Holiday Hair | Turn Back the Clock

Holiday Hair | Turn Back the Clock

Thinning, dryness, breakage – unfortunately, these are my signs of aging hair.

Just a few short years ago, my hair was so thick that it had to get thinned out on a regular basis just to be able to style it.  Now my ponytail is about half the size it was then.  Even though I feel great for my age, there’s no denying that my hair is starting to show some signs of aging.

That’s why I was so excited to try out Pantene’s new AgeDefy line of anti-aging hair care products.  It’s the first and only line of anti-aging hair care from Pantene to fight multiple signs of hair aging:

  • Reduces breakage
  • Prevents split ends
  • Controls frizz
  • Controls unruly grays
  • Minimizes lackluster color
  • Minimizes a thin look
  • Minimizes dryness

The products in the line include Pantene AgeDefy Shampoo

Pantene AgeDefy Conditioner

Pantene AgeDefy Rejuvenating Hydration Masque

And, my favorite, Pantene AgeDefy Advanced Thickening Treatment

I’ve been using all four products in the line and am already noticing a big difference.  My hair is shinier than it’s been in years and it feels fuller and softer.  My split ends are even looking better!

HOLIDAY HAIR CHALLENGE

Holiday Hair CollageI was challenged by Pantene to show how I’m turning back the clock on my hair for the holidays.  I started by using Pantene’s AgeDefy Shampoo and Rejuvenating Hydration Masque, then applied the Advanced Thickening Treatment to my scalp while my hair was wet.

Pantene celebrity stylist Danilo recommends creating full styles that pull hair away from your face for a youthful look.  So I decided to to create a loose curls style with a headband.  After blow drying, I curled just the ends of my hair.  Starting about half way up, I wrapped large sections around a 1 1/2″ barrel curling iron. Next, I used my fingers to shake out and separate the curls.  I then slipped an elastic headband on, just behind my bangs.  Then I backcombed my hair at the crown to create a little height before smoothing it and spraying it lightly with hairspray.

Like many of you, we got hit by a big ice storm late last week.  The kids were off school for two days and our son’s football playoff game got postponed.  The entire Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex shut down.

But I didn’t really mind.  We stayed in, stayed warm and caught up on all of our favorite Christmas movies – like Christmas Vacation, The Grinch and Elf.  I also watched more than my share of cheesy Lifetime movies.  I watch more Lifetime in the month of December than the rest of the year combined.

We did manage to get out over the weekend for a photo shoot for our Christmas cards and to take blog photos.  Yes, that’s a sheet of ice I’m standing on!
This kind of weather calls for my favorite outfit combo – a cozy sweater, scarf, leggings and riding boots.  I’ve been living in this comfy cashmere Loose and Easy Vee sweater from Subtle Luxury.  The cashmere is so soft and luxurious.  It has an asymmetrical hemline and drapes beautifully.

Subtle Luxury features 100% California cashmere pieces that are worn and loved by celebrities like Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Cashmere Sweater SydneyThis oversized fringe scarf is also from Subtle Luxury.  It can be worn as an infinity loop (as shown) or a traditional scarf.  I love it’s size, softness and versatility.

The Next Thing You Need | Leggings Looks

The Next Thing You Need | Leggings Looks

A year ago, my second most popular and most pinned post to date went live –  A Week of Leggings Outfits.  It’s second only behind my Elf on the Shelf Ideas.

So what does that tell me?

You love leggings and elves!

I’ll spare you the elf ideas today (although our scout elf is making lots of mischief around here again this year).  But I am going to bring you some more leggings looks.

First, let’s start with the base – a GREAT pair of leggings.  As we all know, not all leggings are created equally.  It’s hard to find the right combo of coverage, stretch and comfort.

I’ve been touting my favorite pair for well over a year, the SPANX ‘Look at Me’ shaping leggings.

[SPANX ‘Look at Me’ Shaping Leggings]

These are the queen mother of all leggings – just the right amount of coverage and suck-in-ability, without being too constrictive.   My only complaint?  They’re a little bit pricey.

But I’m SO excited because I just discovered a pair for $20 less with a double layer waist band AND they come in FIVE different colors.  Best part – they’re at Kohl’s so you can use your coupons!

I present to you the Assets ‘Red Hot Label’ by Spanx shaping leggings.

[Assets ‘Red Hot Label’ by Spanx Shaping Leggings]

They come in black, brown, deep maroon, gray and indigo.  The toughest part is going to be deciding which colors to add to your collection.

Which are your favorites?

Assets leggingsI already have black so I’m thinking I’ll go with gray and brown next, then add indigo and deep maroon later.

Yesterday I made an accidental (unpleasant) discovery.  When the temps are freezing, leggings are NOT warm!  So I ran out to Target and bought these – Warm Essentials Fleece Lined Leggings.

They feel like a warm hug for legs and are very inexpensive!  They added a much-needed layer of warmth between the biting wind and my legs.

Now for some outfit ideas for pairing them up.

Outfit #1 – Dressy

Dressed up leggings?  Yes!  Just add a leather trimmed sweater and some cute ankle boots.

And what a deal I’ve found for you!

This hi-lo sweater with faux leather trim is on clearance with an additional 20% off at Lord & TaylorThat makes it just $16.70!  It comes in black or teal.  All sizes are in stock now so hurry if you want one!

Pair it up with gray leggings for some contrast with the black boots.

 Outfit #2 – Cozy

Leggings are the base for any cozy outfit creation.  Add a cable knit sweater and some comfy boots and you’re set for a day of lounging in style.  This pretty cable knit tunic with speckled threading comes in oatmeal or gray and it’s under $25.

All this look needs is a cup of hot cocoa.

Outfit #3 – Go-To

This go-to outfit for any occasion features a lace hem sweater that comes in gray or black.  The black would go great with deep maroon leggings.

These Coach riding boots are making me drool.  They’re really close to getting added to the Christmas list!

I Feel Pretty | Sixties Style

I Feel Pretty | Sixties Style

The Christmas season officially kicks off with our annual girls’ day at the ballet.  Last weekend, my mother, sisters, daughters and I went to see The Nutcracker.  We thoroughly enjoy our little girls’ only, no boys allowed, tradition.  Although the guys wouldn’t want to come anyway.  Instead they had some male bonding over wings, darts and football.  🙂

I wore this bright Sixties Sweater from Boden USA along with jacquard ankle pants and leopard heels.  My mom said I looked like Audrey Hepburn in this outfit.  I’ll definitely take that as a compliment!
