Beauty Trial and Error – Returns Made Easy

Beauty Trial and Error – Returns Made Easy

By Jessica Pigza

My last few posts have been all about trying new looks and new products, but sometimes it can be hard to commit and who wants to be stuck with beauty products they don’t like?

To help make being a little more adventurous a little less risky, I’ve included some of my favorite stores that have awesome return policies. With all the options available, the competition for for consumers can be fierce and customer satisfaction seems to be the goal of any major retailer. What does that mean for the consumer? It means if you’re not 100% satisfied with a purchased product, it has become much easier to return or exchange. Please note that just because retailers are making it easier for us to try new things and return those that don’t work, it is up to us not to abuse these policies and make returns based on legitimate reasons.

With that being said, below I’ve highlighted some of their return policies which makes it possible to try new looks and if you aren’t loving it, it doesn’t love you i.e allergic reaction, or it doesn’t live up to its promises, then you’re not stuck with another product that goes into the abyss under your sink or in a drawer. Again every store in this list has a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee, returns with a receipt offer full refunds and returns without a receipt offer store credit. Happy shopping and go ahead, be bold, be daring and if you don’t like it, your wallet will not suffer, I promise!

“Be 100% happy or receive 100% money back on any beauty products.” That is CVS’s motto. Opened or unopened, at CVS you have 60 days to make your returns with original receipt or invoice for a full refund. They accept online purchases in-store however if you need to return by mail call 1-888-607-4CVS (1-888-607-4287) to work with a customer service agent to arrange the details of your return and ensure you receive the proper credit.

I just recently discovered this site and found out they are an authorized retailer of my face wash that I thought I could only get through my dermatologist. I’m a lover of convenience so if I can order online and have it show up at my door without dragging my three kids out I’m sold! Dermstore’s motto on returns is “no questions asked” stating that they understand it takes trial and error to find what works for you. Their policy is 30 days for returns to receive a full refund and from day 31-60 you’ll receive store credit. They will also provide a free pre-paid return label on all items returned for store credit.

Kohl’s has a hassle free return policy with no limit on time. Opened or unopened, Kohl’s will accept returns and offer a full refund with a receipt whether you buy online or in-store. They can also look up transactions (up to 36 months back) if you used a Kohl’s charge, major credit card or linked your Yes2You Rewards account. If you decide to return by mail you have to pay shipping costs but that can be avoided because all Kohl’s items are able to be returned in-store even if you bought online.

As for Macy’s, cosmetics may be returned in new or gently used condition with receipt for a full refund. And get this, you have up to a year from the purchase date to make your returns. Original receipt or invoice required for returns and without a receipt will get you a store credit at the lowest selling price of the returned item over the last 180 days. You will have to pay shipping to return by mail, but again, this can be avoided because you can return even online purchases in-store.

According to the Nordstrom website, “We handle returns on a case-by-case basis with the ultimate objective of making our customers happy. We stand behind our goods and services and want customers to be satisfied with them. We’ll always do our best to take care of customers—our philosophy is to deal with them fairly and reasonably. We have long believed that when we treat our customers fairly, they in turn are fair with us.” Because of this there is no time limit on returns however having your receipt or order number helps make the return easier and guarantee you’ll be refunded the amount you paid. There’s also free shipping on all returns.

Rite Aid wants its shoppers to be “daring with your makeup choices” which is why they offer a 90 day, full refund policy on all opened and unopened beauty products no matter the brand. Returns may be made using your original receipt or they can look up your transaction if you used a wellness+ or your Plenti Card. They also offer free returns by mail if you purchased online.

With Sephora you have 60 days to return or exchange for a full refund but if you need a little more time you can take up to 90 days if you’re okay with receiving store credit. When returning or exchanging a product it must be in new or gently used condition. Just be sure to have your receipt or invoice for your return or exchange. Another perk of Sephora is that they have testers of all their products in-store so you can try before you buy and if you’re still not sure, they can make a take home sample out of most of their testers. Another detail to note is that if you buy at a Sephora inside a JCPenney, then that item must be returned to a similar store (another Sephora inside a JCPenney versus a freestanding Sephora) and they will not accept returns by mail if purchased in this manner. Online purchases are able to be returned to any freestanding Sephora store, however they do offer free return shipping saving your a trip to the store.

Target has a 90 day return or exchange policy and if you are a REDcard holder you have an additional 30 days to make up your mind. Again you need your receipt or invoice for returns, however if you purchased using a REDcard, debit or major credit card, they can look up your purchases that way, no receipt required. Online purchases may be returned in-store but they also offer free return shipping. Note that in addition to adding an additional 30 days to the return policy with the Target REDcard, you also receive 5% off your total purchases. Bonus!

To view more details of the return and exchange policy click here.  Current deals:  5% off with REDcard and free shipping, shop HERE.

At Ulta you have 60 to return for a full refund regardless of if you buy in-store or buy online. Just keep your receipt and original packaging. Online returns may be returned either in-store or by mail. Which means you can have the comfort of shopping at home and reading reviews but if you don’t like it you can just drop by the store and save on shipping costs to send it back. Also if you sign up for their rewards program, it can be used track all your purchases in case you ever lose your receipt. If you happen to visit an Ulta they will have testers that you can try, however they do not provide take home samples of the products.

To view more details of the return and exchange policy click here.  Current deals:  Free shipping on any $50 purchase, shop HERE.

I’ve always heard great things about returning something to Walgreens however its cosmetic return policy online states that returns are “handled at the discretion of the store manager, usually in the form of a Walgreens gift card.” That didn’t seem very appealing to me so I contacted their customer service and they clarified that “the discretion of the store manager” refers to how much product is left when making the return. They also confirmed something else I had read. The time period for returns is 30 but they do offer a full refund AND they will reimburse shipping charges for items bought online. Really? They will reimburse my shipping too? Whether you return your online purchases by mail or in-store they will refund your shipping costs for online purchases. Also they offer free shipping on returning your online purchases by mail. I can see why people like buying their beauty products at Walgreens.

The 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is about to be a very HOT topic in blogland over the coming weeks.  I’m already getting tons of questions about it. And yes, I will be posting my picks and giving you recommendations for your fall wardrobe but while we wait…there are already some great deals to take advantage of now (while they’re in stock).

So if you’re itching to get a jumpstart, then this post’s for you!

Although I’m not a huge Nordstrom shopper, it is my go-to place to get cute tops and well-made basics – like tees and jeans.  Today I’m giving you a sneak peek of some of my favorite outfit making pieces and classic basics that are already on sale.

Great timing too because I’ve got a Nordstrom Note burning a hole through my pocket! I’ve had it for three weeks and haven’t spent it yet, that’s got to be some kind of record. If you already have a Nordstrom credit card, then you know all about the magic of the Nordstrom Note (and early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!) If not, you’re going to want to stay tuned for this next part.

Here’s two awesome reasons why to apply for a Nordstrom credit card by July 9th:

  1. You’ll get a free $20 Nordstrom Note to spend
  2. You also get early access to the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale on July 13th, a week before it opens to the general public

Happy Friday Pretties!  You’ve been seeing a lot of my outfits these past four weeks that I’ve styled from my Summer 2017 GYPO Style Challenge capsule wardrobe.  As we wrapped up the live round of outfits, I wanted to feature some of the special ladies who make our Facebook group the nicest place on the internet.

But first, I wanted to share something with you.  Lately, I’ve been featuring a lot about capsule wardrobes because I honestly feel like this is my God-given gift for helping other women by simplifying style.  But I’ve done a few podcasts this week that made me think about how my journey started from being in the “yoga pants mom rut” to where I am today.  Yesterday I did an impromptu Facebook Live because I feel like there are some moms out there who need to hear this. If you’ve been struggling lately with your own mom rut, I hope you’ll tune in to hear my story and know that you’re not alone.

Today I have four women who’ve been named “Scroll Stoppers” for the Summer 2017 GYPO Style Challenge. These are women who consistently made me stop and stare in my Facebook feed because they knocked it out of the park with their versions of our daily outfit ideas.

I have to say, this was my favorite challenge we’ve ever done!  I’m always amazed at how many different variations everyone comes up with.  They truly make it work for everything from a day staying at home, to running errands and even date nights and office outfits!

If you’re new around here and not familiar with the Style Challenge, every season I create a capsule wardrobe of on-trend pieces that you can shop for on your own.  You get two weeks to get your items in place and then I send out a daily outfit e-mail and style tips every day for three weeks.  We also have this AMAZING private Facebook group where we share our selfies, shopping tips and make real life friendships.  It’s honestly the nicest place on the internet!

My Top Five Life Changing Products

My Top Five Life Changing Products

By Jessica Pigza

Is it over the top to say that some beauty products are life changing? Maybe, but when you find something amazing, you question, where has this been all my life? Below are my top 5 life changing products.

1. Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa – Look Ma, New Hands

This product is especially perfect for anyone who is constantly washing their hands, which is pretty much every mother I know. As crazy as it sounds, we really do not like to go through the day with our kid’s snot, dirt and stickiness on our hands. But all that washing is VERY drying. I didn’t realize how rough and dry my hands where until one night my son asked me to stop rubbing his back because my ‘nails’ were hurting him. I wasn’t using my nails, my hands were just that neglected. I love using this product because the paraffin helps to keep my hands moisturized amid all the washing and I don’t have to constantly reapply. I’m happy to report that I’m no longer “scratching” my kids with my rough hands.  Get it here.

2. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

In my list of life changing products this is BY FAR my number one! I’ve tried other eyelid primers and they turned out to be a wasted step and a useless product until Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. My face is oily and my eyelids are the same. Within an hour of application, my eye makeup would look like it was melting and have horrible creases. Because of this I would always wait until the last minute to do my makeup which made me feel rushed and unpolished. Then one day the heavens opened up and an angel appeared and told me about this amazing product! I may be exaggerating a bit, but to me, my friend who did tell me about it will always be a little angelic in my eyes. I was truly blown away with how well this product worked. It kept my eye makeup intact which was a totally new concept for me. Being able to put my makeup on hours in advance seriously changed my life. No joke. I could do my makeup in the morning and know that it would still look good going into the evening. This also meant I could put my makeup on for an event while the kids where at school and then actually spend time with them when they got home instead of spending all my time in the bathroom then running out the door. I use the original formula but it also comes in six other formulas including anti-aging, vegan and tinted.  Get it here.

My eye makeup nine hours later and it’s still there!

3. Sephora Collection Show Curl XL Lash Curler

I have a question for all you ladies, does anyone else have eyelashes that have absolutely no curl to them? My eyelashes are the epitome of the anti-curl and head directly south on my face. Any previous attempts to wear mascara only made a mess under my eyes and countless eyelash curlers left my eyelashes in even worse shape. Some couldn’t reach my eyelash base and they would get crimped in half or even worse, they would get pushed down in the rubber and painfully plucked out. I seriously don’t have enough eyelashes to have them ripped out everyday so I stopped doing anything to them all together. I had sad eyelashes until the found Sephora’s Show Curl XL. (Also available for deep set eyes) I’ve had mine for 4 years and I still have yet to replace the silicone cushion! No more crimping or plucking, just cute curled eyelashes and my mascara stays where it’s supposed to be.

Tip: While curling your lashes, don’t use too much pressure and slightly tilt up while curling. Also curl first then apply mascara, doing it the other way around will make your eyelashes stick to the curler. Get it here.

4. Bumble and bumble Prêt-à-powder

It’s recommended that you should wash your hair every other day and even wait up to a week if you can. But what do you do between washings, especially if your hair gets oily like mine? I heard somewhere that I could use baby powder to help soak up excess oil, so I tried it. It worked okay but then my scalp developed a buildup and it began to itch. Yuck! Then my hair dresser told me about dry shampoo and made me promise never to ever use baby powder again. Dry shampoo is amazing and it’s available in powder, liquid and aerosol form. There are even tinted dry shampoos to match your hair color and help with a little root cover up between trips to the salon. Bonus! My favorite is Bumble and bumble’s Prêt-à-powder which combines dry shampoo, style extender and a volumizer in one formula. Much better than baby powder, healthier for my hair and it makes my hair look great between washings.

Tip: Since my dry shampoo is white and my hair is dark I will sometimes put extra on at nights to help absorb oil while I sleep. Then in the morning I just use a little before heading out the door. The white does blend, it just takes a few minutes. Get it here.

5. SeneGence LipSense

I LOVE lipsticks and lipgloss. I feel like it’s the icing on the cake of a finished makeup look. And with LipSense by SeneGence, it’s some long lasting icing! It seemed like LipSense was filling up my Facebook feed with promises of 4-16 hour color. After seeing all these promises and some testimonials, I finally broke down and decided to try it. I didn’t like it the first few times I wore it. It came off easily but then I was told it wasn’t staying on because it was taking off all the old skin and wax left behind by my chapsticks. After a few more attempts my lips actually looked better and the color stayed on way longer. LipSense comes in a ton of different colors and paired up with a handful of different glosses, the color combinations are endless. I put it on in the the morning and it’s still there when my husband gets home from work. The top gloss can come off so a reapplication may be necessary but even without the gloss, the color is still there and I love the way it feels on my lips! No more naked lips, lipgloss kisses on my kids’ cheeks or passing on the “tingle” from my plumping lipgloss to my kids or husband!

Here I’m rocking some Blu-Red with a Pearl gloss. I’m trying to be more adventurous with my lip color and wearing red can be a very intimidating. At least I have confidence in knowing the color will stay on my lips and not end up on my teeth or anything else.
