Style Your Size: How to Wear a Printed Blouse

Style Your Size: How to Wear a Printed Blouse

by Jill Riley

Hello Pretties! Are you ready for the newest installment of Style Your Size? This time we are going to focus on how to wear a blouse.

Before joining the GYPO community, I struggled with how to wear a blouse. I work at home and my wardrobe is pretty casual. I would buy a blouse that spoke to me, but it would sit in my closet unused. (Clothes that fill space in the closet, but never get worn make it really hard to enjoy getting dressed.)

I wanted to wear the pretty piece. I really, really did. But something about it felt a bit too fancy for my lifestyle.

Enter Get Your Pretty On. Through the support and guidance offered on this blog and from the Style Challenges, I’ve learned how to dress down this fun piece of clothing to make it just right for me.

Now my printed blouse is one of my most worn pieces.

I reached out to members of the Summer 2018 Capsule Wardrobe and asked them to show us how they made a printed blouse their own this summer. As usual, I was very excited about the variety of sizes and interpretation of the daily prompt. It really shows that Style Challenges by GYPO can work for so many different women.

How to wear a blouse: add fun accessories.

Stacy wears a size 20. Her pink floral blouse is the perfect backdrop for some bold fringe earrings. I found an adorable pair similar to Stacy’s at Nordstrom. BaubleBar Gabriella Fringe Earrings.

Heather wears a size 4. The big tote bag Heather is carrying really showcases her blue floral top. She was especially excited that “Other than my earrings (Alison + Aubrey Lexi tassel), I shopped my closet for all of this!”

Michell wears a size 16. She added a long tassel necklace to finish off this fun look. Michell shares how she started with the Summer 2018 Capsule Wardrobe daily prompt, then made it work for her. “I adapted the look for work with white pants, floral top, and neutral wedges.”

How to wear a blouse: add layers.

Melissa wears a size 24. She says, “It poured 4+ inches of rain on day 10, so I had to sub (substitute) jeans for the white. Temps in the 60s called for the sweater too!” Melissa’s take on this outfit also shows how great a blouse can work with jeans!

Maegan wears a size 6. The denim jacket Maegan used to layer over her floral blouse gives a fun peek a boo effect to the pattern, making the shirt an extra rather than the main focus. Nordstrom has a great selection of denim jackets if you are still looking for one.

Tiffany wears a size 18. She coordinated the pink in her floral top beautifully with a pink cardigan. This outfit is perfect for a cooler summer evening.

How to wear a blouse: let the blouse shine.

Angie wears a size 8. Her blouse has a tropical feel and stands alone to make this a fun and simple summer outfit.

Heather wears a size 18. There is no need for Heather to add accessories to this bright blouse, it makes a statement all on its own.

Nora wears a size 0. She was able to use the floral top from the 2018 Spring Challenge, a GYPO perk. Nora says, “These challenges truly help me get more wear out of my clothing.”

Back to School Teacher Outfits to Wear Now and Later

Back to School Teacher Outfits to Wear Now and Later

by Alison Lumbatis

Like many of you, I have tons of respect for our teachers and all that they do for our kids. We are so very fortunate to have a quite a few teachers in the GYPO community. This time of the year, for all that they do, I try to make back to school an easier transition for them. One small way I can do that is by helping them out with what to wear for the perfect teacher outfits!

Today I’m partnering with J. Crew Factory with some “wear it now” and “wear it later” looks just for our hard working teachers! If you haven’t checked it out yet, J. Crew Factory is the perfect shopping destination for teachers. Their pieces are classic, comfortable, high quality and affordable. Plus they offer a teacher discount every day! Teachers (and college students too) get an extra 15% off every J. Crew Factory purchase with a valid ID. Click here to verify eligibility and you’re good to go!

These teacher outfits do double duty for the transition from summer to fall. You can wear them now as is and add on some layers later when the temps start to drop.

Sizing Tip: All pieces fit true to size. I’m wearing a size 2 or XS in all items and am 5’4″ and 125 lbs.

Day One – Wear it Now

The only thing better than a great shirt dress is one that has POCKETS! This dress is so soft and comfortable and it doesn’t turn into a wrinkled mess when you sit down.

Swap the chambray for a white oxford shirt and layer up with a cotton utility jacket.

Casual Friday calls for soft chambray and denim. These gray skinny jeans fit great and are oh so comfortable with just the right amount of stretch to keep their shape.

Just add a quilted gingham vest for instant warmth and style! This one isn’t too bulky.

One of my main motivations behind GYPO is to make style easier, So naturally, when a few of you reached out lately to ask me to make your back to school shopping easier, I was more than happy to oblige.

Today I’m teaming up with one of my personal favorite stores J. Crew Factory to bring you 8 mix and match back to school outfits for girls created from just 12 pieces! I’m totally a #factorygirl in every sense. It’s one of the few places where the whole family can walk in and get on-trend pieces and great classic items that are high quality and affordable. My two daughters helped put these outfits together and were quite honestly a little jealous that they no longer fit into girls’ sizes!

These outfits easily transition from the playground to birthday parties and everything in between. Don’t worry – I haven’t forgotten about your little guys!
