Best Fall Colors to Add to Your Wardrobe

Best Fall Colors to Add to Your Wardrobe

If you’ve followed me for any length of time you probably know that fall is my absolute favorite season! I look forward to it every year and welcome it with open arms! It’s the time of year where I finally feel some relief after enduring the intense Texas sun. Oh, and did I mention the amazing fashions and colors that fall brings?

Each fall brings amazingly bold and rich colors and this year is no exception! First, there are the beautiful jewel tones such as plum, rust and teal. I love the depth of richness these colors bring to my closet and for me, it’s a true sign that fall is coming.

But this fall also brings fantastic earth tones like ochre, tobacco and mustard. And while yes, for all intents and purposes you can say these colors are burnt orange, deep brown and dark yellow but don’t the other names just sound better? I love the warmth that these colors bring to any look.

And finally, we have what I call the bright colors. Yes, you read right, I did say bright colors are super on-trend this fall. Usually reserved for spring and summer, these colors are sticking around for another season.

So with all these beautiful colors, how to successfully incorporate them into your look can sometimes feel complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. The easiest way to start off is by thinking small then work from there. These colors don’t have to be your whole outfit but instead, see them as your pop of color. For the following looks, I started off with a pretty neutral base of closet staples and with a little help from Walmart, added from there. Have you checked out all of the fall styles at Walmart yet? They have everything from leopard and snake print to all of the latest color trends at awesome prices! Below are the colors of fall 2019 with some easy ways you can incorporate them into your closet and into your look!

Gray Top + Dark Wash Denim + Metallic Shoes + Hoop Earrings + Black Purse

The easiest way to take this simple look and make it fall fabulous is by swapping out the gray top for your fall pop of color. Any of the below tops pair perfectly with this combination.

Swapping out the metallic shoes for a cute pair of fall color flats or boots is also a super simple way to incorporate your fall colors. Check out these other options below!

Another great way to add some color to your look is with a top layer, either a jacket, vest or cardigan. Below are some beautiful pieces that would make an excellent addition to any closet!

Five Ways to Wear Leopard Pieces

Five Ways to Wear Leopard Pieces

High fives and fist bumps all around! Leopard is one of the hottest trends for fall 2019 and this girl couldn’t be more excited. You know I’m a leopard lover from WAY back. Even though it’s never really gone out of style, this pattern is definitely having a moment right now. The biggest change for this season is we’re seeing even bolder ways to incorporate it into our outfits. But what are some ways to wear leopard print?

Over the past years of Outfit Formulas® we’ve styled our fair share of leopard accessories – from shoes to scarves, belts, bags and even jewelry. But this year’s leopard pieces are a lot more daring with all-over pattern appearing on tops, bottoms, dresses, coats and more.

If styling a piece of leopard like this feels a little too adventurous, check out these five ways to wear leopard print that you can pair up with some of your favorite closet staples to be totally on trend this fall.

1. Leopard Skirt or Pants + Chambray Shirt

Tuck your favorite chambray button down into a pencil, pleated or flare skirt. Not a skirt girl? No problem! Try a pair of leopard printed jeans or pants. Add a statement necklace and heeled sandals for an instant outfit!

2. Leopard Sweater or Sweatshirt + Ankle Jeans

Leopard sweaters and sweatshirts are honestly my favorite cozy way to add a printed piece to your wardrobe. Pair it with two closet staples – ankle jeans and a pair of taupe ankle booties.

Leopard Sweater / Layered Necklace / Ankle Jeans / Ankle Boots

3. Leopard Blouse + Ankle Pants or Skirt

So perfectly polished for the office! A leopard blouse begs to be paired with ankle pants or a pencil skirt in just about any solid color. A tassel necklace is all you need to finish it out!

4. Leopard Raincoat + Striped Top + Black Jeans

For a fun new twist on your typical rainwear, just add leopard! This spotted topper is perfectly patterned mixed with a striped top, black jeans and some red rain boots.

5. Leopard Coat + Black Dress

Remember – leopard IS a neutral. Swap out your typical camel or black wool coat for this printed pretty. Wear it over a black sweater dress with tall black boots for a dressier look that works for office to date night. Don’t forget – leopard and tortoise were practically made for each other! Add these tortoise accessories to amp up any of these looks.

Super Soft Shorts for the Win!

Super Soft Shorts for the Win!

I don’t know about you but one of my favorite trends of summer 2019 as been soft shorts. It’s been nice to get away from strictly structured and denim shorts and have some options that are both comfy and stylish. This is one trend I’m hoping continues into next year and beyond.

Although summer is coming to an end, I’m still picking up a few new pieces. Living in Texas means my summer wardrobe is about twice the size of any other season. It’s always nice to have a few new pieces to pull out when the time comes to get everything back out of storage for next year. It feels like a little treasure hunt! This is also the time of the year when I start to get really tired of the pieces I’ve been wearing the past few months. Adding a few new inexpensive items gives me just the little bit of momentum to finish out the season!

This past week I picked up not one but two pairs of these super soft tie waist shorts from Walmart. These shorts come in two different color/pattern options and since it was too hard to decide, I went with both. It didn’t hurt that they’re only $15 per pair. They paired perfect with this cute white eyelet top (it comes in 4 colors). I’ve had the pleasure of working with Walmart the past few months on their We Dress America campaign and have found quite a few pieces that are now permanent fixtures in my wardrobe – including these ruffled taupe wedges, monogrammed straw clutch and pair of red tassel earrings.

These shorts also come in this cute striped pattern. I’m planning to pair them up with some bright tees and tanks!

What Pretties Loved in July

What Pretties Loved in July

Do you find it fascinating to discover what other people are buying and loving? I love that kind of stuff! When I’m shopping online, the first thing I look for is a bestsellers category on the web site. While I love putting my own spin on things, there’s something really intriguing about seeing what’s trending. That’s why this month I thought it would be fun to see what GYPO Pretties are loving and buying!

I’m also a numbers person so I totally geek out on analytics. Spreadsheets are my love language!  I had so much fun running the numbers on these items and making assumptions as to why they resonated so much with all of you.

In descending order, here are the top ten most popular clicked on and purchased pieces featured on Get Your Pretty On in July.

#10 – High Waist Ankle Straight Leg Jeans

These jeans from Kut from the Kloth were featured in my Fall 2019 Trend Preview post as one of the denim trends for the upcoming season. They are close to being sold out now but I have a feeling that they’ll be restocked in time for fall.

#9 – Waterproof Suede Ankle Boots

These Blondo Nina ankle boots are the real deal and a fan favorite among Pretties looking for a well made investment quality taupe ankle boot. Taupe ankle boots are one of my favorite fall, winter and spring closet staples. If you’re looking for an all around great pair, this is it!

Another denim trend preview pick, these dark wash stretch straight leg jeans from NYDJ have tons of versatility!

This was also on my Fall 2019 Trend Preview list. Leopard print will be huge for fall and this cozy sweatshirt is a great way to wear it on the weekends. Just add jeans and taupe ankle booties or sneakers!

#6 – Suede Slide Sandals

Summer isn’t over yet! A colorful pair of sandals is a must have that you’ll wear for years to come. This red pair of suede slides is perfect. The hardest part is deciding which color!

#5 – Waterproof Suede Knee High Boots

High boots are back for fall! This investment quality pair has a “just right” heel and a comfy round toe plus the waterproof suede means you can wear them all winter long.

#4 – Black Maxi Dress

One of my favorite purchases this summer has been this black maxi dress. It was featured in my Greece Packing List post last week and quickly became one of the top items for the month. The best part? It’s under $20! You’re going to want more than one color.

#3 – Cross Body Cell Phone Purse

This handy little cell phone purse/wallet was one of my must-haves for our Greece trip. It kept my phone and cards close by while allowing me to be hands free everywhere we went. It comes in 33 different colors and styles and is under $15!!!

#2 – Lace Racerback Bralettes

When we travel, comfort is key, especially on long haul flights. That means I ditch my typical bra in favor of a sports bra or something a little less constricting. For our Greece trip, I picked up this two pack of lace bralettes on Amazon. I already needed a racerback bra to wear with my black maxi dress but this two pack was a pleasant surprise! Both bras are super soft and comfy and were perfect for travel and under my button downs, dresses and tees. Obviously ya’ll love them too! They ended up being our second most popular item this month.

#1 – Linen T-shirt Dress with Pockets

Drumroll please…..the #1 item you all loved this month is one that I just posted last week. This linen dress that I wore in Greece was an instant hit! I cannot even express to you how much I love this dress. It’s roomy and comfy and cool and just downright perfect. It’s also under $20 so go ahead, get more than one color. This was hands down my favorite thing I wore in Greece. Doesn’t it just scream Santorini?

Greece Vacation Packing List: What to Wear in Athens, Mykonos and Santorini

Greece Vacation Packing List: What to Wear in Athens, Mykonos and Santorini

Craig and I just got back from ten glorious days in Greece celebrating our 20th anniversary. This was our first time traveling to Greece so I wasn’t sure what to pack and ended up breaking ALL of my rules and packing much more than I needed. Sometimes it takes good old fashioned trial and error to figure things out and I was honestly very happy to have extra options in my Greece vacation packing list.

First of all, let me say that we were duly warned that it would be VERY hot. But we Texans are a proud bunch and tend to ignore dire warnings about heat. Most of the time, it’s way hotter at home than anywhere we travel but sadly this time we were wrong. Confession: We never even made it all the way up to the Acropolis. After a 2.5 hour walking tour, I was just too hot to even think about it.

Needless to say, I lived in tees, shorts, sandals and dresses the entire time…and sweat through all of them! Luckily everywhere we went in Greece is pretty laid back so we didn’t have to dress fancy much.

Hey, there’s the acropolis wayyyy up on that hill. Too bad we didn’t actually walk up there!

For starters, let’s talk about these super soft lace bralettes. I wore these with almost every outfit for our entire trip. They came in a two-pack of black and white so there was one to go with every outfit.

Black Maxi Dress + Chambray Shirt + Sandals

This was my travel outfit both on the way there and home. Maxi dresses are perfect for Greece and really any summer travel. This maxi dress is so soft and it has pockets! I wore my chambray shirt over it, tied at the waist. Layering gave me just the right amount of warmth on the plane. Sandals are great for airport security but not so much for cold toes on the flight so I always stash a pair of socks in my Louis Vuitton Neverfull, a.k.a. my carryon for life!

TGFL – Thank Goodness for Linen! That should be the national saying in Greece. Who knows, maybe it is? After all linen shops dotted every street in Athens and for good reason. My white linen shirt has been one of my favorite buys of the summer and as soon as I bought it I knew it would be on my Greece vacation packing list. I wore it in multiple ways both as a top and as a swim coverup. It kept me cool(ish) and deflected the sun at the beach.

Slub Cotton Tee + Denim Shorts + Walking Sandals

OK, so my teen daughters had a heyday making fun of my walking sandals but I was so happy that I bought them the night before our trip. They were perfect for both our walking tour of Athens and our treks through Fira and Oia on the island of Santorini. Not the most fashionable looking footwear but definitely the comfiest!

Linen Dress + Sandals

Linen again for the win! This dress was another last minute purchase on my Greece vacation packing list. I wore it on the ferry on our travel day from Mykonos to Santorini. It lasted through the day and into evening for drinks and dinner. I love this dress so much I may just have to order it in a few more colors! Does it not just scream Santorini?

Striped Tee + Denim Shorts + Red Sandals

Cute, casual outfits were appropriate for just about everything in Greece from dinners to tours. I brought a classic striped shirt to pair with my denim shorts and added a pop of color with red sandals.

There were a couple of nights that we dressed up a little for dinner. A sundress was perfect! I paired mine up with my canvas wedges and a straw tote.
