The first day of spring is still a few weeks away but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a jump on the season with some fun spring accessory trends. These trends are sure to lift you out of the winter doldrums and bring a smile to your face. Some of the trends listed below are breathing fresh life into the spring season while others are a carry-over from seasons past. So don’t throw them by the wayside yet as they are still having their moment. However, remember the rules don’t apply if it’s a classic and something you love that makes you feel fabulous! Then it should absolutely occupy guilt-free real estate in your closet or drawer.
1. Colored gemstones
This spring is all about bold colors and your gemstones are no different. Bright, colorful gemstones will be seen everywhere and they are the perfect way to add fun pops of color to your spring wardrobe.
Peals are truly a classic but for the past few seasons, they’ve truly been having their moment. They can be seen in everything from your favorite necklace, earrings, hair accessories, and even embellishments on handbags and tops. Pearls are not just reserved for a fancy night out or tea time, but for anytime!
This is something new we’re seeing this year, colorful handbag straps also called a guitar strap. Alison rocked this trend in the blog, How to Wear Veja Sneakers with Closet Staples showing some of its versatility. This style of strap is found on many different handbag silhouettes so you’re sure to find one you like. Plus, since they are most likely clipped on, you can interchange different straps creating many different looks. Pair this handbag with your favorite jeans or a cute spring dress.
This is a trend that’s been in and out for the past few seasons. We tend to see it more in the spring and summer months as a cute way to keep our hair up and out of our faces. The headscarves also double as protection from the sun. Whether skinny or thick, you can’t go wrong with a headband this spring.
Layered necklaces have been on trend but this spring it’s a little more specific. Two-layered necklaces will be seen everywhere and in a multitude of ways, dainty and minimalistic as well as bold and chunky. The best part of this trend is that you probably already have what you need in your jewelry box. Don’t be afraid to mix metals too.
Hoops are a classic but we’re seeing bigger, bolder, and chunkier hoops this spring. Bigger style hoops that almost graze your shoulders are making a comeback.
When we talked about this trend last year we weren’t sure how long it was going to be sticking around, but the chunky chain links and the paperclip links are showing they have some staying power. They will continue to be seen everywhere this spring and heading into summer. If you haven’t tried this trend yet, it’s not too late to add it to your wardrobe arsenal.
The sunglasses trend shape of choice this spring is the cat-eye. They look great on oval face shapes but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give them a try. They come in a variety of styles from a boxier cat-eye as well as something more rounded.
Pantone dropped its 2022 color of the year so get ready to see it everywhere! It’s called Very Peri. This periwinkle color has blue qualities with violet-red undertones. While this is a gorgeous color that will integrate well into the coming seasons, it may not be everyone’s first choice. Whatever side of the fence you’re sitting on, there are some easy ways you can incorporate Very Peri into your outfits from shirts and sweaters to fun accessories and winter wear. Below are some items inspired by this year’s Pantone color of the year. What’s your favorite way to add color to your look?
At GYPO we’re all about closet staples. They are the foundation of any outfit – classic, simple pieces that are easily interchangeable and pair well with any trend. They are the white tee, the dark wash jeans, the taupe boots. These are our go-to items and once we’ve established this foundation it makes getting ready that much easier. However a great closet is not something we can rush to create, it’s something we curate. We take our time and build it with pieces we love and that we’ll wear. Even once you’ve achieved this level of closet curation, there are always going to be items you may want to change whether that’s adding an investment piece or something that just needs updating. Below are some great pieces to easily refresh your winter basics and the best part is, they are all on sale at Nordstrom!
Baby, it’s cold outside and that means it’s time to break out the winter coats from the back of the closet. As you’re going through your collection of coats I’m sure you, like many other Pretties, are wondering what coats deserve to stay and what coats should no longer take up precious closet space. For some, a coat is more than a fashion statement, it’s winter essential to keep you from freezing to death, literally. While for others it’s something you throw on to keep the chill away. No matter what category you fall into, there’s no reason why you can’t have it all.
As we’ve seen over the past few years trends have come and gone and come back again. But we must not forget the classics. They never go out of style but every so often have their moment in the spotlight. In short, you can never go wrong with a classic. Below I’m going to shed some light on a few winter coat trends as well as some classics that you can feel confident keeping in your closet year after year. Keep in mind many of these trends overlap and can turn a classic into a trend and vice versa. At the end of the day, I always say, if you love the way it looks and makes you feel then it’s a keeper.
Tip: You can’t go wrong choosing any of the below coats, classic or trend, in a bright color. This winter is full of vibrant color choices and it’s a great way to add a pop of color to any outfit!
1. Leather
If you’ve been hanging around GYPO or Outfit Formulas® for the past month then you know leather is very on-trend this winter. So why is this both a classic and a trend? Well, trench coats are also popular this winter but you won’t get as much longevity out of a leather trench coat as you would say a leather moto jacket.
This jacket screams cozy! Even though the actual term shearling refers to a lambskin and wool coat, the synthetic version is called sherpa. However the two names are pretty interchangeable, it would just be a faux shearling unless you are looking for the real thing. This type of jacket is like wrapping yourself in a big hug. It comes in many different forms as well. Some have only shearling accents around the cuffs or collars, while some have it on the inside of the jacket as well as out. Don’t forget the sherpa-lined denim and corduroy jackets too!
This is a tricky coat because oversized puffers are on-trend but do we really want to look like a marshmallow? It’s a fine balance between having the puffed look but in a more fitted and figure-flattering way. This is a perfect example of taking a trend and making it work for you. There are tons of jackets out there that follow the puff trend but won’t overwhelm you. With the new technology and materials available, jackets don’t need to be thick to be warm. Take the Patagonia Women’s Nano Puff® Jacket, while this is a puffer jacket, it’s not as bulky. I would totally consider this an investment piece but it’s one that will keep you warm and be current year after year.
Printed jackets are all the rage this winter. The most popular prints are plaid and leopard. Keep in mind that any printed jacket can cross over multiple coat categories such as a plaid puffer or a leopard faux fur. This is an item I wouldn’t break the bank over unless it’s a classic silhouette like a plaid peacoat. Even if it’s not ‘on-trend’ you won’t look out of style wearing it.
Love ’em or hate ’em the shirt jacket or the ‘shacket’ is the take-off trend of the winter. The shacket is a button-down shirt (sometimes with snaps instead of buttons) but way thicker than your typical button-down. This is perfect for the Pretties who don’t live in the extremely cold temps but still need that top layer. And for those who do need the extra warmth, a shacket makes the perfect mid-layer.
If you are in the market for something a bit more neutral then the camel color coat is just what you’re looking for. Camel can be seen in all the coat trends mentioned here and if you want something timeless, you can’t go wrong with a camel color peacoat or trench.
It’s easy to get a faux fur jacket mixed up with a shearling jacket. It goes like this, all shearling jackets are fur, but not all fur is shearling. If that doesn’t help, typically shearling or sherpa is a lower pile while fur is typically fuller. If you don’t want to go for the all-over faux fur look, try a coat that has fur trim around the collar for added texture and detail.
I don’t know about you but when I think of a trench coat I think of springtime, a lightweight fabric that will help keep the April showers away. But after doing some more digging on this trend, it is indeed perfect for winter. The main defining factor of a trench coat is the length, which usually hits around the knees. The winter trench coat is also known as a topper coat and can come in many different forms, wool, like a peacoat, leather, as I mentioned above, or printed.
This coat is exactly what you would think it to be, quilted, however, it does have a modern twist. I didn’t think I would like this trend but after seeing a few examples it’s beginning to grow on me. It also comes in different lengths and thicknesses meaning you’re sure to find one that fits your climate.
This last trend will definitely push one outside their comfort zone but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least include it and let you decide for yourself. It’s the two-tone coat. In its most basic form, this coat looks like it’s two different coats sewed together right down the middle. The two-tone coat can be monochromatic or straight-up contrast. This is definitely one of those polarizing trends where you either love it or hate it and that’s okay.
Ponchos and capes are making a huge comeback this winter. So if you have any laying in your closet now is the time to break them out! They are super easy to throw on and finish off any outfit. If it’s feeling too full and voluminous, add a belt to help balance out your proportions.
Your turn! What winter coat trend is your favorite?

I’ve been participating in the GYPO Style Challenges for three years now and I’ve loved it. I’ve always loved clothes, but I didn’t know how to put outfits together. My closet is now full of mix-and-match outfits, I have learned how to dress myself, and there is no more stress in figuring out to wear. The private FB group is full of wonderful ladies that build each other up. It’s so fun and is seriously the best group on FB.

Get Your Pretty On has changed my life, seriously. I have always chased what is trendy but found from season to season, that things go out of style and I was wasting money on items that I would only end up wearing a few times. GYPO has enabled me to simplify my closet, helps me make smarter purchasing decisions, and I feel so put together and confident using the outfit formulas that are provided. This program is a GAME CHANGER. I've been following GYPO for a few years now and my only regret is not jumping on board sooner.

Great community of ladies, helping each other look stylish, without breaking the bank, and using much of what you already own.

GYPO challenges have been one of the best things I have done! It had taught me so much more than just creating a closet of clothes that I love but also to have confidence in myself, how to pick and choose colors that work for me instead of against, and had given a wonderful community of Pretties who are so special.
