Work Your Work Wear: Three Trends to Try this Fall

Work Your Work Wear: Three Trends to Try this Fall

When I worked in corporate America, one of my biggest challenges was keeping my work wear from getting boring. Even though I had outfit formulas that made getting dressed easier, I still struggled with ways to keep my outfits feeling fresh and on trend.

I eventually discovered the key is to adapt the season’s latest trends in subtle ways that give your basics new life while still feeling professional.

Today I’m sharing three outfits from the Fall 2017 Work Wear Capsule to show you how to incorporate three of my favorite fall work wear trends into your office attire.

Psst…if you like these outfits, then check out the Fall 2017 Work Wear Capsule!  You’ll get shopping links to all of the pieces below plus 18 days of mix and match outfit ideas to make getting dressed for work the easiest thing you’ll do all day.

Pretty Fix: The September List

Pretty Fix: The September List

Happy September pretties!  It’s my birthday month, the big day is tomorrow. Craig and I took a mini-vacation to celebrate our belated anniversary and my early birthday last week.  He was on business in California so I tagged along. We spent a few days touring San Francisco, Napa Valley and Sonoma. It was a whirlwind trip but very relaxing with lots of great food and of course, wine! We haven’t taken a kid-free trip in over four years so it was high time.

This month’s Pretty Fix features one of the outfits that I packed for our trip to California. Every piece in this outfit is also on the shopping list for the Fall 2017 GYPO Style Challenge which opened last Friday.  If you haven’t joined me for a style challenge yet, now is the perfect time to rebuild your fall capsule wardrobe.  This is our biggest challenge of the year! You can learn more and sign up here.

This outfit is SO me.  It’s basically a dressed up tee and jeans, my daily uniform. I switched to my gold slip on sneakers for our day of touring San Francisco and then changed into my ankle boots for dinner.

Pretty Fix – September 2017

1. Long Cardigan

To say I have a cardigan stashed in my bag year-round is not an exaggeration. This light beige cardigan is super versatile for fall. It’s a great lightweight layer. This linen cardigan is also a great choice.

2. White V Neck Tee

This white tee is seriously one of the best I’ve ever owned.  I love the fit, fabric and bit of drapey-ness.  This one is another good option at a great price.

3. Printed Scarf

I got no less than three compliments on this printed scarf the day I flew to California!  It’s generously sized and the colors are perfect for fall.

4. Frayed Hem Jeans

Frayed hem jeans are here to stay for fall 2017.  I have this pair and like the higher rise on them.  This pair is a little darker wash but fits great.

5. Ankle Boots

These suede ankle boots are a bit of a splurge but worth every penny.  This budget friendly option is also cute and has a lower heel.

Brand Overhaul at Target Means Big Savings + Fall Challenge Open

Brand Overhaul at Target Means Big Savings + Fall Challenge Open

By Jessica Pigza

First off, today’s big news…the Fall 2017 GYPO Style Challenge is now open! You can sign up now and get your fall trends shopping list plus the first week of outfit ideas and four bonus outfits immediately.  The sooner you sign up, the sooner you can get your shopping started!

Also, in case you haven’t heard, Target is undergoing a major overhaul of their brands to include home goods and accessories as well as women’s and men’s apparel. They are introducing such brands as A New Day and JoyLab for women and Goodfellow & Co. for men. In order to make room for these new brands they will be phasing out Merona and Mossimo. So what does that mean for us? Sales and clearance!

With the Fall 2017 GYPO Style Challenge opening today, now is the time to get your hands on some great pieces at a fraction of the cost!

After visiting my local Target and looking online I noticed that most of the Merona and Mossimo labels were either discounted or on clearance. They are also intermittently offering an additional percentage off, sometimes through the Cartwheel app (which has now combined with their Target App so no need to have both anymore). When I looked online certain items were already showing as sold out both in-store and online, however, when I visited the store I was still able to find those “sold out” items. I suggest that if you find something you really like, try calling to see if the store really does or does not have it.

While I am excited to see what the new brands have to offer I’m sad to see Mossimo and Merona go. I have a bunch of their items in my closet and I especially love their tanks and tees for layering. From what I can see, they are keeping some of their basics and just rebranding them.

Items from the new brands have been slowing trickling into Target stores over the past few weeks, but they made their official launch online over the weekend. They anticipate that it will take roughly two years to make the total transition. I’ve been checking out what the new brand has to offer and below are a few pieces I’m really excited about. Not all pieces are showing as available but I’m sure they are still working out some of the inventory kinks. As with anything, change is hard but I’m hoping Target will not let us down in proving stylish, affordable clothing and a great array of basics. Until then, happy shopping!

Dark Denim Shirt Dress

This picture and styling does not do the dress justice! I’ve seen it in person and it’s a great thick material and would look perfect with boots and a scarf or an awesome statement necklace!

Floral Tiered Ruffle Blouse

Not only does this combine red and floral trends, but ruffled sleeves as well!

Flare Denim Trouser Dark Wash

I love the simple style of these dark wash flare jeans with dark stitching!

Military Jacket with Flower Embroidery Detail

Again here is another situation where the picture does not do this coat justice! I saw it in person at Target and it’s a great fall coat because you can wear the sleeved rolled up or leave them down. Olive green is definitely on trend and the embroidered flowers make it pop!

Slip On Platform Embroidered Sneakers

A very casual twist on the embroidered footwear.

Tie Heeled Booties

I love the tie accent on these boots! I hope they are just as cute in person and hopefully comfortable too!

It’s Your Turn:  Are you loving the new brand lines at Target or missing the old ones?

Five Ways to Wear Olive Jeans

Five Ways to Wear Olive Jeans

If there’s one sure bet for fall fashion, it’s got to be olive! This color is everywhere. Even though it’s been around for a few seasons now, this fall seems to be it’s best showing yet. If you don’t have a pair of olive jeans, today’s post will hopefully convince you why now’s the time to buy.

Olive jeans are incredibly versatile (you can wear them like you would any neutral) and make outfits so much more interesting than ordinary denim.

Here are five of my favorite olive jeans outfits.

Olive Jeans Outfit #1: Stripes + Olive

This is quite possibly one of my favorite ways to pair up my olive jeans. Just add a striped top and a tassel necklace for an instant outfit!
