One Outfit Formula – Five Different Styles

Outfit formulas® – it’s a fairly simple concept but the interpretations can be limitless. One of the cores of GYPO is that style is for every person, every budget, every size, and every age because we all deserve to feel confident and amazing in what we wear. Sometimes though, there’s a misconception that by using the outfit formula, you’ll lose your individual style. I’m not only here to tell you that is not the case, but to show you as well! Today’s blog is going to focus on one outfit formula but showcases different categories using five different styles. I want you to see just how versatile the outfit formulas® are. They aren’t hard and fast rules, they are merely a guide to help you look and feel your best! Whatever your personal style is, the outfit formula is easily adaptable. Below is the outfit formula I came up with. Now let’s have some fun!

Solid Color cardigan + White top + Denim bottoms + Bright shoes + neutral handbag

#1 Preppy

A navy cardigan is paired with a white blouse, navy chino shorts and red wedges.

Would you describe your personal style as a bit preppy? Simple, classic pieces shape this look. It starts out with a navy cardigan over a flowing, v-neck, sleeveless top but instead of opting for denim bottoms, I swapped in navy chino shorts. It’s still in line with the formula, but takes it to the next level. For the bright shoes I choose some great red wedges and balanced them out with a simple tan structured handbag. I finished off this look with some matching red hoop earrings and a mid length pendant necklace to complement the v-neck top.

#2 Boho

A light pink kimono is paired with a white tank top, medium wash jean shorts and green sandals.

I had a lot of fun putting together this boho look! A solid blush kimono was my ‘cardigan’ for this style and to complement the flowy nature of the kimono I picked a more form-fitted, white racerback tank. Medium wash, distressed shorts were an easy way to add some more visual interest to this look. Mint gladiator style sandals also added a great pop of color. Speaking of color, I have to say my favorite items are the colorful, raffia earrings but those don’t overshadow the brown fringe handbag and long pendant necklace. Although bold, all these pieces work beautifully together to create one cohesive style.

#3 Sporty

A gray zip up hoodie is paired with a white tee, medium wash shorts and pink slip ons.

As you know I’m a jeans and t-shirt girl for life so putting together this sporty look was right up my alley. My ‘cardigan’ is this casual, heather gray hoodie over a loose white tank that had a cute little open detail in the back. This white top looks great untucked or half-tucked into a pair of medium wash boyfriend shorts. For my bright shoes I choose some dusty rose slip-on sneakers and kept my neutral handbag simple with a black, one shoulder sling pack. To finish off this look I found some simple, but colorful stud earrings and short, pendant necklace.

#4 Romantic

A blush cardigan is paired with a white top and medium wash denim skirt with coral wedges.

I had a really hard time picking the right cardigan for my romantic take on this outfit formula so I’m going to feature both of them. The first one pictured above is this beautiful, flowing pointelle cardigan which is perfect for letting the eyelet details of the white top shine through. The second cardigan I choose is pictured below in the shop the post feature and I loved this cardigan because of the fun, flair and ruffle detail at the bottom. You can’t go wrong with either style cardigan to top this denim skirt with the tie waist and frayed hem. (Click HERE for more size options in the skirt.) A coral wedge seemed like the perfect bright shoe and paired really well with the neutral raffia tote. Finally, I completed my take on this romantic style with some colorful blue stone earrings and a short, simple, silver pendant necklace.

#5 Edgy

A black moto jacket is paired with a white tee, distressed dark wash jeans and mustard heels.

While I may be a little bit country with my t-shirt and jeans, I’m also a little bit rock and roll. For my edgy take on this outfit formula I had to start with my solid ‘cardigan’ and in this case, it’s my solid black moto jacket. This is one of my favorite closet staples and it’s the perfect outfit topper. My white top is this effortless v-neck tee paired with some dark wash, distressed, skinny jeans. These oh so cute snake embossed, yellow heels add the perfect pop of color. I added even more fun with a pair of colorful fringe earrings and finished it off simple with a long gold pendant necklace and black handbag with gold hardware.
