Easy Outfits | Early Fall Casual + Chic

Easy Outfits | Early Fall Casual + Chic

Today’s easy outfit comes to you by popular demand.  I originally used this outfit to create a graphic for my Budgeting for Clothing post on Monday.  But I got almost as many questions about the pieces of the outfit as I did comments on the post.  So today I’m giving you guys all the deets.

It may still be too hot to wear it in your neck of the woods but be sure to pin it for later.  It’s a great casual chic outfit to wear in early fall and will transition easily with the addition of your favorite fall scarf for cooler days.

Clockwise from top left:

1.  Tortoise Stud Earrings – Aren’t these awesome?  The color is perfect for all of your fall outfits.

2.  Lightweight Crewneck Sweater – Lightweight crewnecks are perfect with skinny jeans, ankle pants and even skirts.  Check out this option and this one in lots of  great colors.

3.  Dark Wash Skinny Jeans – Every woman needs a great fitting pair.  These are my all-time favorite.

4.  Color Block Flats – These do doubly duty with tones of beige and black.

5.  Leopard Belt – Use it to cinch cardigans and sweaters at the waist or wear it with pants or jeans.

6.  Stila “Kitten” Eyeshadow – This iconic color is always in style.

All of the pieces in this outfit are also on my Work Wear Challenge shopping list that was released this morning.  Late registration for the challenge is now open.  If you’d like to see more ways to mix and match these pieces and get your shopping list immediately, sign up HERE.

Have a great weekend pretties!

I Feel Pretty | In Between

I Feel Pretty | In Between

I can hardly believe it, but today is our last installment in the simple summer series.  Since summer will soon be over, I decided this would be the perfect time to share my version of “in between” simple transitional style.

Natalia @ Ma Nouvelle Mode // Elle at Elle Sees // Cyndi at Walking in Grace // Alison at Get Your Pretty On // Jen at Yummy, Healthy, Easy

As the seasons start to change, sometimes an outfit has to do double duty in the course of a day. Especially in Texas where the weather can be pretty bi-polar!  Days usually start off really warm but may end up feeling more fall-like before they’re over.

In late summer, my typical summer uniform of shorts, a tank top and flip flops transitions slightly to cuffed jeans, a tank top and flip flops.  This is such an easy outfit to wear for just about anything, dropping the kids off at school, running errands or even a casual lunch with friends.

But during the “in between” sometimes (if we’re lucky) there’s a nip in the air.  All this outfit needs for a quick transition is a stylish and comfy sweatshirt like this one from ILY Couture.  Presto change-o!

My friend Kim is just getting her start as a Stella & Dot stylist so I’m hosting my first ever virtual trunk show!  I’m completely smitten with their new engravables and charms collection.  Here’s how I’ve been layering my new personalized bar necklace.  I’m not exaggerating when I say that I wear this necklace every single day.  It goes with everything. sweatshirt-necklaces [Stella & Dot Engravable Bar Necklace]

Simple necklaces work best for my everyday style but I also love this tassel necklace for fall.  It will be really pretty with a simple jewel toned blouse. gold-base [Beaded Tassel Rosary Necklace]

I’m picturing it with something like this.

I Feel Pretty | in Jeans and a Blazer for Work

I Feel Pretty | in Jeans and a Blazer for Work

The Work Wear Challenge opened on Monday so I thought it would be fun to revisit one of my favorite ways to dress up jeans to make them office appropriate.  Colored denim can work great for a business casual office environment.  The key is to pair it with sophisticated separates like a white button down and blazer.  Outfits like this make me *almost* wish I worked in an office again!

If heels aren’t your cup of tea, swap them out for a pair of ladylike sling back flats, like these.

A look like this would work just as great with your favorite refined dark wash skinny jeans.  This pair would look great with a bright blazer like the one below.

[Classic Dark Wash Skinny Jean]

This radiant orchid blazer is the perfect partner for those dark wash skinny jeans and it’s ON SALE.

Finish the look off with a pretty statement necklace in complementary colors to tie the outfit together.

Ask Alison | Four Cool Ways to Accessorize When it’s Hot

Ask Alison | Four Cool Ways to Accessorize When it’s Hot

Today’s Ask Alison question comes from Ashley at My Food & Fitness Diaries.

Do you have any tips on accessorizing for the summer? Scarves instantly make it easier for me in the fall/winter months, but I’d love some cute accessory ideas for the summer. – Ashley

Ashley, I have this same problem because scarves are my go-to any other time of the year.  But scarves in Texas in the summer?

Only if spontaneous combustion appeals to you.  🙂

This is the time of the year where I pare down my accessories to keep things as simple as possible.  Who wants to pile on the arm candy or wear heavy statement necklaces on a 100 degree day?  I don’t even wear a watch in the dog days of summer.

Here are  four ways to beat the heat and still add some pizazz to your summer outfits.

1.  Hair Accessories

Hair wraps and head bands are two of my favorite ways to add a little interest to a summer outfit.  Since I usually wear my hair up on hot days, it just makes sense to add some kind of fun statement making accessory.  For Four Super Simple Summer Hairstyles, check out this post.

[Gold Braided Hair Wrap]

[Polka Dot Hair Wrap]

2. Embellished Sandals

Footwear as an accessory?  Yes!  Especially when it’s a cute embellished sandal that kicks up your outfit a notch.  Go with something attention getting like this chunky braided rope sandal.

[Gold Braided Sandals]

[Sam Edelman ‘Gigi’]

3.  Statement Earrings

Earrings are a great way to keep your cool while amp-ing up your style.  Don’t be afraid to go big and bold for summer.

[Kendra Scott ‘Elle’ in Chalcedony]

[Blue Cluster Drop Earrings]

4.  Long Necklaces

The key with summer accessories is to make as little contact with your skin as possible.  For this very reason, long pendant necklaces take the place of statement necklaces as my summer go-to.  They look great with simple tank tops and t-shirts.

[Kendra Scott ‘Rayne’ in White Pearl]

It’s Your Turn:  What’s your favorite way to beat the heat and still look cute for summer?  Do you have a question you’d like to see answered in a future Ask Alison?  Tell me in the comments!
