Olive + Burgundy Fall Outfit

Olive + Burgundy Fall Outfit

Here’s proof that dreams really do come true, I have my very own page this month on J. Crew Factory’s web site!!!

Besides the obvious of being the coolest thing EVER, this is really personally significant to me for three reasons.

  1. You’re never too old to go after your dreams. It sounds so corny and cliche but in this case it’s also very true! At 45 years old, I’m getting some of the best opportunities of my life. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have a brand like J. Crew Factory want to feature an over 40 influencer. There aren’t a lot of brands out there doing this so let’s show some love to the ones who represent women in this life stage!
  2. I’ve taken a different path with blogging. Other bloggers who started out with me have blown past me and I wish I could say that it didn’t bother me, but sometimes it does. Instead of going the traditional blogger route of always buying new things and sharing affiliate links, I’ve represented my real life by shopping my closet and showing you how to do the same. As you can imagine, this has not only hurt my opportunities with brands but also my number of followers and yes, income. What has resulted is a smaller, yet completely loyal following of women who make up this tribe that I wouldn’t trade for the world! Brand opportunities are the icing on the cake.
  3. J. Crew Factory is where I buy most of my clothes so this is truly authentically ME. Their pieces are great quality yet affordable and they always have awesome sales. They hit the right mix between classic and on trend without trying too hard – which is what I strive for with my personal style.

On that note, today I have a fall outfit for you from J. Crew Factory (but, of course!) with a lightweight olive sweater, my new favorite pair of high waisted jeans (seriously SO comfy!) and my new embroidered mules. I used the colors in my mules for inspiration for this olive and burgundy outfit. So very fall like!

If you’re looking to upgrade your everyday jewelry pieces, we have some new items in the Alison + Aubrey Fine Line that I’ve been wearing non-stop. These uncut natural diamond earrings are so pretty and dainty and they pair perfectly with this diamond chip necklace.

2018 Favorite Fall Nail Colors

2018 Favorite Fall Nail Colors

by Jessica Pigza

I don’t know about you all, but I am absolutely loving the colors this season! I didn’t realize just how ready I actually was to transition from the bright, vibrant colors of summer until I started seeing all the deep, rich, jewel tone colors of fall! And one of my favorite ways to add these beautiful colors is to start with my nails! Yes, it is time for me to remove the bright pink and dive into something a little deeper and richer. Below are my top five nail colors I can’t wait to wear this season!

1. Emerald Green

This is one of my favorite jewel tone colors and is also the color of one of my favorite shirts, yet I have never worn it on my nails. This is a color that should compliment most of my fall wardrobe and will be perfect even transitioning into winter.

2. Oxblood

We’re swapping out our bright, fire engine reds for something a little deeper. Oxblood is similar to burgundy but has more of a brownish undertone instead of a blackish purple making it perfect for this time of year.

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in Jezebel

3. Burnt Orange

If you watched Alison’s Fall Fashion Q&A Facebook Live then you also learned that Burnt Orange is actually considered a neutral! That means it will go with anything and I’m so excited to try it out!

OPI It’s a Piazza Cake

Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Couture Nail Polish 61 Brun Henne

Orly Valley Of Fire

4. Gray

Gray is slowly taking over and I mean that in a good way. From home decor and kitchen cabinets to jeans and accessories, so why not our nails too? This season we are swapping out nude tones for gray ones and I love that there are so many different shades, everyone is sure to find one that goes well with their skin tone.

5. Navy

Black is very popular this fall but if you’re not ready to go that dark then navy is an amazing option. It’s a great color that looks good on many skin tones and will complement any fall outfit.

OPI Iconic Infinite Shine Russian Navy

Revlon Nail Enamel 490 Urban

What colors are you excited to try? It was a tough decision but I decided to officially welcome fall with Burnt Orange!

Style Your Budget: Fall Closet Staples

Style Your Budget: Fall Closet Staples

We love talking closet staples around GYPO and today’s edition of Style Your Budget covers just that! If you’re new around here, Style Your Budget helps you shop smarter by showing you one outfit prompt styled at five drastically different price points.

One of the things that makes Style Challenges work so well is that we don’t provide you the clothes. That may sound like a bad thing at first, but we promise it isn’t. By providing you with a style prompt rather than a box of clothes, you get to decide what the outfit ultimately looks like (and how much it costs).

If you already own all the pieces in the prompt you can shop your closet for a free outfit. Woohoo! However, if you need to fill in a gap in your wardrobe you get to choose which store, and more importantly how much you are going to spend, to fill in that gap.

This outfit is a fall look from the Closet Staples Casual Capsule Wardrobe Builder. (FREEBIE ALERT – Get the shopping list + 4 outfits from this capsule here.)

By Jill Riley

As we jump into fall and kick off the Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe, this Style Your Size post has become the perfect example of just how flexible Get Your Pretty On Style Challenges really are.

Whether you are brand new to GYPO or if you’ve been around since the beginning, seeing how these Pretties have styled their size is sure to be inspiring.

Thank you so much to the Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe members who have shared their version of the Day One Outfit of the Day.

Style Your Size: Follow the Daily Prompt Exactly

For some members, following the prompt exactly as it’s laid out works best. The members featured in this section may have mixed up one of two of the items, but for the most part, their outfit matches Alison’s suggestion perfectly.

Terri says, “I love how the A+A tassel necklace takes this outfit up a notch!”

Style Your Size: Substitute One Piece

One of the many great things about the Style Challenges is that you can substitute pieces. Alison offers substitution ideas within the program. For these members, a simple swap of the cardigan color makes the outfit a great fit for them!

Beth says, “I love creating multiple outfits from each daily outfit prompt. I am always finding new ways to wear what I already have in my closet! The GYPO program and community have helped me feel beautiful at my size (16 or so) and my age! (60!!)”.

Style Your Size: Subtract a Piece

Many members are finding fall temperatures where they live to be too warm for layers. As the members in this section show, subtracting the cardigan leaves them able to enjoy the outfit even when it’s warm out.

Laura says, “I didn’t use the cardigan because I live in Sunny Florida where the heat index was over 100 today”.

Style Your Size: Use the Prompt as a Guide

Alison advises that you shop your closet first. Sometimes that means the Daily Outfit Prompt becomes more of a guide than a strictly followed recipe. The members in this section show just how together an outfit can be, even if the prompt isn’t followed exactly.

Jill (that’s me) says, “I am both in the process of losing weight and on a pretty strict budget. I’ve challenged myself to follow the Daily Outfits from what I already have in my closet this time around.”

Team GYPO’s Word of Mouth – Beauty Products

Team GYPO’s Word of Mouth – Beauty Products

by Jessica Pigza

When you find something you love, it’s hard not to share it with everyone you know. At GYPO we feel the same way which is why we are so excited about our new monthly feature, Team GYPO’s Word of Mouth! Here you’ll learn even more about our fabulous team, what we love, what we’re wearing, tips, tricks and more. Because if you’re anything like us, word of mouth recommendations from a trusted friend or source is still the best way to find out about all things wonderful, and we are beyond grateful for all our Pretties who turn to GYPO as a trusted source.

This month we decided to ask our team:

“What is your favorite, go-to beauty product?”

Alison – IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact

“Picking one favorite beauty product is like asking me to choose my favorite child! Lately, I’d have to say that it is IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact foundation. It’s a full coverage foundation, but it’s also a solid serum, so it’s really smooth and never cakey. Plus, it has all kinds of healthy skin ingredients in it. Being over 40, I expect my cosmetics to do more for my skin than just cover it up. This stuff has antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and hydrolyzed collagen. It also has SPF 50+ and gives just the right amount of radiance. What’s not to love?”

Suzannah – Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Daily Sensitive Skin Moisturizer

“My go-to beauty product is Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Daily Sensitive Skin Moisturizer. I really didn’t need to moisturize my skin or even condition my hair until I was about 20. I have fairly oily skin, so I grew up being very hesitant to use any sort of lotion on my face. Ultimately, I realized that using a daily moisturizer is critical to the dermatological health of my skin and eventually found this product after trying some thicker lotions that I didn’t like as much. This one is fantastic because it absorbs quickly into your skin and is a great primer layer before you apply makeup. (Target’s knock-off brand is also just as effective)”

Lauren – Maybelline® Eye Studio® Brow Define + Fill Duo

“My favorite, go-to beauty product that makes me feel like a million bucks is the Maybelline® Eye Studio® Brow Define + Fill Duo defining stick in Deep Brown. I love a bold arch in my brow and have been testing out different brow pencils including the highly recommended Anastasia Brow Whiz pencil and yet I keep coming back to the Maybelline® Eye Studio® Brow Define + Fill Duo stick. For starters the price is right. A great beauty product that I can grab for less than $10 is always a win in my books. The stick is called a duo because it’s a 2-in-1 stick with a defining pencil on one end and a foam tip filling powder on the other end. I sculpt my brow using the defining pencil and a spoolie, then use the foam tip powder on the inner part of my brows for a more natural, blended look. I was hesitant when I started penciling my brows back in 2014 but now I feel like my makeup is incomplete if I skip this step. Confession – sometimes I practice penciling my brows at night right before I’m going to wash my face. As they say, practice makes perfect!”

Jill – L’Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara

“I’ve never worn a lot of makeup, as I get older I’m even less interested in spending time putting makeup on. I usually wear a little mascara and foundation. The mascara I love is L’Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara. I used it for years and then tried switching. I can’t even remember why I stopped, but I had terrible luck with everything else I tried. The mascara would either smear by the end of the day or be really hard to wash off. Sometimes both problems would be true … how is that even possible? About six months ago, I decided to try Double Extend again. After all the trial and error, I appreciate it so much more. It goes on easily, looks nice, stays put all day and washes off very easily. No fuss makeup is my kind of makeup.”

Coty – Josie Maran Argan Exfoliating Cleansing Powder

“I have many favorites, but most beauty trends come and go. The one product that has been in my life for years is the Josie Maran Argan Exfoliating Cleansing Powder. It’s seriously the BEST exfoliator and has made a dramatic improvement to my acne-prone skin. I consider it microdermabrasion in a bottle! I use only 2-3 times per week on cleansed, damp skin. I use a dime size (a little goes a long way, so the bottle can last me a year if I’m lucky!) and add a few drops of water in my palm, then I rub in a circular motion across the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. I pay extra attention to the blackhead zones, and I even exfoliate my lips. Watch out for your eyes when you rinse, as it’s very gritty and can scratch them. If you have dry skin, finish with a few drops of the Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil, which makes your skin feel like a million bucks!”

Kathryn – Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 35

“Lately, I find myself fascinated with anti-aging and learning how I can improve my skin. I love that I made a commitment to my skin regimen and that I am protecting my skin as much as I can. My favorite go-to beauty product is the Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 35. I love the way it feels on my skin, it’s lightweight and applies like a lotion. It also has a smooth finish which makes it easy to use as my daily foundation. The added bonus – it protects my face from the harsh UV rays. For my quick five minute routine, I first cleanse with the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, pat dry and apply the Daily Correct CC Cream and finish off with the Supergoop! MintFusion Lip Balm SPF 30 on my lips before heading out the door! It’s an effortless routine and works for me!”

JessicaUrban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

“I know I’ve said this before but I will say it again, Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original by Urban Decay is by far my favorite beauty product! It’s so easy to use and it keeps my eyeshadow from melting or creasing. I have oily skin and keeping my eye makeup in place and looking great was short lived until this product. Now I can do my makeup in the morning and my eyes still look awake and put together in the evening, even though in reality, I am ready for bed.”

Your turn! What is your favorite, go-to beauty product?
