Here are a few pictures from last summer’s stay.

Favorite #2 – One Piece Swimsuit

Since this trip was kind of last minute, I scrambled to find a new swimsuit and took a chance on ordering one online.  This black mesh inset swimsuit came a few days ago and thankfully, it fits perfectly!  I’ll be wearing it with the strap at the top.

For size reference, the small fits me perfectly (I’m 5’4″ and 128 lbs.).

Favorite #3 – Swim Coverup

And what’s a swimsuit without a coverup?  Again, I ordered this one online and couldn’t be happier with it.  Target is running a buy one, get one 50% off of all swimsuits and coverups (online only) so I got this one for half price.  It fits really well and is tapered at the waist to give it a nice shape.  It’s also a little longer on me than on the model (which I like!)

Favorite #4 – Floppy Hat

My skin has barely seen the light of day all winter so I’ll definitely be taking extra precautions at the beach!  My hat rarely leaves my head when we’re on vacation, unless it blows off.  I bought this black and white floppy hat last summer and will be packing it for our trip this time too.

Hat packing tip:  Stuff it full of socks and undies when you’re packing and then pack around it to keep it’s shape in your suitcase.

Favorite #5 – SPF Foundation

Last but certainly NOT least, I’ll be wearing plenty of this every day.  Honestly this stuff works better than applying sticky sunscreen to my face and feels a lot better too. Granted it’s not waterproof, but I do reapply it after swimming and sweating. It’s my daily foundation, even when I’m not at the beach.

It’s Your Turn:  What are you loving this Friday?

Linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday Favorites.

  1. Kim King Street

Have fun! Your trip sounds wonderful! I’ve got a cover-up question for you! I am in the “skirt wearing stage” of swimwear, and have been for years. (Body shape woes I guess) I know this doesn’t apply to you, but can you recommend a style cover-up that would work with a skirted suit? I know the bottom half of me is “covered up” already but I would still like something to throw on over it so I will feel dressed when heading in from the lake or beach for lunch. Thanks! (Oh, and unless it’s something weird on my computer, both cover-up links go to the same one, the crocheted black one)

      • Leah

I have the exact same question regarding a good cover-up over a skirted suit. Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. KHoward

I was surprised that the suit was from Target! And then even more surprised at the really cute one-piece suits they have. I might need to make a big order!

  3. Helena Adams

    Hi Alison,
Have fun. I was wondering what site did you use to book your vacation. I too have a senior and it would be nice to go away during April break.
    P.S. I love your blog.

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

Helena, it’s so nice to have you stop by! I booked our vacation through Expedia. I keep a close eye on their deals and e-mail newsletters. 🙂

  4. Lori May Dailey

We are headed to Cancun tomorrow. It would be fun to bump into you at the airport! I’m using your summer vacation capsule from last year and its been so nice. I usually overpack! Not this time. Have a great trip!

  5. Shaunacey

have so much fun, wish I was headed south!

  6. Lisa Richardson

Well you are just going to look darling in all your new beachy things. Senior year…a crazy fun time! Our daughter graduated last year and in May our son graduates from college. We are looking to take a tropical trip this summer with just the 4 of us (probably for the last time with jobs, and eventually spouses working in the mix❤️) I love that you can have room service INCLUDED on your patio. I think I’ll check that out. Have a glorious time!

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

Such exciting times in your household Lisa! It just made me teary eyed thinking of eventually having spouses working in the mix! They grow so fast!! <3

  7. Nada Manley BeautyMommy

Have fun!! Love the bathing suit, cover up and floppy hat, and I am also obsessed the IT Cosmetics CC cream. One of my everyday faves!

  8. Kathryn Anderson

Have a wonderful time! What is your take on trends for sun glasses this year? Cat eye? Aviator? Thanks!

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

Anything goes with sunglasses this year. The classics are still around and retro (oversized and cat eye) and aviators are also in. I haven’t seen any one particular trend. Which is good, that means you have lots of options! 🙂

      • Kathryn Anderson

        Thank you!! 🙂

  9. Shawnda

Do you use a primer with the CC foundation? I have it, but it didn’t seem to last long or didn’t give very good coverage — something like that! I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror a few hours later and it didn’t look like I had applied make-up that day!

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

I don’t use primer with the CC foundation. I tend to touch up and re-apply it a little bit later in the day. I use it daily and it helps me achieve the fresh face look!
