Three Ways to Wear Culottes with Confidence

Three Ways to Wear Culottes with Confidence

If culottes conjure up images of your grandmother, then it’s time to revisit the trend with a fresh perspective. They’re an incredibly versatile alternative to shorts and skirts and a lot more comfortable too.  Check out these three easy ways to wear culottes for some major inspiration.

Three Ways to Wear Culottes

1. Dressy Event

Culottes make a great dressy alternative to dresses and skirts in the summer.  Pair up a fluid pair of black culottes with a silk tank, a strappy heel and a simple collar necklace for a classy, chic ensemble.

2.  Sunday Brunch

Tuck a simple black tank into some neutral woven culottes for a laid back look that’s easy like Sunday morning. Finish it out with a bright pair of sandals and a few colorful layering bracelets.

3.  Around Town

Running errands never looked so good.  Start with a pair of navy linen culottes, throw on a simple white t-shirt and slip on some navy sneakers.

Five Ways to Wear White Jeans this Spring

Five Ways to Wear White Jeans this Spring

If I had to choose just ONE pair of jeans to wear all spring long, it would have to be my white jeans. Honestly, I wear them at least twice every week, sometimes even back to back days!  OK, maybe that’s TMI but I just love them that much.

Over the weekend, I hosted a spring trends fashion show and my community manager Bebe and I both sported our white jeans!  She paired hers up with neutrals and I wore mine with the pieces in outfit #4 (below).

Today I’m sharing five of my favorite ways to pair up my white jeans.  If you’re following me over on Instagram, you may have already seen a sneak peek of these looks (if not, hop over there and follow along!)

1. Blush Blouse + White Jeans

2.  Mint Tee + White Jeans

3.  Print Blouse + White Jeans

4.  Teal Blouse + White Jeans

5.  Gray Tee + White Jeans

My all-time favorite white jeans are this pair.  The denim is thick enough to disguise anything I don’t want showing through my jeans and they don’t stretch out with wear.  They also come in a few different fits, so you’re sure to find the pair that’s perfect for you.

It’s Your Turn:  What’s your favorite brand of white jeans and how are you pairing them up?  Tell me in the comments.

Fall Preview: Five Ways to Wear Fringe

Fall Preview: Five Ways to Wear Fringe

Wondering what fall’s latest trends will be?  I’ve got you covered. Over the next few weeks on GYPO, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite fall fashion and what you need in your closet to be on trend.  (There’s also going to be an exclusive fall fashion series only for my newsletter subscribers which you can sign up for HERE).

I have to admit though, I’m not so much a trendy dresser as I am into classic pieces that stand the test of time.  But I do like to add in some pieces to keep things fresh each season.  One of the biggest trends for fall that I’ve seen in every store is fringe.

I’m just going to be honest here, boho style is usually not my thing.  I learned to embrace my kimono over the summer but fringe is, well, on the fringe in my style book.  Maybe it’s because I was born in the 70’s and little baby Alison had a bad experience with it that somehow got repressed.  Honestly I don’t know what I have against it.

When I polled the style challengers on some fall trends they’d like to try, surprisingly fringe was mentioned quite a bit.  Some loathe it while others can’t wait to give it a whirl.  It’s one of those polarizing trends for sure.

If you’re willing to give it a try, keep these simple rules in mind.

Rules for Wearing Fringe:

1.  If you wore it in another generation and hated it the first time around, you are exempt this time.

2.  Wear only one piece of fringe at a time, otherwise you risk looking like Stevie Nicks.

3.  Don’t wear it around machinery or other places where you can get it caught and cause bodily injury.

OK, all kidding aside, I was able to find five ways that I might even dare to dip a toe in this trend.  Time to get over my fringe fears once and for all.  Here are five ways to wear fringe, even if it’s not your thing.

1.  Kimono – Pair a pretty floral kimono with your favorite tee and jeans for a boho vibe that’s totally on trend for fall.

2.  Purse  – One of the easiest and cutest ways to add fringe to any outfit, a cognac fringe purse adds just the right amount.

3.  Scarf – If you’re still working your way up to the trend, a fringe scarf is a safe bet.

4.  Necklace – The subtle fringe detail in this necklace dresses up your basic jeans and tee.

5.  Ankle Boots – Ankle boots with fringe details are one of the hottest items for fall.  If you get nothing else on this list, consider snagging a pair of these.

It’s Your Turn:  Does fringe make you cringe or are you on board with this fall trend?

Three Ways to Wear Lace (Without Looking Like a Teenager)

Three Ways to Wear Lace (Without Looking Like a Teenager)

Think the lace trend is just for teens?  So did I.  But today’s post is going to prove us both wrong.

Last week I was out doing some spring/summer shopping for my 16 year old daughter Aubrey when I noticed that the juniors’ department was overflowing with lace everything.  Tees, tanks, shorts, dresses, you name it.  There was lace everywhere.  I thought to myself, “cute trend, but I can’t pull that off”.

Then I strolled over to the “age-appropriate for Alison” section (it’s really a thing) and saw a few cute lace and eyelet pieces there too.  Immediately my mind started piecing together outfit scenarios and I realized that I really can pull it off and so can you!

Here are three totally mom-appropriate ways to wear lace.  (P.S.  Aubrey approves!)

1.  Lace T-shirt + Boyfriend Jeans + Sandals

Throw on some layered gold necklaces and grab a pretty crocheted tote to finish this outfit.

Change It Up:  Add nude heels and pearl accessories to take it up a notch for date night.

2.  Eyelet Top + Bright Pants + Wedges

Lace’s cousin eyelet is every bit as pretty. Tie this look together with a fun statement necklace and some wedges with a printed heel.

Change It Up:  Get double duty out of your eyelet top by pairing it with some printed shorts for an easy breezy summer look.

3.  Lace Shorts + Fitted Tee + Sandals

This updated nautical look stars lace shorts paired with a fitted tee and sea-worthy accessories.

Change It Up:  Tie up a soft chambray shirt and add neutral wedges and accessories.
