I Feel Pretty | Distracted

I Feel Pretty | Distracted

A funny thing happened  on the way to the museum.  The British Museum, that is.

When my daughter Aubrey and I took our day trip to London while on spring break in Paris, we got a wee bit distracted.

Our intentions were good – walk a few blocks to the British Museum and get lost in there for a few hours.  We had just seen Night at the Museum:  Secret of the Tomb, so we were both eager to see where it took place.

Unfortunately a few blocks into our stroll, we stumbled upon a three story H&M and never quite made it there.

Instead, we spent those few hours distracted by cute clothes and accessories.  I came home with the gray scarf, graphic t-shirt and blush cardigan in today’s outfit.

Easy Fall Outfit | Cardigan, Scarf and Boyfriend Jeans

Easy Fall Outfit | Cardigan, Scarf and Boyfriend Jeans

The second week of outfits in the Fall Style Me Pretty Challenge is coming to a close today.  We’re having so much fun mixing and matching the pieces in this challenge.  Many of the women have commented that they are finding that they need less clothes as a result of participating in the challenges.  When you know lots of different ways to pair up your basics, you can actually spend a lot less.

Let’s take this basic outfit as an example.  All of the pieces in it are things you probably already have in your closet – a cardigan, layering t-shirt, print scarf, boyfriend jeans (or cuffed jeans) and oxfords (or flats).

Easy Outfits | Upgrade Your Jeans and Tee

Easy Outfits | Upgrade Your Jeans and Tee

Want a quick and easy way to upgrade your basic jeans and t-shirts for fall?  Just add a long cardigan and printed scarf.  This easy outfit formula is one that I turn to over and over.  The light layers are especially great for fall and spring.  Match a pair of colorful flats to one of the colors in the scarf to kick it up another notch.

I Feel Pretty | Playing Favorites

Even though it’s been a lot of fun looking forward to fall fashion, I’m just not quite ready to let go of my favorite summer outfits yet.  This chambray/maxi dress combo is one of them.  I’ve worn it to church, sightseeing in New Orleans, to doctor’s appointments, even to run errands.  It’s been my all-purpose summer look.  I’ll be retiring it soon but here’s one last tribute to one of my summer favorites.

Trend Watch | Emerald

When Pantone announced that emerald was the color of the year I thought “OK, cool.  Nice color.  Too bad I don’t own anything emerald.”  I planned to pick up something in emerald this spring.   But while digging around in my closet last week, I found this great top that I bought last year in the perfect shade of emerald.
