Spice Up Your Workplace Wardrobe – For Men and Women

Spice Up Your Workplace Wardrobe – For Men and Women

Every workplace is different from all the others, and its dress code is similar to no other. Still, there are clever ways how you can still reflect your unique personal fashion style while complying with those fashion parameters of your company. What you should do is keep your personality and incorporate into your office outfits but you should simultaneously maintain the overall outfit professional and polished. This will boost your self-confidence and creativity. If you start your working day by choosing the hues, fabrics and patterns you will wake up earlier and increase the creativity. Still, don’t overdo it. By following our simple tips how to dress to gain even more success, you will be the fashion icon of your office in no time.

1.  Embrace essential items

Instead of splurging on unique fashionista items, you should invest in some great quality basics. Both guys and girls should benefit from buying a black blazer which will look amazing on you. If you are having a hard time finding the perfectly fitting one, you should have one tailored just for you. Staple up on white shirts and you will have the perfect basis for any outfit you want to pull out.

2.  Be careful with the trends

No matter how much you love your new neon yellow wedges, they simply do not fit the corporate setting you work in. Neither colleagues nor clients will take you seriously if you show up wearing the items which are not office-friendly. You can keep your outfits a bit toned down during the working hours and have a couple of staples near your desk which will spice up everything, so you will waste no time going from smart for work to cool for the night out. Still, there are a couple of things which will make your outfits cool instantly. Fashionable Carrera sunglasses are always on the mark and you will become chic the moment you put them on.

3.  Don’t overdo the accessories

Accessories can make or break your day. The basic rule to follow is – don’t overdo it. Wearing a lot of boho bracelets with a statement necklace may seem like an excellent idea for a cup of coffee with friends but not for your office. The same is true when it comes to men, just keep it simple with a pop of accessories and you’ll be the star of the day. Girls should opt for a buttoned up blouses which seem really elegant and just add a statement necklace above. Guys are lucky to have the incredibly convenient trend of wearing rucksacks where you can put your belongings. Those perfectly match even the most elegant combinations. An infinity scarf is an excellent idea for both guys and girls. Wearing them around the office is a perfect glimpse of style around your neck!

4.  Colors are your friends, not enemies

Although the business world is not very much fond of vibrantly colored clothes, there’s still something you could do to add a pop of color into your business life. Even though black, white, gray and navy are the most prominent colors in most of the offices, you should not limit your choice just to those. Women could look equally stylish wearing a dusty rose dress instead of a white one, whereas guys can look picture-perfect if they opt for a sage green hue of their sweater.

Your workplace wardrobe doesn’t have to be dull. You just need to go for quick fixes which will spice up your entire outfits. From statement jewelry to a pop of color, the choice is versatile. It’s only your choice how you wish to reflect your own personality via clothes.

Glam Up Your Closet: 8 Ideas to Make it Great

Glam Up Your Closet: 8 Ideas to Make it Great

By Sara Pedersen

Before a fashion challenge or shopping for a new seasonal wardrobe, it’s important to sort and purge closets and drawers, removing unnecessary items. But once that process is complete, it’s time to glam up the closet! Keep reading to learn some “high and low” options for bringing some style to your clothing storage spaces. From adding inexpensive drawer liners and swapping out hangers, to adding a glam light fixture and painting an accent wall, there are many things that can be done to put the icing on the cake!

LOW TIME & FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
Add drawer liners. My favorites are the lightly scented ones from Crabtree & Evelyn but many other brands are available on Amazon. If you like the look of pretty drawers without the scent, try contact paper, leftover wallpaper, or gift wrap. (If you go with gift wrap, make sure it’s the sturdy kind.) Measure, cut, and tack down with a few dots of glue or double-stick tape. Or add a scented sachet of lavender, citrus, or cedar to your drawers or closet. Available for purchase on Amazon or at home good stores, or make your own with yummy essential oils available at your natural foods store.

Swap out your hangers. This means getting rid of all of your dry-cleaner’s wire ones! They get tangled and are not sturdy enough. Out they go. Replace with one or two standard types. Try white plastic tube, velvet “huggable,” sturdy wooden, metal pants, or whatever suits your fancy. And for goodness sake, face them all the same direction!

Organize your jewelry. There are many options to store your jewelry inside a top drawer in divided boxes, on top of a dresser on a stand, or hanging on a wall. Are you a displayer or a tuck-away gal? Is out-of-sight also out-of-mind? Perhaps you could store away things you don’t use often, and display or keep out the pieces that you wear frequently or want to remember to wear!

Add drawer organizers. There are many to be found at The Container Store in every shape and size. They will allow you to divide and contain underthings or keep flimsy camisoles and t-shirts in line. Or you can make your own using old shoeboxes or cardboard.

MEDIUM TIME & FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

Paint the closet walls. Yes, this could be an undertaking. But you’re taking everything out of the closet anyways, so now is the time to do it! Give it a clean, fresh coat of light-colored paint that makes you smile. This reflects the light and gives you a solid neutral background to view your clothing against. Or go a step further and wallpaper the closet, or just one accent wall for a huge impact.

Add a new light fixture. This is especially important if you have no (or poor) lighting in your closet. If you have a walk-in closet, consider the impact of a fabulous chandelier in this space. Wow! It doesn’t have to be expensive. Even Ikea has some great ones for less than $100.

Add some artwork. Search art.com for a piece of artwork that will make you smile every day. Or simply enlarge a favorite family photo and pop it in a pre-matted frame. If you don’t have any wall space in your closet (those without walk-ins), perhaps you could frame a small photo that makes you happy, and place it on a shelf.

HIGH TIME & FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

Install a new closet system. This can be done on a budget! Sometimes it’s as simple as moving up a single-hanging rod a bit higher and then adding another below it. If it’s time for an entire closet system, check out Home Depot or Lowe’s. Bring measurements and they can help design your perfect closet. If you’re handy, you can install it yourself, or hire a handyman to do it for you. If you want something fabulous, check out the elfa® line from The Container Store. It is modular, super-sturdy, attractive and well worth the investment.

Five Fashion Mistakes That Make You Look Older

Five Fashion Mistakes That Make You Look Older

by Beth Roy

The term “age appropriate” has become a standard line when talking about how to dress, how to wear our hair, and even the polish we pick for our toes. In fact, I bet if I asked you to list the dressing “don’ts” of women over say 40-ish, you’d have a pretty easy time:

  • Too much cleavage
  • Jeans with too low a rise, exposing even more cleavage (ouch)
  • Wearing legging as pants (and not to work out)…..with a top that doesn’t cover the crotchal region
  • Wearing stilettos with jeans and a plunging neckline…too much vavoom is never a good thing and looks like you’re trying too hard.
  • Donning a crop top, any kind of crop top
  • Showing VPL’s (visible panty lines)
  • Wearing a ponytail, every day, all day (guilty here)

Through my business, B.Styled Personal Shopping & Wardrobe Consulting,  the issue I encounter more often is the opposite one. I find the mistake women tend to make is dressing too old rather than too young,  and it is so gratifying to help women find a personal style that is just right for them.

The reasons many women spiral into the rut of dressing beyond their years vary. The short list includes:

  • weight changes
  • what they define as“comfortable”
  • foot issues
  • a lack of time and/or interest in keeping up with what is current
  • letting themselves fall to the bottom of their priority list.

Many women tell me they are at a loss as to where to shop and what to shop for, citing feelings of overwhelm and lack of self-confidence. Dressing room depression is real and a very common issue. My goal is to help my client find that sweet spot – a look that is comfortable and easy, while helping her look and feel her absolute best, no matter her age.

Here is my list of the top 5 fashion mistakes that can make us look older and how to easily fix them:

  1. Wearing black, black, and more black: Raise your hand if you have a closet full of black clothing and accessories and have the irresistible urge to always “buy it in black”. There’s no doubt that black has always been the wonder drug when it comes to looking slim and sophisticated. But let’s face it ladies, as we age, our skin tone tends to go paler, so we need to brighten ourselves up a bit. Go ahead and wear black, but not so close to the face. Add scarves, jewelry, colorful tops and jackets to accent your black foundation and provide a needed palette pick-me-up. Not only will this allow you to show your personality, it will take years off your looks and improve the image you are projecting.
  1. Over draping: Weight gain and weight “redistribution” is probably the #1 issue I hear from clients as a reason for getting into dressing ruts. They want to cover up and hide the added pounds, but adding more volume with clothing is not the way to go. If you are draping to hide a fuller-on-the top or fuller-in-the-middle proportion you are only creating a more obvious imbalance, making you appear even larger on the top and smaller on the bottom. Instead, opt for something that follows your curves, not hides them. This is where a great fitting, tailored, (not stuffy) jacket is your secret weapon. Don’t believe me? Let me help you find one and you’ll see for yourself;)

  1. Shoes that weigh more than you do: I am the (former) owner of clunky clogs. Yes, they are comfortable. Yes, they are great for nurses and new moms and working in the garden. No, they don’t look good. If you insist on wearing them, please stick to long wide leg jeans or long boot cut yoga pants. Anything else is just wrong. Find a cute flat or pair of comfortable, low heeled booties instead.  I will get hate mail for this one I know, but I’m standing firm. Sorry, I speak the truth.

  1. Outdated eye glasses: Glasses are an accessory – and an area to have fun and show your personality. Great glasses are the most functional and important accessory you will own…and if you don’t need them yet, trust me the day will come. They are also a focal point, so you want to make sure that you pick a pair that doesn’t age you. You want to avoid boring and outdated frames and frames that droop downward.

Go to a reputable optometrist with professionals who can help you find the best pair for you.. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing eye wear:

  • Try to add warmth and softness to your face. Translucent colors are often better than hard metals.
  • Add color: one of the easiest ways to add a bit of hipness to your style.
  • After 40 you want things to go up not down, so choose frames that are horizontal and have a slight tilt at the outer edges. You will want the eye to be drawn upward!
  • Get glasses that suit your face shape.

  1. The sisters need a new bra: Eight out of ten women are wearing the wrong size bra. Seriously, would you walk around in the wrong size shoes? This is an an easy fix to make you look ten pounds lighter and ten years younger. A well-fitted bra will also help you have better posture, a perkier looking chest – and you will just look better in all your clothes. Clients who have had their first professional bra fitting swear by it as a real game changer.

So, there you have it…conquer these 5 issues and take 10 years off your look;)  Seriously, growing older is a blessing and I know I wouldn’t want to go back in time (well maybe to college…but just for a weekend or two). You deserve to look and feel your absolute best at every stage of life, so make yourself a priority, and rock your best personal style. I’m here to help!
