How I Spent $100 at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale + Picks for Juniors

Happy Friday pretties!  Oh happy day, my packages finally arrived from shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I wanted to do this post last week but I was still waiting for the mules to come and didn’t want to post an incomplete outfit.  But you got Craig’s anniversary sale picks for men in it’s place so I count that as a win!

My approach to this year’s sale was pretty much the same as usual. I didn’t really set a budget but I did try to focus on freshening up some basics and adding at least one new fall trend.

For my classic basics I went with this lightweight cardigan (which I can wear almost year-round) and a v-neck tunic t-shirt that will transition nicely between summer and fall.

For my fun fall trend, I couldn’t resist these embroidered velvet mules. When the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale catalog came out, these were the one item that I circled like a little kid at Christmas!  Fun shoes are becoming one of my favorite ways to add interest to an outfit.

My total for these three new items came to $120 but I had a $20 Nordstrom Note to apply bringing it down to just $100. These frayed hem jeans are also from Nordstrom (and my favorite pair) but I already had them so they didn’t factor into my total.  P.S. I apologize in advance if links are sold out. Some pieces are getting restocked, so keep an eye out!

Picks for Juniors

After Craig did his menswear post last week, my daughter Aubrey got her feelings a little hurt.  So I let her get in on the fun and pick out some of her favorite pieces for juniors from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  She had to one up her dad by going one step further and putting them into seven days of fall outfits!

I love that cardigan on you! I would love to wear one, but I’m carrying some extra weight and they always seem to hang so funny on me! Any suggestions for how to find a cardigan to fit your body type?

    • Julie Duran has a huge selection for plus size ladies. I’m a size 16 or so size pants and I love their shorter version of cardis. (no butt hugging!lol!)

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

Thank you! I’d recommend going with a really lightweight cardigan. They tend to hang a little better than the heavier ones. Also, you may want to look for one that hits around mid-thigh, not too long or too short.

Aubrey did a great job! I picked up a few staple pieces and some work out items for my daughter. I am sending a couple of items back and two were cancelled and out of stock. I was not super impressed with the sale the year. So many items were out of stock and back ordered. I am going to try and pick up that cardigan today! Thanks for this post!

  3. Lisa Richardson

I went a little bonkers buying cardigans but they are really all the “coat” I need out here in CA, so I’m good at rationalizing that way. We got my daughter the same one you purchased. What a great deal and I love the color! Happy Friday Allison!!!

    • Alison @ Get Your Pretty On

Thanks Lisa. Glad you found some cardigans you loved. I bet they work great for CA weather. Have a great weekend!

I had fun with the sale, but found I was more successful going into the store, and not just shopping online. Since I was elected to City Council, I needed some “business” pieces. I didn’t want to invest in suits because my term is only 2 years and who know if I will re-elected if I run again. For business: a Caslon blazer, NYDJ black trousers, a cashmere cardigan, a couple of necklaces and bracelets; for everyday: 2 lightweight cardigans, a tee, NYDJ straight leg jeans. I have been wanting a Ted Baker London wallet for some time, and so picked up a black one at the sale. BUT I found a patterned one on Nordstrom Rack for $30 less. So the original one is being returned. I purchased and returned 2 long cardigans and the mules. The long cardigans were not flattering on my figure, and while I agree that the mules are a great splash of color and definitely added interest, when I put them on, I felt like I was wearing embellished house slippers. But thanks to you my closet has upgraded and refined, and I have a better idea of my preferred style. 🙂

Love your picks for basics. I need some cardigans for Fall. Great choices for the teens too! Love your embroidered mules Allison! I am looking for a pair of shoes or booties this year for fall with embroidery. I refrained from the Sale, but wanted a leather jacket that was always sold out, so cie le vie!
    Enjoy your week!

Target has beautiful embroidered mules! I fell in love with them.
