First off, let me say thank you all for inspiring this fun monthly mother/daughter style series. It’s a really cool way for Aubrey and me to bond over fashion. No sooner do we do one until Aubrey is asking me what the next month’s theme will be! We both love being able to connect this way and share our style with you.
Today’s styling idea comes courtesy of the Spring Style Challenge participants. A question that kept coming up in the Facebook group is whether or not sneakers were appropriate for moms of a, umm, certain age and if so, how to pair them up.
To that the answer is a resounding YES! Wear those sneakers! They’re just about the perfect kind of footwear – comfy, cute and casual. If you’re worried that you’ll look like your teenage daughter (or someone else’s), don’t fret. Aubrey and I both wear them on a regular basis. Today we’re showing you our favorite ways to pair them up with stripes and colored denim.
On Alison – Jeans: Similar/Shirt: Same/Sneakers: Same/Denim Jacket: Same
On Aubrey – Jeans: Similar/Sweatshirt: Similar/Sneakers: Same
If you want a great pair of no-show socks, we love these. They don’t slide down and are thicker than most sock liners.
Here are some other cute and classic sneaker options.

[Keds Champion Canvas]
[Superga Cotu]

So I had this whole post put together for today that took days to work on, then at the last minute I had to cancel it because of a technical issue. Time for plan B!
Oh well, that’s just fine because now I get a chance to share some of the awesome outfits happening over in the Spring Style Me Challenge.
On Monday, the first outfit of the 21 days was released. It contained four of the eighteen pieces from the spring wardrobe shopping list – a denim jacket, button down shirt, white jeans and leopard flats.
DAY ONE OUTFIT
Denim Jacket + Button Down + White Jeans + Leopard Flats
Here’s how I styled it.
Some of the challengers did exact recreations of the inspiration outfit but a lot came up with some really creative pairings. That’s what I love about this group – everyone is showing their style by making the challenge outfits their own.
Here’s how two of the challengers (ironically both named Lisa) perfectly paired it up.
If you want to see how the rest of the challengers styled it, then I guess you’re going to have to come join us! There’s still time to sign up. Go HERE to sign up and get immediate access to your shopping list and the outfits. No worries if you don’t have all of the pieces, we have plenty of improvisers in the group. You’ll be in good company.

For this month’s Mother/Daughter Style post, Cavender’s outfitted the girls and me with some western wear. Yee haw! If you don’t know Cavender’s then you don’t know western wear. They are a family-owned retailer started in 1957 and are synonymous with the well-dressed Texan.
Even though I’ve lived in Texas for the past (almost) eighteen years, I was raised in Pennsylvania. Western wear was all new to me when I moved here. At my first job out of college, I got invited to go country line dancing (out of body experience) and then to my first western-themed charity event. The tight jeans, cowboy boots and western shirts were like something out of a movie!
Fast forward to today and I’m totally comfortable rocking my own pair of cowgirl boots. I love how Cavender’s offers modern western wear, like the skirts and jeans we’re wearing in today’s post, along with more traditional items.
The girls and I were easily able to find cute outfits with a fun bit of western flair.

It’s a spring throwback today on GYPO. So what exactly does that mean? Well, it means that I’m revisiting some of my favorite spring outfits from last year. Why? Because I’m irked with Mother Nature after realizing that, last year at this time, we were full-fledged into spring weather. Craig and I had our patio furniture out, we had started planting our flower beds and I was wearing open toed shoes again.
But not this year. No, I’m still waiting to put away my riding boots and beginning to wonder if it’s ever going to get and stay warm.
The good news is that I’ve gotten plenty of outfit ideas from last year’s looks. Most of these trends are here to stay for another year and you’d better believe that I’ll be wearing them again.
Here are five of my favorite looks from last spring.
1. Military Jacket and Boyfriend Jeans
[Jacket: Caslon/Jeans: Gap/T-shirt: Similar/Shoes: Steve Madden]
2. Denim Shirt and Maxi Skirt
[Denim Shirt: H&M/Tank: Mossimo/Skirt: Similar]
3. Colorful Pattern Play
[Cardigan: Mossimo/T-shirt: Old Navy (Similar)/Pants: Gap (Similar)/Sandals: Target]
4. Blazer, Stripes and Boyfriend Jeans
[Blazer: c/o Wallis/Jeans: Gap/Shirt: Similar/Scarf: Similar/Shoes: Steve Madden]
5. Neutral with Pops of Color
[Shirt: Similar/Pants: Similar/Clutch: Sold Out/Shoes: Similar]
