Work Wear Wednesday – February Edition

Work Wear Wednesday – February Edition

Welcome to this month’s edition of Work Wear Wednesday.  On the last Wednesday of each month, I feature a few work wear outfits for the 60% of my readers who work outside of the home.  While most of you come to GYPO because you love casual outfits for evenings and weekends, you’re also looking for some office appropriate inspiration.  Even if you don’t work outside the home, these outfits are a great starting point for other dressier outfit occasions.

Every Sunday, I also post a work wear outfit over on my Facebook page to get your week started off on the right foot. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to like my page so you don’t miss out!

Each of these outfits features a good mix of classic, quality pieces that stand the test of time, along with trends to update your look and inexpensive budget friendly options.  You can shop my links below or shop your closet to create these outfits!

SAHMonday: Weeknight Date Night

SAHMonday: Weeknight Date Night

Welcome to another edition of SAHMonday – weekly outfit inspiration just for the stay at home and work from home moms of the world (like me!) who aren’t heading out of the house on Monday morning.  You can check out the other outfits in this series here.

These outfits are perfect for when you want to feel comfortable, yet put together, so that you can face the day and any errands you may need to run.  Plus, most of these outfit formulas can be pulled straight from your closet.  If you don’t have my exact pieces, that’s ok.  Just use one of the substitutions that I recommend.

Consider this a “cheat week”

Ok, ok, let me have it.  I deserve it.  This is NOT exactly a SAHMonday outfit.

For one thing, who’s wearing peep toe booties for a day at home?  Not this lady, no siree.

But after posting the pieces of my Valentine’s weeknight date night look last week, I got a lot of requests to see it “in real life”.

But first, I have a couple of confessions to make.

Confession #1:  I did not, in fact wear this for our Valentine’s date night.  No, no, no.  Mother Nature decided that after a few lovely 80 degree February days we definitely needed to have a cold, rainy, windy, 40 degree Valentine’s Day.  No sheer blouse and peep toes for this girl.  🙁

Confession #2:  I did, in fact wear this for dinner out with two of my team GYPO members Kathryn and Tiffany (shout out to both!) who make up the most amazing team in the world and support me in SO many different ways.  Mainly, I’ve discovered, to shield me from mean e-mails. 🙂 But that’s another story for a different day. Kathryn and Tiffany were in Dallas for a little GYPO retreat last weekend.  We got to not be moms (they both have little littles) and hang out at the spa and (mostly) not talk work and bond for a few hours and it was simply lovely.

OK, back to the outfit.  Just for the record (and so Kathryn and Tiffany don’t have to protect me from mean e-mails) you (and I) could totally wear this for a day at home.  Just swap out the booties for a pair of flats and it’s instantly casual.  The top is really comfy and so are the jeans!

P.S.  Just in case that didn’t help, I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled casual wear next week. 🙂

Alison’s Friday Favorites

Alison’s Friday Favorites

Alison’s Friday Favorites is a weekly list of anything that makes my life a little easier, prettier or happier.  Here are five things that checked those boxes this week.

Favorite #1 – Scarf Samples

The silk scarf samples arrived this week from our production facility in San Francisco.  I have to admit, I got a little teary-eyed seeing them for the first time.  This is my first experience being involved in creating a physical product from idea to execution, so holding these beautiful designs in my hands was kind of emotional.

I’m also not afraid to admit when I’m wrong about something and course correct it and the samples were definitely too small. While I’m planning to offer a neck scarf option, there will also be a long rectangular scarf too.  The long scarves will most likely be in a silk chiffon so they’ll be lighter weight for spring and summer.  They will be available for purchase in late March.

Favorite #2 – Online Grocery Ordering

Have you tried any of the online grocery ordering services yet?  I just did for the first time and wow, I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to my regular trip to the store.  Craig is sick of hearing me go on and on about it, so I’ll tell you instead.  🙂  This past weekend I was too busy to carve out time to grocery shop.  A coupon came in the mail to try Walmart’s online grocery ordering so last Friday evening I went through the pantry and fridge and made a list of staples, then put together our meal plan for the week.  After that I plugged in what I needed at Walmart.com/grocery and was able to schedule my grocery pick up the next morning.

I pulled into a parking spot and they brought it all out and loaded it up in the back of my car.  They also gave me a little reusable tote bag full of snacks and a water bottle just for trying the service.  The best part?  I ended up spending less than I do at Target mainly because I didn’t get distracted by all of the other stuff that wasn’t on my list!

I’ve got a coupon code for $10 off your first order if you use this link.  Make your list and get your groceries ordered for next week now!  Then kick back and enjoy the weekend.  🙂

Favorite #3 – Prom Dress Success!

Our daughter Aubrey is a senior this year and will be going to her first (and last) prom.  What I thought would be a long drawn out process looking for the right prom dress well…wasn’t.  Two weeks ago we went to San Antonio for a cheer competition and decided to check out some dress shops there.  She lucked out and found a dress she loves that fits her perfectly – no alterations!

Here’s the back view of the dress she picked.  I’ll post pics of all of it when the actual time comes in May!

Favorite #4 – Spring Outfit Staples

When I posted this Pretty Fix at the beginning of the month, I couldn’t wait for all of the pieces to get here.  The frayed hem jeans, lightweight navy sweater and loafers work great together but I’ve been piecing them out into different outfits on their own too.  They are all great staples for your spring wardrobe!

When you have a really awesome gift for someone, one where you just really think you outdid yourself, do you struggle to wait to give it to them?

I do.  It’s so stinkin’ hard!  Especially when it’s a really big surprise, like the Bruno Mars concert tickets I got for Craig and the girls for Christmas.

Well, I didn’t have to wait because he completely inadvertently spoiled that surprise.

The day after I bought the tickets, he called me and said “would you kill me if I bought tickets to something for next fall? Because I’m about to pull the trigger.”

I swallowed hard and said “can you tell me what the tickets are for?”

“Bruno Mars”

NOOOOO.  So I had to tell him.  No choice.  Surprise ruined.

Anyway, I was able to keep it a secret from the girls until Christmas day which was really hard because Craig and I kept talking about it and would catch ourselves almost saying something in front of them.

Long story short.  I have a hard time keeping cool gifts until the time comes.

That’s why today I’m giving away the shopping list for the SAHM Casual Capsule Wardrobe that wasn’t supposed to be released until Friday.  🙂

Let me tell you a little more about this capsule and shopping list.  Late last year I set a goal to do something that many of you have been asking about for a long, long time – create a list of the “starter” basics you need to build your casual wardrobe.

This has seriously been the most requested capsule ever.  I’ve named this one the SAHM Casual Wardrobe Basics Builder because these pieces and outfits work best for stay at home and work from home moms.

BUT, it’s also great for women who work outside the home who are trying to build a good base of pieces and outfits of casual items for evenings and weekends.

This list is a good base because many of the pieces are reused throughout the year in the seasonal GYPO style challenge – so you get the maximum use out of your investment.  View these pieces as your building blocks and the GYPO Seasonal Style Challenge as the pieces to add to stay on trend.  This shopping list is “non-seasonal” meaning you can wear most of the pieces year-round with the right layers added and removed.  It also doesn’t contain overly trendy items on purpose so that you can get lots of wear out of these classics.

Creating this list felt like a long overdue labor of love.  It includes the pieces I reach for the most in my own closet so I have a special connection to it.

FREE SHOPPING LIST

To celebrate (finally) getting this put together, I’m giving away the shopping list for this new challenge today! To download the shopping list, click here or any of the images below.  Hope you enjoy this early gift!

A Pretty Fix Comes to Life!

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I posted February’s Pretty Fix and loved the pieces so much that I ordered them right away?  Well, they arrived last week and I couldn’t possibly be happier!  They make for the perfect SAHMonday outfit.

In case you need a reminder of that post, here’s the outfit idea from it.

And here’s my real-life version. The skinny scarf from the original post hasn’t arrived yet but I ordered this one from H&M (for just $12.99!) that I love just as much.

Navy Sweater + Frayed Hem Jeans + Printed Scarf + Loafers

These loafers are EVERYTHING.  They truly feel like butter on my feet.  I also love that they have a soft back so you can wear them as mules too.

I also like this simple look without the scarf and the tail of a tank top peeking out.  If you decide to order this sweater or these jeans from H&M they are true to size.  The loafers are a bit on the bigger side.  I sized down 1/2 size and they’re perfect.
