I Feel Pretty | Mother/Daughter Sneakers

Sneakers BothFirst off, let me say thank you all for inspiring this fun monthly mother/daughter style series.  It’s a really cool way for Aubrey and me to bond over fashion.  No sooner do we do one until Aubrey is asking me what the next month’s theme will be!  We both love being able to connect this way and share our style with you.

Today’s styling idea comes courtesy of the Spring Style Challenge participants.  A question that kept coming up in the Facebook group is whether or not sneakers were appropriate for moms of a, umm, certain age and if so, how to pair them up.

To that the answer is a resounding YES!  Wear those sneakers!  They’re just about the perfect kind of footwear – comfy, cute and casual.  If you’re worried that you’ll look like your teenage daughter (or someone else’s), don’t fret.  Aubrey and I both wear them on a regular basis.  Today we’re showing you our favorite ways to pair them up with stripes and colored denim.

If you want a great pair of no-show socks, we love these.  They don’t slide down and are thicker than most sock liners.

I Feel Pretty | Texan

I Feel Pretty | Texan

For this month’s Mother/Daughter Style post, Cavender’s outfitted the girls and me with some western wear.  Yee haw!  If you don’t know Cavender’s then you don’t know western wear.  They are a family-owned retailer started in 1957 and are synonymous with the well-dressed Texan.

Even though I’ve lived in Texas for the past (almost) eighteen years, I was raised in Pennsylvania.  Western wear was all new to me when I moved here.  At my first job out of college, I got invited to go country line dancing (out of body experience) and then to my first western-themed charity event.  The tight jeans, cowboy boots and western shirts were like something out of a movie!

Fast forward to today and I’m totally comfortable rocking my own pair of cowgirl boots.  I love how Cavender’s offers modern western wear, like the skirts and jeans we’re wearing in today’s post, along with more traditional items.

The girls and I were easily able to find cute outfits with a fun bit of western flair.

I Feel Pretty | Mother + Daughter Style

I Feel Pretty | Mother + Daughter Style

Aubrey and I are back with the Mother + Daughter Style Series for March.  This month we’re thinking spring (even if it doesn’t feel like it) and styling a transitional piece that will carry us between the two seasons.   Pieces like this are a necessity when you’ve had temperature fluctuations like we’ve had lately.  The temperature dropped more than 70 degrees in a four day time span last weekend – from 84 to 12!  Crazy Texas weather…

For this month’s style challenge, we styled the Maddie top in orange from Kiki La’Rue.  This is THE perfect transitional wardrobe item. It’s a super soft, drapey top that’s flattering for every figure and comes in a variety of colors.  It also elegantly spans the generation gap between mother and daughter.

On Friday, be sure to check out Susan’s post at Charming Lucy to see how she and her daughter styled this same great top in the stone color.

SPRING TRANSITIONAL STYLE | MADDIE TOP TWO WAYS

Maddie Top CollageI chose the spring styling of the top by pairing it up with boyfriend jeans, The Conversation Piece necklace from Kiki La’Rue and nude patent cork wedges.  This is an actual outfit that I wore to church when the weather was spring-like last weekend.

Aubrey went with more of a winter look by pairing it up with dark wash skinny jeans, a floral scarf and her combat boots.

I Feel Pretty | Young at Heart

I Feel Pretty | Young at Heart

I really appreciated all of your comments about age appropriate fashion on last week’s mother/daughter style post. Apparently there are a lot of us that struggle with finding the right balance between looking trendy and feeling comfortable walking out the door wearing a trend.  Especially those of us with teens who don’t want to embarrass ourselves or them!

Thanks to Sheaffer’s awesome idea (and many of you agreed, because let’s face it, she’s brilliant!), I’ve decided to make this a regular monthly feature.  Once a month, my 15 year-old daughter Aubrey and I will be showing you two age-appropriate ways that we’re styling the same piece of clothing.  One way for a teen and one way for a mom that’s, well, let’s just say young at heart.  🙂

Since it’s February, the month of love, we decided to style this graphic sweater.

GRAPHIC SWEATER | MOTHER + DAUGHTER STYLE

When I first saw this piece, I honestly didn’t think I could pull it off and am still not 100% sure if I did. It was fun to create an outfit around it, it’s just not something I would probably reach for to wear in my everyday life.

We both picked leopard prints to pair it with, which I found interesting.  Like mother, like daughter!

Love Sweater Collage FullOn Aubrey:

Aubrey went with a cozy, casual look with leopard print leggings, a long layering tank and her Ugg’s.  This outfit is SO her!

Aubrey Love Sweater Full[Sweater:  c/o Persunmall/Leggings:  c/o Persunmall/Boots:  UGG/Tank:  Forever 21/Bracelet:  c/o Ettika]

On Alison:

The sweater is a little on the short side so I started off with a long layering tank too.  The blush jeans worked really well with the rest of the neutrals and kind of give it more of a Valentine’s Day feel.  I felt like it needed something more so the leopard scarf was added as a finishing touch.

Alison Love Sweater HalfYes, I’m still crazy about my blush jeans I bought last fall.  I’ve worn them all winter and will continue to through the spring.  If you are still considering a pair, they’re 60% off on final sale.

[Moto Ankle Zip Jean]

I love them paired up with my taupe suede boots.  This pair is very similar to mine and on sale for 30% off.  The taupe/gray color goes with everything.

Since we’re styling other members of the family on the blog now, here’s a little kitty couture.

Kitty in a SweaterYes, she hated every second of this!  🙂
