Paris Vacation Packing List – 20 Pieces

There’s just a few more days until my 16 year-old daughter and I head to Paris to celebrate her birthday.  Aubrey turned 16 last month and got a big surprise in this box – an itinerary and tickets for a mother/daughter trip to Paris and London. Read the original post to hear more about it, it’s a dream come true for both of us.

Well, spring break is (finally) almost here and we’ll be heading out in a few days.  As promised, I’ve put together my actual packing list for our trip.  We’ll be doing lots of sightseeing, shopping and walking, plus taking a day trip to London.  (P.S.  Thanks to ALL of you for the incredible travel tips in the original post!)  The forecast is looking awesome for this time of the year – upper 50’s and plenty of sunshine.

Believe it or not, I did almost no shopping for this trip.  All of these outfit basics were already in my closet thanks to doing GYPO Style Challenges this past year.  I don’t just put these style challenges together, I live by them too.  Casual outfits are all that we’ll need since we won’t be dressing up for anything. I’ll also be packing jewelry (long and short necklaces, earrings and a watch), an umbrella, a tote bag, a cross body bag and rain gear.

If you like this packing list, be sure to pin it.  Although this packing list is for Paris and a day trip to London, it would also work for a fall or spring trip to other destinations like NYC and Chicago. This only includes seven days’ worth of outfits but I’m confident you could put together two weeks or more just from these pieces.

What an awesome trip! You will love it! My only concern is your travel outfit for the trip home. European women don’t typically wear workout wear unless they’re working out. I wouldn’t wear anything that advertises that you’re American–especially with all the current world tensions. I also always pack a pashmina when I travel. I use it as a blanket or pillow on the plane. It doesn’t take up any room in your bag and then you don’t have to use the dirty airline ones. 🙂 Have a wonderful time! I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures!

Love all your choices but suggest leaving one of the pair of boots behind and packing a pair of VERY comfortable but still chic shoes instead – preferably ones with some sort of arch support. You will want to walk EVERYWHERE in Paris and London and you don’t want to be slowed down by sore feet! I usually take a pair of Clark’s flats that look cute enough for day but still keep my feet from hurting. Agree with the poster regarding your outfit for the flight home. If anything, i’d switch and wear the most comfortable outfit for the flight over since it’s likely overnight. HAVE FUN!!

Awesome list Alison, love those outfits. You and your daughter will have such a great time. I took mine to Italy at that age and we both still remember that trip fondly. You might want to pack another pair of great walking shoes. There is a LOT of walking to be done.

It sounds like a very interesting trip, I’m sure you will have a lot of fun. Of course, I’m partial to London: I find in infinitely more interesting than Paris. Maybe because London is a bit rough around the edges, gritty, and loud… compared to Paris, that is.

Thank you Tina. I’ll have to place London in my list of places to experience.

You will look great! I like all the combinations.

My experience is, that, no matter what you´re wearing, you´ll always feel like a tourist as soon as you see the Parisian women. I think they are born with their style and it´s impossible to copy. Sometimes it´s just a luxury handbag or THAT pair of shoes they´re wearing. I can´t explain, but you´ll see.
I also agree with the other post regarding your outfit for the flight back. In Germany most people dress very comfy but no workout wear. I´d go for leggings or comfy jeans like your outfit for the first day.
And I would take the boots. It may be still cold in Paris and London. The weather in Paris in March is unpredictable. I´ve had 41 to 68 degrees F during one weekend trip.

Have the greatest time ever! Mother/daughter traveling is wonderful!

Oh my gravy!!!!!! You are a lifesaver. My husband and I are going to France and Belgium in May for our third anniversary and I’ve been so nervous about what to pack…I usually over pack and then have to lug that huge suitcase up and down the metro stairs. This will definitely make my life easier. Thank you!!!

Alison, I would love to know how the trip went…clothes-wise! I saw the follow-up post with all the gorgeous pictures but would love to read how the pieces worked out on your trip, if there was anything you wished you had brought or didn’t need, how the boots & shoes did for all the walking, etc. I know this post is from back in March but was just curious about your thoughts as we are going to London and Ireland for a week in April. Thanks!

    • Alison

Hey Cristi! The trip was downright amazing. Clothes wise, I used every piece in my suitcase and stuck to the plan. It worked out wonderfully. I used my loafers for walking but wore my riding boots and nicer shoes to dinner. I’d use this capsule again for a similar trip. It was nice to have the layering options too since we encountered both warmer and cooler temps. Hope you have a wonderful time!
