Five Ways to Style Leggings

Five Ways to Style Leggings

I started GYPO in an effort to get out of my yoga pants rut and I can honestly say I’ve come a long way. I love the feeling of confidence I get when I wear a put-together, polished outfit. That doesn’t mean I still don’t wear my yoga pants, I just don’t spend days in them like I used to. There are those days however where I want it all, I want the comfort of my yoga pants paired with a completely put-together look. Those days where the idea of putting on jeans just isn’t in the cards. We all have those days, right? So how do we have both comfort and style? The answer is a great pair of leggings. Leggings are an absolutely amazing combination of fashion and function. Plus, you can easily dress them up or dress them down. Leggings have such versatility that I was able to come up with 21 Days of Leggings outfits and I want to share them all with you in my FREE download.

Yes, I Said 21 Days of Leggings Outfits

Not only do I style 21 days of leggings outfits, but there’s also a shopping list to help you. Chances are you already have a lot of the items in your closet. But, if you don’t, you’re armed with a list of what you need to fill in the gaps. There’s no guesswork involved. I styled the outfits below using my favorite faux leather leggings. However, these looks will work beautifully with any black leggings, and for those days when jeans are the answer, mix and match these looks with them too. That’s the beauty of outfit formulas®, they are a base, a starting point. The more confident you get with your style, the more you’ll play around with them to make them your own. And seriously, that’s my favorite part. I love seeing the confidence pour out of the GYPO pretties!

Below is a small sample of the outfit formulas® you’ll see in the 21 Days of Leggings guide and how I styled them. So what are you waiting for? Download my FREE guide and show me your style! Tag your leggings looks on Instagram or the Pretties Facebook page with #gypooutfitformulas!

Option #1

Belted Cardigan + White Tank + Leggings + Leopard Flats

shop the look

For my first look, I’m styling my faux black leather leggings with a rusty/burnt orange belted cardigan I bought a few years ago. My white tank is from my closet and my leopard mules add the perfect pop of print. If it’s one of those days where you know you’re not leaving the house, you can easily swap in some cozy leopard print slippers. As I said above, all of these looks will coordinate with any black leggings.

Option #2

Moto Jacket + Striped Top + Leggings + Leopard Ankle Boots or White Sneakers

I have to say this is one of my favorite outfits using my faux leather leggings. This is a perfect example of how to dress up your leggings. My leather moto jacket is one of my investment pieces from a few years ago. Then I paired it up with one of the few striped shirts I have in my closet. I may have a slight striped shirt addiction. Finally, to finish off this look I added my leopard print boots for some fun pattern mixing!

Option #3

Neutral Sweater + White Tank + Leggings + Snake Print Shoes

shop the look

I’m switching it up with look number three and going a bit more casual. First, I opted for a neutral sweater. In this case, I choose a gray one that has a cute little twist detail in the front. I put a white tank top under the sweater and again paired it with my black leggings and styled it with some snake print slip-ons. If you’re not into snake print you can swap them out for some metallic slip-ons. And unfortunately, this sweater isn’t available anymore but this one is similar.

Option #4

Chambray Button-Down + White Tee + Leggings + Leopard Ankle Boots or White Sneakers

This leggings look has closet staples written all over it! Starting with my chambray shirt all the way to my white sneakers, everything in this look is directly from my closet. Remember, a polished look doesn’t have to be complicated. So don’t overthink it!

Option #5

Printed Cardigan + Black Tee + Leggings + Black Ankle Boots or White Sneakers

For look number five I decided to dress up my leggings again. This time I started with one of my tried and true outfit formulas® of black top, black bottoms, and paired that with my black boots. This is an absolutely amazing base that gives you plenty of options. Finally, I paired it with a printed cardigan as my topper however, you could easily incorporate any topper you like. Perhaps a printed boyfriend blazer or a utility jacket.

Hallmark Winter Wear Inspired by Holiday Movies 2020

Hallmark Winter Wear Inspired by Holiday Movies 2020

Although my Christmas trees have been up since November I was a little late to the party when it came to indulging in my favorite Hallmark Holiday movies and I have to say they did not disappoint, especially in the fashion department. Whether they were new for 2020 or ones I have enjoyed in years past, I still love seeing what the characters are wearing and picking out all the trends as well as the timeless closet staples.

A few years ago I did a blog about making your own Hallmark Holiday looks, and while I’m still inspired by what I call the Hallmark Outfit Formula, I felt drawn to the different winter silhouettes this year. For instance, all those amazing jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves. Got to love Hallmark winter wear! I love the colors as well as the neutrals plus a great coat can last you for years and can easily be changed up with the right winter accessories. Below are some of my favorite Holiday Hallmark winter wear styles and where you can get a similar look!

1. If I Only Had Christmas

The character of Darcy played by Candace Cameron Bure had an incredible amount of fashion choices in the movie If I Only Had Christmas. She wore some great Blackwatch plaid items plus numerous coats paired with all sorts of hats and headbands but this combination caught my eye. I love the slate gray, almost black double-breasted coat with the festive holiday plaid scarf topped off with a burgundy/wine color hat complete with pom pom. It looks so cozy, warm, and a classic that will never go out of style.

2. A Tree Grows in Colorado

Another movie I enjoyed was A Tree Grows in Colorado. There were many great coat selections but this one popped out at me. I am a sucker for a plaid scarf but I love the way it was paired with this chocolate wool coat with the wider lapels and the extra pop of color from the yellow knit beret is the perfect finishing touch!

3. A Shoe Addict’s Christmas

A hallmark winter wear inspired look with a light brown belted wool trench coat, an ivory knitted hat with an ivory scarf.

Although on the pricey side, one coat that I keep seeing over and over again is a belted wrap coat by Ted Baker. It comes in both a short and long version as well as a few different colors. Plus, it can be seen in one of my favorite movies, A Shoe Addict’s Christmas as well as Chateau Christmas and many others. It also comes in black, a beautiful pink/raspberry color, gray, and baby pink. I did find this one by Calvin Klein that’s similar and a little more budget-friendly.

4. A Nashville Christmas Carol

A white sherpa inspired coat with white gloves and scarf.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by how drawn I was to this monochromatic jacket, gloves, and scarf combination worn by Vivienne from A Nashville Christmas Carol. I think it’s the simple, clean look of the winter white coat with the white scarf and gloves that caught my eye. Her fantastic red lipstick adds the perfect pop of color but it would also look great paired up with some bright shoes!

5. If I Only Had Christmas

Okay so if you can’t tell by now I really loved the fashion choices for the movie If I Only Had Christmas and Candace Cameron Bure’s character always has fantastic winter wear. But what I really loved was the shawl collar on this jacket. Plus the pink was just a great winter color choice. While this coat wasn’t paired with the perfect hat or scarf in the movie, I decided to add them myself. What do you think of this pairing?

One Tunic Sweater Four Ways

One Tunic Sweater Four Ways

To say cropped and shorter sweaters are “having a moment” is an understatement. The past few years I’ve found it much harder to find longer tunic style sweaters. Since I’m a leggings junkie in the fall and winter months, this has been a wee bit frustrating. While my daughters can get away with the shorter tops with leggings look, it’s just one that I’ve never been comfortable with.

When I saw this rust textured tunic sweater earlier this fall I just KNEW it had to go onto the Outfit Formulas® fall capsule wardrobe shopping list. Many of you already have it and have given it rave reviews too. I can see why, it’s super soft, just the right weight, and comes in eight (!) different colors. The good news is that I’ll be wearing this well into winter as I start to transition into what I like to call “leggings season”.

It’s a shop your closet kind of post so pull out your favorite sweater and add closet staples to complete out each one of these looks!

*update: While the tunic sweater referenced is sold out, Old Navy still has a great selection of tunic sweaters this season. Check them out HERE!

Outfit Formula #1

Plaid Scarf + Tunic Sweater + White Jeans + Leopard Booties

White jeans for fall? Why not! There’s no good reason why you need to put them away after Labor Day. This closet staple can be worn year-round, yes even in winter, when paired up with warm and cozy layers.

Outfit Formula #2

Tunic Sweater + Black Jeans or Leggings + Leopard Booties

Don’t let the black jeans fool you, my heart belongs to my favorite faux leather leggings!

Outfit Formula #3

Tunic Sweater + Olive Jeans + Taupe Ankle Boots

Olive is a neutral and any of the eight colors this sweater comes in will pair up perfectly with your favorite olive jeans. Keep it simple with some taupe ankle boots.

Outfit Formula #4

Plaid Scarf + Tunic Sweater + Boyfriend Jeans + Taupe Ankle Boots

Can a longer sweater be worn with less fitted jeans? The answer is yes! Just make sure not to go with an all-over too baggy look. The pieces should be semi-fitted.

Low-Risk, High Results – 5 Ways to Easily Amp Up Your Look

Low-Risk, High Results – 5 Ways to Easily Amp Up Your Look

by Jessica Pigza

I have a confession, I have a fear of commitment. I’m not the biggest fan of trying new things that may be long lasting or even permanent. I get super nervous trying someone new to do my hair which is not good for someone who moves a lot. That’s also why I don’t have any tattoos and although I do want to try microblading on my thinning eyebrows, I’m afraid that I won’t like them so I’m perfectly happy continuing to fill them in using temporary methods. Don’t get me wrong, I do like to try new things but I prefer things that are more on the low risk side. What kind of risk taker are you? Are you daring or do you tend to shy away from new things? No matter what category you fall into the below ideas are low risk things you can try that can have a major impact on your look. If you try them and love them that’s awesome! And if you don’t, there wasn’t much risk or cost involved.

1. Try Red Lipstick

Red lipstick shouldn’t just be saved for special events but worn because you feel like it, because it’s Friday or because you just want to feel extra special. Red lipstick is fun but I will admit, a little intimidating, that is, until you find the right shade. I didn’t think I was able to wear red lipstick. I remember trying to wear my grandma’s shade when I was younger and I wanted to love it because she looked so amazing in it, but the truth is, I needed to go out and find my own shade. It did take a lot of trial and error but once I did I felt fierce and it was fun but it was also totally outside my comfort zone. That’s the funny thing about comfort zones though, only you know you’re pushing your comfort level, to everyone else you just look amazing! So go ahead, find your perfect shade of red and rock it!

2. Experiment with Hair Accessories

Really any hair accessories are in right now so you can’t go wrong. These days I tend to wear my hair up a lot and not to say I don’t love a good top knot or messy bun, but it sometimes feels really repetitive. By adding a cute headband, a scarf, or even a side braid going back into my bun or ponytail I can easily change up my look. If you want to add more volume to your messy bun you can try a faux hair scrunchie like this one.

3. Change Your Part

Okay, when I first heard about this I was dumbfounded. It’s so simple yet it’s something I never really thought about. Sometimes we’re so programmed to wear our hair the same way and let our part naturally occur but not only can trying a new part make your hair look fresh but it can also help add some additional volume because you’re forcing your root to lay a different direction. Below are some pictures I took when I finally discovered this simple yet impactful tip.

Deep Side Part vs. Center Part

4. Explore Fake Eyelashes

There are so many options when it comes to enhancing your eyelashes. There are mascaras with small fibers to build up your lashes, glue-on lashes, magnetic lashes, and professionally applied lashes. Whatever option you choose enhancing your lashes is another quick and easy way you can amp up your look. I recently went on a girls’ trip and my friend does lash extensions. I was more than willing to let her work her magic on me and now I’m in love. I didn’t go crazy but she was able to enhance what I already had. They look totally natural but now when I wake up I look awake even though I haven’t even had my coffee yet. They will last 3-4 weeks and while I’m not sure if I’m going to get them done again, I’m certainly going to look into the other eyelash options out there. I know Alison swears by her Kiss Lashes (#11) and applies them with black lash glue and they always look amazing!

5. Try a New Nail Polish

I’ve said it before but there’s just something about painting my nails that makes me feel girly and put together. I tend to stick to colors I know I love but every once in a while I do try a new color and nine times out of ten I end up loving it. And if I don’t, I’m only a few swipes of nail polish remover away from getting rid of it. Last week I got my nails done for the first time in a while and it was one of those times I decided I wanted something new. I tend to stick to shades of pink but this time I opted for a soft red with a coral undertone. For me, this is something I’ve never tried but I loved it so much I ended up ordering the shade to add to my own home collection of polishes. If you’re looking for some fun fall nail color inspiration, check out last week’s blog HERE.

Summer Work Wear Outfit Formula: White Pants + Black Sweater + Block Heels

Summer Work Wear Outfit Formula: White Pants + Black Sweater + Block Heels

This post sponsored by Ann Taylor.

Raise your hand if you’re heading back into the office this summer. Whether you’re going to be returning to your regular desk or continuing with business as usual onscreen at your next video call. I’ve got a sure fire winning work wear Outfit Formula coming at you today. The best part? It’s SUPER easy and even if you don’t have these exact pieces, I’m betting you can make it work using some from your closet!

Let’s start off with this black lace trim ruffle sleeve sweater because, let’s just get real here for a minute, it’s TOTALLY swoon worthy! When I unboxed it and saw these adorable embellished sleeves it was love at first sight. With trim in white and tan it’s a neutral lover’s dream come true.

This is my second pair of Marina wide leg pants from Ann Taylor and I’m even more in love this time around. The reason why? This pair is embellished with the slightest bit of embroidered trim to add interest without being too distracting. You know me and I always say “it’s all about the details!” This is especially true for summer fashion when it can be hard to add interest to an outfit without adding bulk or heat from layers. These two pieces pack plenty of interest with just a few subtle details!

Of course, we can’t skip the finishing touches! My white block heels are totally comfortable and work with everything from dress pants to shorts. Add in a pair of gold hoop earrings and a cuff bracelet and this outfit formula is complete.
