On rare occasions, I’ve been known to toss aside my better judgment and turn the reins of the blog over to my husband Craig. Like that one time he created a holiday gift guide entitled “What Your Husband Really Wants for Christmas” where one of the items was “you, under the tree, wearing nothing but a bow”.
Still shaking my head…
So when he volunteered to do a menswear post for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I was more than a little suspicious. Most men don’t enjoy online shopping, so him offering up this perfectly curated list? Fishy.
I’m still trying to figure out his angle but I’ve searched for an ulterior motive and so far, have come up empty. So unless he’s secretly embedded something naughty in this post, we should all be good to go.
And by the way, I’m kind of impressed and plan to do a little shopping for him as a reward…maybe something else too, we’ll see. 🙂 (ok, now I’m the naughty one!)
Without further ado, take it away Craig…
I know Alison thinks I have some kind of other motive for my post but it’s not like that, trust me. I saw her stressing this week because she had a post planned for today that didn’t work out because only half of her shipment came from Nordstrom. So I decided to pitch in and help her out. What? A husband can’t help his wife out?
I mean if there just so happen to be some fringe benefits from my wife being less stressed, then so be it. 😉
All of the clothes listed below I’ve put on here because I actually wear them and love them. I feel like they are stylish and also appropriate for my age. Most importantly, I could only have what’s on this list and need nothing else for the entire year…outside of flip flops and swimming trunks…oh yeah, and a hat. Hopefully your husband can do the same.
Tip: Pin this post if you plan to come back to it later for fall shopping ideas.
I love this jacket because it is super lightweight, yet really warm in cold temps. It’s easy to roll up and shove in a back pack or suitcase, without taking up very much room. All around, it’s a great jacket and my go to in the winter.
In Texas, I get a ton of use out of this lighter weight jacket/sweater. Typically, it’s my every day jacket from late September all the way to December and beyond. When it gets too cold or I travel to colder climates, I switch to the puffer jacket. I like to wear t-shirts, even in the winter, so between this and the Patgonia puffer, I’m good.
I wear these jeans all of the time. They work with casual button downs, polos, and t-shirts. I always pair them with the tan belt and boots. I quarter tuck casual button downs and typically half tuck the t-shirts and polos. You can cuff these jeans or wear them normal…all depends on what you like. I usually cuff them.
I have these dress shoes and they look amazing with my gray suit and the belt I linked above. Go ahead and get both. They even work with jeans. Every time I wear them I get compliments.
These aren’t the exact boots that I have, but very similar. If I had to pick another pair, it would be this pair. I wear boots with jeans year round. I spent some extra $ on mine, simply because I wear them all of the time and it was worth it to pay the extra for something that is comfortable and will last. I can always justify the extra dough on a good pair of shoes
I love my Vans. On those super comfortable casual days I like to wear these with relaxed fit jeans and my favorite t-shirt. They are super comfortable and great in the summer with shorts too!
Let’s face it, slim fit jeans cannot happen every day! It is necessary to have a normal pair of relaxed fit jeans. I like to have these to wear with Vans or a pair of athletic shoes. Slim fit jeans, for me, just don’t work for that.
Hey pretties! I wanted to give you all an update today on the difference we’re making with the GYPO Collection line of silk scarves.
But first off, for those of you who are new around here and not familiar with the line, a bit of backstory.
For the past few years, I’ve had several readers and members of the Style Challenge come to me asking for a retail line of accessories that we could easily add to our outfits to create interest. After collecting survey results, it was decided that the first pieces in that line would be printed scarves.
I knew that I wanted them to be high quality materials, made in the US and to support a great cause (more on that later) but still be affordable. I’m just going to be honest, not an easy feat to check all of those boxes!
We were able to commission a female Brooklyn-based artist who created some lovely watercolor florals for us that we put out to a vote. The top three vote getters were then sent off to be printed on silk scarves by a company in San Francisco, CA.
Not one single detail has been overlooked in this line, even our packaging is eco-friendly and comes from a US based woman owned business!
Each scarf arrives in our mailers, beautifully wrapped in tissue with a gift card explaining the ways intention has been woven into the line.
A total of six different scarf styles – one of each pattern in a bandana style and long scarf have been created for the line.

The Impact
Now to THE BEST part – as a result of this labor of love, to date we’ve donated 20 nights (and counting!) of warm meals, safety and restful sleep in a private room to women and children escaping abusive situations at Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas. Thank YOU for making a difference!
Shout Outs
It takes a village and I’m SO grateful for the support of those of you who’ve helped spread the word. An extra special shout out goes to Shay Shull for featuring our line in her Friday Favorites on Mix and Match Mama!
I’d also like to take a minute to feature the GYPO Stylists who have generously shared the line with their readers and followers including:
Hey pretties! If you saw my post last Friday, you know that I had to move up the post I had scheduled for today because the links were starting to sell out. So I went against all things I stand for and posted about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale two days in a row so I could share A Week of Fall Outfits from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale before everything sold out.
I think that’s an important enough reason, don’t you? 🙂
This is always one of my most popular posts of the year. You may not even be thinking about fall outfits yet, but hop over and pin the post so that you have it handy when you are!
Ok, let’s take a break from all of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale madness today and switch gears a little bit to a recent purchase that I’m loving – this tie waist black dress.
It was a last minute purchase right before my parents’ 50th anniversary party a few weeks ago. I wasn’t feeling any of my other dresses so I ran out to Target and grabbed it without even trying it on. I paid $19.99 for it but it’s now on clearance for just $13.98!
Here’s a flat lay of the outfit that I wore to my parents’ anniversary party because I was rushing out the door and forgot to take a selfie on the night of it.
Let’s stop and talk about these sandals for a minute before we press on – I got mine in a Stitch Fix but just discovered them on sale for 50% off here. I can’t tell you how many compliments I get every time I wear these shoes. Because of the block heel, they’re really comfortable and a lot more versatile than you might think.
Today’s outfit is how I paired it up for Friday night church. This little dress is great for so many things, including putting it on with a pair of flip flops and never leaving the house! It’s super comfy and versatile, which I love, love, love. Pair it with heels for a night out or throw it on with a long cardigan and gold sandals like I did for church.
It’s the day of the week at GYPO where we celebrate what makes us feel pretty. Whether it’s a new outfit, hairstyle, or makeup, the I Feel Pretty link up is about anything and everything that makes your life prettier. Even if you’re not a blogger, you can still play along. Just tell me what made you feel pretty this week in the comments.
I absolutely HATE when I have to go back on my word about something.
Remember yesterday when I said I wasn’t going to beat you over the head with Nordstrom Anniversary Sale posts? Well, here I am – two days in a row! But this wasn’t my plan, as a matter of fact, this post wasn’t supposed to go live until next Wednesday.
But I logged in this morning to check inventory and some pieces are already starting to sell out. UGH!
So I made the “executive decision” to go ahead and run this post a few days early which means now I don’t have a post for next Wednesday. Oh well, I’ll figure that out later. 🙂
The past two years, it’s been a tradition for me to put together a mini-capsule of fall outfits from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I had already put the outfits together when I choose the pieces for yesterday’s Early Access Best Buys Under $100 post.
So here you have it, a few days early but hopefully still in stock!
All of the pieces here are under $100 and available now through early access for Nordstrom cardholders. If you don’t have your card yet, don’t fret! You can sign up and get access immediately HERE. Plus you get a $20 note to spend just for signing up.
A Week of Fall Outfits from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Tip: Pin this post for fall outfit inspiration later on!
Today’s the day I get to look like a complete and total hypocrite. Last week I put this post on social media and it resonated with so many of you. In case you missed it, here it is.
While it’s true that I DON’T shop much and DO make the most of my wardrobe, I also LOVE trends. And I also know that half of you come here to build your capsule wardrobes and make the most of what you have while the other half (and I’m sure there’s overlap too) are here for the trends and to know what to add to your wardrobe each season to keep things fresh.
So how do I pull off making the most of what you have and shopping for new stuff without looking like I’m talking out of both sides of my mouth?
This is how. I’m going to address the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale from the perspective of coming away with some great pieces while staying within a reasonable budget, ok?
And if you still want to call me a hypocrite, I’m ok with that. I’ve been called much worse. 🙂
I also did a Facebook Live pulling the curtain back on the sale and revealing some insider blogger secrets about why it gets so hyped along with five tips for shopping the sale smarter. You can watch it below.
Five Tips for Shopping the Nordstrom Sale Smarter
Sign up for Nordstrom Rewards and get a $20 note to spend to stretch your dollars. The card is also the key to getting to shop the sale during early access starting today, July 13th. That’s 8 days before the general public and before items start to sell out.
Take an inventory of what you actually need in the following categories: Tops, Bottoms, Dresses, Jackets, Sweaters, Footwear, Accessories, Handbags, Cosmetics. Take the same inventory of your kids’ closets if you plan to do any back to school shopping.
Shop with a purpose using your list. Don’t make any last minute emotional purchases of things you don’t need.
Focus on classic basics like boots, jeans, sweaters, coats and handbags. Look for quality investment pieces that will last season after season.
Sizes sell out fast so don’t hesitate! Especially shoes, so if you spy a cute little suede bootie, jump on it. They’re really versatile and can be worn for fall, winter and spring. I can’t tell you how many times I left something in my cart just to have it sell out.
Why it made the list: A classic basic under $20 that you’ll want to get in every color. The modal fabric holds up wash after wash. A great layering piece!
Why it made the list: The classic long sleeve tee gets an update with trendy cold shoulders. This one is fitted so it’s perfect for lightweight layering. Black can be easily dressed up for date night. Comes in four versatile colors.
Why it made the list: No shopping list is complete without a striped top! This one has trendy details like bell sleeves and a peplum hem and it comes in three colors.
Why it made the list: There was something really irresistible about this updated chambray top. I adore the collar and peplum trim! Pair it with black jeans, a burgundy cardigan and leopard mules for a chic fall outfit.
Why it made the list: This cute little top is a statement maker! It’s light enough to wear for summer to fall transition.
Bottoms
Overall, I was pretty disappointed in what’s available in the under $100 price point for jeans/bottoms. However I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my must have pairs of jeans for just $38.90!
Why it made the list: These are one of my favorite brands of jeans! They fit just about every body type and hold up really well. At just $38.90, these are a must have.
Why it made the list: I LIVED in these tunics last winter. They’re lightweight, comfortable and look great with a long pendant necklace, skinny jeans and over the knee boots. This one comes in five colors.
Why it made the list: It’s a long cardigan and you know how much I love them! Pair it up exactly as above with frayed hem skinny jeans, a simple tee and some velvet embellished mules – perfection!
Why it made the list: Another long cardigan? Yes! Because it’s my list and I can. 🙂 This pretty blush color pairs perfectly with a gray tee, distressed jeans and your favorite slip on sneakers. You’ll be the chicest and comfiest mom running errands!
Why it made the list: I mean it’s obvious right? Olive is so on trend for fall and so are ruffles and peplums. This sweet little jacket combines all three and goes with everything. The weight is just perfect too! You know I want you to pair it with stripes.
Why it made the list: If you haven’t hopped on the moto jacket trend train yet, then now is the time. This knit version is a little less structured and comes in four different colors.
Why it made the list: Don’t shoot the messenger but velvet, embroidery and mules are huge trends for fall in the footwear category! This pair hits the mark in all three areas. I’m kind of swooning over this pair and LOVE it paired up in the outfit below.
Why it made the list: Thank goodness! Lace up flats are back for fall. This color goes with everything and gives casual outfits a bit of polish with it’s tiny tassels. These come in four colors – try burgundy for a fun fall hue.
Why it made the list: You should’ve known some kind of leopard flat would be on the list! Leopard is a neutral that adds interest to any outfits. These mule loafers are the perfect update for fall 2017.
Why it made the list: This necklace is a total steal at just $35.90 and you can get the matching bracelet and earrings for the same price! Get it in gold, rose gold or silver.
Why it made the list: Just a great statement making piece that adds interest to any outfit and comes in five colors (check out the green, so pretty!)

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.

GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
