Hey pretties! As many of you already know I started my winter/holiday break last week. This is a tradition that started a few years back when our oldest went off to college. When the whole family is home for the holidays, my #1 goal is to make space and be fully present with them. The best way to do that is to cut back on everything including blogging, social media and e-mail. Even though I LOVE my job, it’s always something I look forward to and so does my family! Plus I come back from my break refreshed and ready for all of the exciting projects planned in the new year.
I scheduled the beginning of my time off this year to coincide with our son Devon’s college graduation. Over the weekend he got his B.S. in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry. It’s been a long, challenging road but we couldn’t be prouder. Not going to lie, we’re also more than a little happy to have one less tuition payment!
This outfit is a prime example of why it’s important to have some classic investment pieces in your closet. I didn’t stress a bit over what to wear to his winter graduation. Every piece in this outfit will never go out of style and can be worn for many years.
This seamless Italian cashmere wrap was gifted to me from EILEEN FISHER and I’ve worn it every day since it arrived. It’s definitely an investment piece but I’m sure I’ll get so much wear out of it. I’ve already thrown it on over everything from my workout clothes to this sweater dress that I wore to graduation.
The holidays are a time for focusing on what really matters— to make space for the special people in your life, including you! EILEEN FISHER’s guide to effortless giving helps you make space to enjoy the holidays.
If you’re looking for a great gift idea, EILEEN FISHER has some gorgeous investment quality ponchos and wraps for every woman on your list. Get them for 60% off plus free 2-day shipping on orders over $200. Here are a few of my favorite pieces.
Big thanks to EILEEN FISHER for sponsoring this post and making it easier to make space this holiday season!
Get Your Pretty On Style Challenges have many wonderful benefits. Shopping lists make shopping quick and easy. Daily Outfit Formulas take decision making out of an already busy morning routine and the occasional use of trendy pieces helps create a safe way to stretch your comfort zone just as far as you are willing to go.
All of those are incredible reasons to join, but I think my favorite thing about these Style Challenges is that I am learning. Learning about style, learning how to wear each piece and learning how to pair items together.
Beth, a GYPO Pretty, says it best, “I am definitely finding my own sense of style through these style challenges!”
We’ve invited Style Challenge Members to share their spin on the Day Seven Outfit. As usual, the results were awesome. Each woman has put her own spin on collecting the items that work best for her. You’ll notice that learning is a common theme.
Gabi wears a size 2. Gabi says, “Since I own two plaid dresses, I decided to forgo buying a floral print and used what I already had in my closet! When the formula calls for a patterned dress, don’t feel you have to shop for a new piece, Alison encourages shopping your closet!”
Ruth wears a size 2. She says, “I’m a little short for the midi style but loved the floral combination with boots! It’s been so fun to connect and get style ideas from such a great group of women!”
Terri wears a size 8. Terri shares, “I’ve learned to love dresses as they can be worn year round. I have now worn this dress through 3 seasons by changing out shoes and adding or removing layers. Since this dress is a trendier piece, I didn’t spend a lot of money on it. Thanks to GYPO, I know I should splurge on more classic pieces and save on the trendier ones.”
Melissa wears a size 24.

Heather wears a size 18. She says, “I loved that this allowed me to extend dresses into fall & winter while staying warm! I like how it (GYPO Style Challenge) shows me how to pair items I normally wouldn’t put together, makes me feel like I have a much larger wardrobe.”
Christina wears a size 12. Christina tells us how she made this dress with a cardigan work for her, “I shopped my closet and wore a dress I already had, instead of buying a new one. I also added tights because it was chilly that day.”
Mary Beth wears a size 14.

Danielle wears a size 2. She says, “I loved learning how to wear my riding boots with a printed dress rather then just wearing them with jeans.”
Beth wears a size 16. Beth says, “I often take a pass on dresses. For this challenge, I’m glad I was pushed out of my comfort zone and found a dress I love!”
Tiffany wears a size 18. Tiffany shares her experience finding that perfect dress, “I have difficulty finding dresses that flatter my shape…clingy doesn’t work, but loose and billowy also isn’t the best look for me. So I was very excited to find this dress that was the perfect balance of fitted enough to not add volume but loose enough to not cling in the wrong places!”
Nora wears a size 0. Nora shares, “I would never have thought to wear a cardigan and boots with this dress to make it work for fall. So glad for the inspiration!”

Have you tried a GYPO Style Challenge yet? Nora shares why she loves being a part of the Seasonal Challenges. “I am so appreciative of the ideas to rework my wardrobe. I usually don’t like repeating outfits, so challenges give me more options to use my pieces. I love the formulas so I can easily replace pieces for a whole new look.”

One of my goals is to help make your whole family festive and fashionable and make your life just a wee bit easier this holiday season. Over the next week I’ll be featuring some easy holiday and winter looks for women and kids. Today we’re kicking it off with some holiday outfits for boys that they’ll actually want to wear.
Boys are a little trickier especially when it comes to holiday themed outfits. I’ll never forget the Christmas when our son Devon was around 10 years old and called his holiday outfits “dorkfits”. My mom’s heart got broken that year (but in his defense, they WERE pretty bad).
Back then I didn’t have J. Crew Factory and all of the stylish, non-dorkfit holiday options for boys. Their pieces for little guys are so dapper that my husband Craig wants adult versions of them. Lucky for him, J. Crew Factory has great holiday finds for the whole family, including dads. They also strike that perfect balance between quality and affordability that makes us moms really happy!
In my experience, I’ve found there are three types of holiday outfits for our kids – a comfortable, casual look for activities like school parties, a dressier yet still comfortable version for occasions like family get togethers and a dressed up option for church and fancier events.
Let’s get started with a fun look that’s perfect for school.
I always resented buying dress clothes for my kids that only got worn one time. The pieces in this simple outfit – a white dress shirt, plaid tie, chino pants and belt can be reused throughout the year. Just swap out the tie.

Big thanks to J. Crew Factory for sponsoring this post and helping the whole family look our best this holiday season!
During our recent reader survey you let us know that you are looking for more work wear inspiration. Today we are happy to deliver! If you’re new around here, Style Your Budget helps you shop smarter by showing you one outfit prompt styled at four drastically different price points.
One of the things that makes Style Challenges work so well is that we don’t provide you the clothes. That may sound like a bad thing at first, but we promise it isn’t. By providing you with a style prompt rather than a box of clothes, you get to decide what the outfit ultimately looks like (and how much it costs).
If you already own all the pieces in the prompt you can shop your closet for a free outfit. Woohoo! However, if you need to fill in a gap in your wardrobe you get to choose which store, and more importantly how much you are going to spend, to fill in that gap.
We always recommend investing in the best quality that your budget allows when it comes to your closet staples. However, if you are trying out new trends, fluctuating between sizes, or need a more budget conscious option we hope this post has helped you see that you truly can feel confident in what you are wearing no matter where you shop or how much you can afford to spend.

Fall Work Outfit #1
Ruth says: “I love the way the Fall Work Wear Capsule helps me shop my own closet and put together complete outfits in new ways I would have never tried on my own. I thought this was a strictly spring skirt until it was paired with a great burgundy blouse. Love it!”

Kristie says, “I really liked the printed bottom option for this work wear outfit and it was easy to dress it up for my office by incorporating a blazer and a pair of muted print dress pants. I decided to use a burgundy flat as my neutral shoe to incorporate some color and it paired well with the printed bottoms.”

Danielle says: “Right now fashion has become my hobby and the GYPO challenges have given me that opportunity to have fun with this hobby. I do not have the time with caring for a 2-year-old son and working full time to have a hobby that I can enjoy on the side. Hopefully, I will in the future. But for now, I’ve used GYPO challenges as my hobby since I’ll then have the ability to look trendy and have outfits that appear complete.”

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.
Chosen Faith November 19, 2019
GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
